college subsidization has contributed to some of the inflating costs for college tho. If grants were exclusively for very low income but well performing students that would be fine but grants typically go to people that are already well off.
I don't think grants are the problem. I don't believe any federal college grants are even that much money. The problem is the system just expects people to have to take out loans to pay for it.
There is a bubble in college education costs. If the schools couldn't depend on everyone getting loans, they'd be force to streamline their operations, to get the real costs lower so that people could actually afford it.
I mean I don't know the exact statistic, but college tuition has risen much faster than inflation, and it doesn't seem like the quality has gone up to reflect the increase in price.
