Counter-Strike: Global Offensive official site is live (kinda), beta starting today

I'm liking this so far. It seems easier than past CS games, which is a definite plus for me. I was terrible at CSS. I can see why players of past CS games wouldn't like it.

The guns just seem to have a better feel.

I don't like how you can't see who exactly is talking unless you can see the player model with the mic icon over their head. It's weird there isn't a little icon with the talking players name appearing over the chat area.

After a couple hours playing the beta I am kind of liking it. I do have some complaints though.

-They need to get rid of the fog, or at least let me toggle it on/off in the options.
-The menus and option are way to cluttered and messy.
-It is hard to see where my bullets are going. It might be just me though.
-The buy menu is awful.
-No sprays.
-The recoil animations need to be more noticeable.
-Silencers
-Low res textures

Apart from that I think it is fun. I'm sure I will have more complaints the more I play though.

Uh do you have this set on low by accident? Fog? lol

I'm thrilled. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to have someone with a controller on my team getting annihilated 3 seconds into every round.

IIRC Portal 2 PS3 version had mouse and keyboard support. I see no reason why they couldn't do the same for the PS3 version of CS GO

Just Pre-ordered this on PS3 version of this. It'll be my first taste of Counter Strike. According to the PSN store , this game supports the Move and also Keyboard and Mouse. Going to get a keyboard & mouse just for this.

Heh, this game is definitely a lot less forgiving than Source. The playerbase might just suck by comparison at this point.

Played for a little bit over an hour and did alright considering I haven't played any type of CS in a long while. Overall, I'm enjoying it.

Running super slow. Fairly new to PC gaming, but have a great new PC that runs Witcher 2 on high (don't know if that means anything here lolol). Not sure what to adjust or am I just f-ed?

Awesome.
Really hoping it turns out well and the 360 community stays awhile.

Same here braj. Had a ton of fun on the old CS on the ogbox, hoping this one lives up to my expectations. I'll be playing regardless though as it's my only option at the moment.. my laptop overheats if I try to play even 1.6 on here.

Definitely enjoying CS:GO as are a lot of my friends. I think positional audio in CS 1.6 was very good and in CS:S it was very bad. I think CS:GO has good positional audio, much better than CS:S. I really like the feel of the game after my first night playing.

not a fan of what they did to a lot of the maps. I know some of the stuff, like on aztec and inferno, were useless, but it added character to the map that's gone now.

Also think that a lot of the character models are look similar on t and ct.

First impression: it feels very similar while also feeling different. Basically feels like its definitely going for the BF3/CoD vibe with the whole matches and server set up. Just being randomly placed and matches seem real short before the server changes.

Guns feel different at first, but certainly can be gotten used to, not too bad. Changes seem for the better, but not all of them. I don't really like that even with FF off, you still can shoot your teammates. This means that if I shoot someone and see blood, this doesn't mean that they are actually enemies. And if I get shot and feel myself bleeding, it doesn't mean theres an enemy shooting me.

Finally, I'm having trouble getting adjusted to the models. It's cool that they are different on each map, but I can't quickly tell from across the map who is who, and with the FF stuff, I find myself not shooting the right people and spraying the wrong people. I guess it'll just take some time to get used to.

As you can probably tell, I've just played casual so far, so I'll give the other modes a try.

Does anyone know if it'll go to a conventional server set up? So people can add their own servers... mods.. death match... climb maps... mini games, etc?

Quite enjoying this game so far. Nothing major that I can say against it. Its less forgiving then CSS which I like. Some of the new sounds are much better, much meaner. Still doesnt feel as good as CS1.6 but the tiny 1.6 community remaining I feel CS:GO will be the better game to play.

Won my first round with score of 10-2, was not expecting that. Especially since my total hours for CSS is 60 over all the years lol.

EDIT: First hour impressions update.
Good:
Gun sounds for most part are alot better
Less forgiving, spray and prey less effective.
Cant shoot as accurately when running.
Hit detection feels solid
Overall game feels solid
Molotovs are fun as fuck - common awper spots especially
Integrated gun mode etc
Apparently I kick ass

Bad:
No silencers - WTF
Hard to differentiate enemies and friendlies in dark areas and at a distance
Switching between weapons(Q) feels clunky
Auto match search puts me on US servers - 200+ ping
Locks up my system when using SLI

Lacks old school server browser

The Server Browser is under Community Servers.

I agree about the silencers, though they said it's still on their list of things to do, but other things have a higher priority.

Oh, thankyou. I did see it but from the description it didn't sound like what I was after so I didnt bother opening. Hopefully I can find AUS servers that way then lol.

Is there a quick way to mute people...I haven't heard so much garbage since playing on Xbox Live years ago lol

I got to play for about 40 minutes this morning. This is my first Counter-Strike game, and I'm really liking it so far. It has a great "pick up and play" quality to it. I just did a few matches of Arms Race.

I was able to hold my own pretty well; maintaining around a 1 KDR, so I was pleased. Definitely accidentally shot a few teammates, but realized my mistake before I killed them. I think it's probably a good thing that I wasn't wearing my headphones.

The Ghalil feels a bit underpowered, I think. I guess I'll have to try for more headshots with that one.

I've had the beta for quite a while, but I just played a proper game of Demolition yesterday on Sugarcane and wow, that map is fun. It really feels like you're in some kind of firefight and not just going around fragging people.

After so many recent years with iron sights and different kind of scopes it feels strange to play a game without that kind of stuff. I used to play CS 10+ years ago quite alot and while I have missed games without iron sight I honestly don't know what to think about the lack of it yet. I guess I have grown used to having iron sights and now am part of the problem.

On another note, where is the MP5? I know there used to be one back in the days, it was one of my favorite weapons when you couldn't afford ak47 or M4. The current SMGs doesn't interest me very much.

Edit: Also, I love that main menu music!

So I finally got around to trying it, and I was very positively surprised. Feels so much more like CS than what Source ever did. It's not a 1:1 copy, but that's not what I expected. Just barely touched the normal mode, spent most time in Arms Race to familiarize myself with the weapons. Seems like an unnecessary amount of weapons. Especially in the SMG/Pistol department. But if I end up using the same ~10 weapons over and over again this time as well...

Looking forward to getting friends to try it out. Isn't there supposed to be some sort of 5v5 match making as well? Could be awesome. Will try to write more and more detailed impression later, if I can be bothered/remember.

EDIT: Hardcore 1.6 player here btw, fucking hated the living shit out of Source.

As a casual player who hasn't played CSS in years and never really got into 1.6, my first 4 hours with this game were an absolute blast.

I'm more of a battlefield guy, and it's a real nice refreshing change of pace just having pure raw fast focused combat. Love the hybrid objective/gun master mode.

1.6 player here and this feels much better than source did to me. Too many weapons though, end up using the old familiars.

They need to give those grenade explosions some love. What the hell is up with that football sized dome explosion and it looks like an atom up close.
