Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

When I launched GW2 just now it said I'm using a graphics driver with known issues. Since when? I have the latest driver straight from the nvidia site (301.42 for my 580) :/

You should update to the 304 beta drivers, I've seen people say it has increased their GW2 performance by ~ 15-20 on avg. Not saying you need it but hey it can't hurt. See if that also gets rid of the issue?

With regards to the pre-purchase codes, it says we need to input the retail code within 5 days of launch, anybody happen to know if that would be the early access launch (25th) or the actual (28th)?

28th

Look at this awesomeness:

Just to confirm I got the same message and I'm using 301.42 on my 560ti.
I've played every single beta and stress tests and haven't had any problems so may just be a bug with the latest launcher.

Damn, I'm getting hyped. I first thought, that among Tera and Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2 would be my least played game, but look at what happened. I enjoyed, but quit, both of those games, at least for now. The 25th can't come early enough!

All you guys using the I like staring at a "woman ass, as I play" sound like a bunch of dirty pirate perverts.

Also stop looking at the ass of your character and look around you. I think this might be why our server sucked at WvW.

That last stress test worked out pretty grand for me. It was my first time actually ingame and it worked like a dream really. No lag or cuts or anything. But it presented this real problem, I was planning on going Guardian Asura but I played a little of Engineer catman and Thief treeperson and they were both hella fun. Now I just don't know who to be, it might come down to a dice roll on the day.

SHall we make a guess on how many pre-purchased copies they've sold?

Im guessing 150-200k. Might be off the charts as hell tho, as I am basing this on nothing.

They showed the millionth pre-purchase on video a few weeks ago as far as i recall, so you might be wrong there ;)

edit: No wait, it was Beta sign-ups. I'll still go with a million.

If they've sold one million copies already, well, thats fantastic! I really enjoy GW2 and would really want a strong community and server population. But that many copies seems a little bit too much at this point :P

Wouldn't suprise me if they sell 1,5-2 million the first week tho.

I wouldn't mind a stress test every day before release honestly :p

That being said, I'm refraining from leveling even if they're not wiping the characters. I'm just trying to explore the noob zones and work out the kinks of each class to make them effective.

Found a nice combo for the D/D Thief last test: Scorpion Wire to pull a mob to you, then Cloak and Dagger for stealth and Backstab for massive damage. Finish with Heartseeker! Add lemon to mix and shake well.

Any word on engine optimization pre release? I have been a little out of the loop but I heard that the beta was pretty demanding yet the marketing always talked about keeping the barrier to entry as low as possible.

Would love to hear that it now runs smooth and buttery on mid level hardware.

The stress test yesterday compared to a week ago ran better on my system. I'm sure this new patch weighing in at 400mb+ will have more optimization done.

I'm actually starting to get confident this launch will obliterate the mess that was Diablo 3.

Can't be hard, Arenanet don't have Blizzards arrogance and can't rely on millions of people who were going to buy Diablo if it was a tower defence game.

On BWE1 it ran like crap on my old-ish Phenom x4, 4gig Ram, HD6850, low detail
On BWE2 it ran way better but sluggish, on med detail
During the latest Stress tests standard PvE was almost constantly around 40 FPS (which feels pretty fluid to me), even in cities etc, with issues only when a huge lot of players are around at Bosses or WvW sieges. On Full detail except reflections/shadows on "high" instead of "ultra".

I'm very optimistic for start.

Sounds like a huge leap, nice.

In and after BWE3 i got smooth 60fps in every PvE map, can't tell if in sPvP or WvW decrease because i didn't participate in those events.

For example, in Lion Archs in the BWE1 and BWE2 i ran in the 30fps - 45fps, now i get steady 60fps. In the others maps i was getting the same fps with some 50fps+ in between.

I use everything max but Reflection in the middle option and Shadows in High. But the performance as improved tremendously.

I get some spikes on my laptop. Certain spell effects seem taxing. Like Mesmers. I can generally hover around 30s-high 40s in Lions Arc and DR and events with 10-15+ ppl play smoothly.

sPvP also runs fine. I can't expect to much of my thin 13 inch laptop. The game does look phenomenal though, so I wish I could crank up the settings. Stuff like shadows and such is not important, but the fluid animations, high quality character models and long draw distance is most def.

Requirements wise, it's not GW1. But I promise you - The opposite extremes in this game is crazy. Realistically you can't expect the game run as well once things goes crazy. 100 people in one area goiing crazy at the same time with those spell effects. It's going to tax everyone!

I wonder if my hyper-threading / turbo boost is kicking into gear on my machine. Laptop is supposed to turbo-boost 3.9 ghz (not quad core!) but ive never seen it go above 3,5 using the Intel turbo boost monitor. Could Hyper-threading play a role? it messes performance in some games!

I think GW2 deserves a beefy rig. watching the jumping puzzles I realize in my head that this game is making me want to explore in a way that only shadow of the colossus or skyrim can make me do. This game is so good.

I had everything on max and was getting around 80. Normally this would be ok but with the hardware i'm running it's a little disappointing.

So, you're also going to play on a rig like that ?

I don't feel alone anymore. :D

I hope toms hardware will do a guide on this game. its strange how having some sliders at high, very high or ultra doesnt tax the system performance at all!

personally i never want to lower my native resolution because some of the performance benefits you were supposed to get for lower resolution gets nulified because the gpu needs to re-scale windows resolution contra in-game resolution. so it means that you either have to lower your windows system resolution to make it not do that. But then some purists say that the its unbearable. I've not felt that. at home I have a 2560x1440 Dell 27 IPS display and I play at 1080 all the time without it looking at crap. even for having 8 ms response time, in shooters I feel nothing is wrong or looks weird.

But people act like its unbearable for games if you have more than 2 ms, or if you play outside your native resolution. Maybe I am just dense though. Haha.

Is it wrong to say the major focus by ArenaNet when it come sto GW2 is going to be the PvP? Does anyone think a purely non-PvP (I'm not that but the sake of the question lets go with this) would be happy with the game based on the PvE content you've played? Was never in the beta and only have my experiences with GW1 which was boring after a while even with the new expansions as it was just a constant dungeon/area crawl, one after another.

Yes. Someone who has no interest in the PvP aspect, will get their money worth. I feel confident in saying that.

And I do think it is wrong to say that PvP is the major focus point. The focus is just as big on the PvE. That much is certain. I would say it's evenly split between Dynamic Events, personal story, sPvP, WvW and Dungeos. There is something there for everyone I believe. Except EQ/WoW style raiders. They won't find that specific type of content here. There seems to have been put a lot of work into the open world style raid bosses. Nobody really knows how difficult they will be at the later stages of the game. Hopefully, some of them will be real difficult and repeatable.

Yup :)

I'll update on christmas or something ^^ It's really, really playable and feels nice, so I won't hurry.

- They added a Support option in the menu when you press Escape.
- They restructured how the Graphical settings are laid out and have a preset dropdown menu now.
- UI scaling works gain, at least going from normal to small works right now.
- Audio options got restructured as well.
- There's now a sound quality slider.
Hot damn, would really like to see that UI scaling in action. My getting-older-eyes and a 1440p screen have not gotten along well with the minimalist UI lately :(

jesus. are you running at 2560x1440 rez?
FYI at 1440p AA is completely unnecessary. I run at this res and had everything maxed and turned that off and saw no visual hit, yet gained another ~5-10 FPS.

By the way, if you're looking to upgrade to 1440p (it's fantastic) and want a cheaper route and are willing to take a chance on an import that has no warranty or support or OSD (in most cases), there's some great Korean imports you can get that use the same S-IPS panel that they put in Apple Cinema displays for less than half the cost:

Here's the one I have: http://www.overclock.net/t/1232496/crossover-27q-led-led-p-27m-led-2720mdp-gold-led-monitor-club

Hey, this is a bit of advertising, but since I'm excited we are in this game, in terms of technology, check this out.

I think those of you who haven't managed to play the game, are really gonna enjoy it :)

Isn't that the engine that's currently bugged and makes half the world disappear when you move your camera around ;)

Interesting because the only thing I remember is them using a modified engine from GW1.

You seem to consistently get bored with MMO style games, I doubt this will be much different for you after a while.
