Rumor: Apple to announce new iPhone and iPad mini on September 12th

From all that we know of the iphone 5, I imagine it won't be met with the same enthusiasm as previous iterations. Won't stop it from selling like crazy of course. But with just about every carrier pushing the S3 as agressively as they are, I imagine buyers will put a little more thought into their next phone purchase.

The 4S looked identical other than a questionable voice driven thing and a dual core CPU which normal people don't care about. At least this one is a bit bigger

Why would you want an iPad mini? I carry my iPad in my backpack, but wouldn't take it with me everywhere. iPad mini could go with you more easily. Still a much better browsing experience than a smartphone due to screen size. More affordable so you'll get more kids having them on Christmas lists

I'd be really tempted by the iPad Mini, the iPad is just too big for me. I'd rather use a Macbook Air for real computing or an iPhone for bathroom/bed/in front of TV use

iPad Mini = biggest tech toy this Christmas

I can't even begin to fathom how crazy it will be. 400/500 is "cheap" for a computer like the iPad but it still out of that impulse buy range and especially gift range. $299 and lower? That's a whole new game.

Forget jacks. Everything should be wireless.

Also works with calls and Siri!

Haven't really been following iPhone 5 news, but looking forward to its unveiling. Is there anything crazy being rumoured as the 'one more thing' or is this just going to be the bigger screen/faster phone song and dance?
I bet
32-pin devices will be coined 'legacy devices' by Apple.

but that's not just standard bluetooth, that has it's own special codec, transmitter and receiver, which would need to be incorporated into a device for it to be compatible...

*shrug* so what? Mac OS X already supports aptX as do mobile devices like the Motorola Razr, HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. Bluetooth was designed to be extended:
A2DP is designed to transfer a uni-directional 2-channel stereo audio stream, like music from an MP3 player, to a headset or car radio.[1] This profile relies on AVDTP and GAVDP. It includes mandatory support for the low-complexity SBC codec (not to be confused with Bluetooth's voice-signal codecs such as CVSDM), and supports optionally: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AAC, and ATRAC, and is extensible to support manufacturer-defined codecs, such as apt-X. Some Bluetooth stacks enforce the SCMS-T digital rights management (DRM) scheme. In these cases, it is impossible to connect certain A2DP headphones for high quality audio.

Besides, Apple is no stranger to skipping over interoperable solutions and creating proprietary shit for wireless streaming as Airplay demonstrates. At this point there should be no more excuses. This tiny Veer dropped the headphone jack (there is an adapter for those who demand it) and supports wireless syncing and wireless charging

Why can't an iPhone best that?

It would be awesome if the iPad mini was $200 like the nexus 7 but thsys dreaming. I can't wait for the new iPhone. I need to get rid of my slow iPhone 4.

Didn't the ipod Mini (and subsequently Nano) vastly outsell the iPod Classic (as it is now known)? It's obvious that the same thing will happen with iPad mini vs iPad Classic.

I think the lineup will look like this:

$299 iPad mini 16GB
$399 iPad mini 32GB

Then of course the normal iPad line fills out the rest.

If Apple does approach the $199 barrier it will sport 8GB. Just not sure what the margin would be on that one though.

Well....I think we have another nail in the 4" iphone coffin. Seems the latest iOS 6 beta supports automatic scaling to 1136x640. Someone hacked the iPhone SDK simulator to run at that resolution and tested both the latest iOS 6 beta as well as iOS 5.1. The iOS 6 beta added a 5th row of icons while the 5.1 software simply stretched the 4 icon layout.

Ready to start seeing some legit iPad mini part leaks. My wallet is ready.

Might have to go with white. For some reason white on the smaller iPad looks fine to be but not on the bigger one. Not sure if white will make the smaller screen seem bigger or what.

Truth. You guys are right.

Cheaper than iPad 3.

Cheaper and smaller. 400/500 is a lot of money for people. iPad mini will easily outsell iPad 3

I bought my gf two apple products in the past and the only apple product I own is the Nano gen2 which was given as a gift . I never/don't had/have anything against apple; I've just always stuck with what I had, laptop (w MS) and smartphone (w adroid). But perhaps I will buy (and own) my first apple product with the ipad mini coming out. The Ipad2 that my parents own seem nice and all, but a smaller size may be more fitting to me. and of course.. the price of a reg ipad IS a little high for me

but bluetooth audio is inferior to wired!

Who cares? 90% of owners use stock earbuds and it works for them. And really how much do I care when I'm at the gym? It's just more convenient. But as Greyface points out Apple can make whatever proprietary stuff they want. Hell, they're a board member of the Bluetooth SIG so they have huge influence on Bluetooth specs in general.

Wireless audio, Wireless syncing, Wireless charging; all been done. Now where the fuck is my flying car?

If only. The ideal device needs no ports or openings. I should be about to throw it in a pool just because.

I really need the new iPhone. My current contract has ended and I'm just going month by month at the moment - will I be able to preorder this phone and pick it up on launch day? Or can you not preorder phones and I'll have to go queue? I recall three of my friends queueing on launch day for both the iPhone 4 and 4S. I really don't want to queue and be told they've sold out. I'm in the UK btw.

*Also, I see from the leaked mock up renders they've changed the charging slot. Damn, I guess I'm going to be throwing out 8+ Apple USB cables that I have lying around...

Because they don't need to be $199 to vastly outsell the Nexus 7 (or any other 7 inch tablet). I think 250 is more reasonable to expect.
Apple doesn't just do what's "good enough." They're going to try to embarrass Android tablets. It'll be $199. There's no point in trying to compete if they can't do it on price.

If Asus can hit $199, Apple can even more comfortably with their older tech, old screens, superior supply chain, and better inventory management.

1. You will be able to preorder.
2. There will be an adapter.

if they hit $199, it's world devastation time. Turn out the lights.

I guess it's possible, nobody thought they would hit $500 on the OG iPad either. We were all guessing $800-1000 back then.

There is a market for 7" tablets. The nexus 7 has been selling like hot cakes and such.

I have a 5.3" phone and was about to get an ipad3..may wait to see what the mini has.

It won't be wider. Looks like its the photo's perspective. The new phone is closer to the camera because it's taller.

MagSafe kind of thing would be cool. If only so you don't need to properly orient the connector each time.
