Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Duh, just took a closer look at the races... Seems like the Human and Norn are the only ones that seem appealing, which says a lot since I never pick Human in a fantasy setting. Not digging the cute little puppies or the watered down Kingdoms of Amalur fae. Charr are alright, not for me but I approve of the design. Sigh...

Rats.

I played a mesmer for a bit today, just up to level 4 or so. I'm guessing the illusions become more useful later? I felt like I was killing things so fast that I barely had a chance to build up illusions. It also didn't seem clear when they die naturally. It felt like they either last a very short time, or die when your target dies or something.

Welcome to April for a lot of us.

True, true. I'm actually really glad I didn't give a fuck about GW2 during the beta weekends and press beta stuff. I used to, year(s) ago, but it kinda died down when I started to play DayZ this summer. Now though... Ugh :-/

Great looking character! I think I'm going to roll an Asuran, too, and I'm enamored with Guardian. Whatafreakin fun class. Had a level 19 in the first BWE and it was a blast with Greatsword. And, honestly, I've been dying to play as an Asuran with a big-ass sword since EotN, and my time has come (soon).

Thank you, and it's great. Running around as a midget with a huge sword, or a pointed stick. Supporting people in PVP is great, no one suspects the midget with a pointed stick.

Welcome to right after reading this bad boy.

When your target dies, they dissipate. And yes, things will not die very fast forever so you'll get to build them up more. I believe they also got a slight buff to survivability in this Stress Test as they were able to withstand some damage from a Quartermaster inside the inner walls of Crystal Desert's keep. Not sure about that, but that's how it seemed.

Also, people: Check out Mesmer's Focus-4 skill. They've added a secondary on it and it is sweet.

Is there a difference between secondary and chain skills? I noticed a torch skill had a secondary that seemed like you could switch between, although I didn't have any clue at the time and wondered why I was throwing fireballs instead of setting myself on fire. I didn't even realize weapon's skill 1 was a chain until after I had played bwe3. Does the chain restart if you use a skill before it cycles through or does it pause and finish when you come back to it?

Right now, illusions don't work great in PVE and especially in Dynamic Events. The zerg factor means things die before you get much use out of the illusions. This is because illusions are tied to the life of the target.

So if I want to order guildwars 2 now, where's the best place to buy it?

Think I should just buy from amazon to save on the taxes?

I'm also curious, will prob just spend the few extra bucks and get it on official site since I've heard other places no longer offering early access.

My poor guardian :(

I play a guardian but I have to agree with a lot of those changes. Guardians were so good they were almost broken. They're still good, but those changes bring them more in line.

I noticed I was still holding off 2 on 1's for extended periods of time in the last stress test so that's good enough for me.

hahaha i remember seeing this at the bookstore. so tell me how much does it say about taking heroes/henchmen on your adventures?

Thumbed through the walkthrough and it doesn't mention much. Says to move them when they're being pummeled by meteor shower. Mainly advises on what skills to bring and what the quests involve.

For chain skills, you have to perform them in sequence, and if you are interrupted in any way (or you perform a different skill) you have to start over. Chain skills are only found on the first skill of a weapon (but not all weapons have them).

Sequence skills (as the wiki calls them) allow you to be interrupted and still perform the second skill. These can be weapon, healing, elite, or utility skills, but never the first skill of a weapon. These have different rules for accessing the second skill (e.g. some skills require the first skill to hit an enemy before the second skill is available) but most have a time limit before you lose access to the second skill and it goes on cooldown.

With so many Dagger Eles running about - I feel like i'll be the only one with a staff. Once I got all 4 attunements fully unlocked it was fun as all get out juggling them and slapping down AOE for soft control, boons and conditions. It felt like I was building a multi-layered death cake working them on top of one another.

It seems to be quite unpopular among Eles for some reason.

lol stop being so superior.

Hey guys, i haven't really been keeping up with this thread but is there a particular US server most GAF folk are gravitating towards? I'm pretty much the only of my RL friends getting the game and id like some cool peeps to play with at some point and i rather not repeat my WOW and SWTOR experience. Which was basically me entirely alone all the time, aside from the few friends i made in game, but they weren't very reliable.

Greatsword Ranger, Warrior or Guardian... Tough to choose between since they all seem capable from my time in sPvP. Hard to overlook the warrior's burst advantage however and his massive HP.

Didn't do much yesterday, I only messed around with skills and traits in the Mists. Gotta appreciate the fact that you can just get yourself leveled to 80 and a little playground to practice your skills in.

Mesmer is such a goddamn troll class, and Thief gets so much more awesome with traits.

I'm not sure how the early access stuff works, but I ordered GW2 from gamefly with a 20% off code (1GFT82012) yesterday and got my cdkey immediately.

Is there a separate code for early access or am I good to go?

sword + pistol Mesmer is kind of like playing a Thief with illusions and no shadowstep. Quite decent damage output, and the duelist phantom with the bleeding and frenzy traits can be nasty.

So, I really need a second opinion about Necreomancer and Mesmer. Can't decide between them on my future male charr.

Necromancer I like because of the death influenced skills and overal darkness, hehe.
Mesmer I like because of the illusions and cool spell effects.

Opinions?
