I guess this is as good a place as any to bitch about iTunes Match.

Which is good because I fucking hate this service. I have it enabled on several devices, but it never lets me download the music from the cloud. I have it on my phone and if I tap the icon, nothing happens. I have it here on my work computer, but everything is grayed out. It tells me occasionally that I have to sign in and turn it on, but I AM signed in and I DO have iTM turned on.
Then last night I was trying to sync some songs on my phone. I couldn't though because iTM was ,for whatever reason, preventing me from putting a local copy on my phone.

I don't know. This whole service just kind of sucks and should be sent back to hell, if you ask me. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, furthermore HOW I could be doing anything wrong.

That sucks. iTM has been absolutely wonderful for me. Having my 70GB music collection accessible on my 8GB iPhone is great. It works flawlessly for me too...

The only thing is that it can get wonky when i download so many songs that it reaches the storage limit on my iPhone. I had always thought it would smart-delete things after I hadn't listened to them for a while automatically, but it looks like it doesn't. Another thing is that when i want to delete some music, I can't delete individual albums, I have to just delete all the music I've downloaded. It's only happened twice, though. And now I'm more on top of what I haven't listened to or need on my actual phone and delete as needed.

Otherwise, the fact that as soon as I get a song into my iTunes or change up a playlist or even edit some metadata, it instantly shows up on my phone...just awesome.

I can actually delete individual albums/songs from the menu....and I'm pretty sure it self-deleted some stuff when my iPhone got too full, possibly something up with your device.

Lets see, does shuffle still randomly turn off while playing over Bluetooth? Yes. Another pointless update that doesn't fix the problem I've had since getting iOS5.

Latest version.

My biggest problem with Match is it matching a whole album except one song. How does that even happen?

We still need the option on match to replace explict or clean is it that hard to just add that? I hated going in the car the other day having my iPod connected and fuck you instead of forget you was on lol

Has the latest version fixed the weather widget problem? I live in Surrey, BC and it doesn't show the graphic that tells you what the weather is like. It's a small problem, but annoying.

In fact, I think it doesn't work whenever I use "local weather" for the app.

Did you contact support? That's really strange.

I restored my kid's new ipad 2 from my backup, so they have all of their save games intact by the look of it. From now on do the two ipads lead separate lives, so they can have different save game progress? There is only one app on the computer so do the save games live in a separate folder, unique for each ipad? Both ipads are set up with my apple ID for store, but separate apple IDs for icloud and game center.

Also, bought my wife an iphone, and am wondering if there is a good way to set up photo sharing. She has her own apple ID. icloud can back up her photos she takes somewhere, but the itunes on the computer uses my apple ID. Is there a way to get photos synced wirelessly to the computer, where I can then edit/organise them or share them with others?

I don't manage photos on the mac that is used for syncing, I use a windows computer with lightroom, so a basic import somewhere would be fine - just putting them in a particular folder

I'd like her iphone to be entirely wireless

Major fucking catastrophe today, Im inclined to blame apple.

My step mother has got a new iPad, and she has already got an iPhone so she asked me to set up her iCloud to sync both her devices. On her iPhone I logged into her iCloud and selected to sync contacts etc. at which point it says something along the lines of "Do you want to upload and merge contacts from iPhone to iCloud" so I say yes and then on her iPad it has synced her calender and only 30 of her 200 ish contacts, I go to look on her phone and it has wiped them off there as well, I have changed the contacts account from iCloud and back still nothing.

I have even used back up recovery software to try and retrieve the back ups, only to find they have been replaced with new fucking back ups. It looks like I have fucked up her contacts now.

I'm pretty impressed with iCloud so far I was able to create a list for home improvements on my iPad and at the store the list is there on my phone. So handy.

was going to start a new thread but I think my iphone 4s gyroscope just died in the arse? I can't get photos to rotate to fill the screen. I can't recall what its like but I'm pretty sure when yu have it sideways, it spins around to fill the screen?

?

yeah it should go from portrait to landscape. do you have orientation locked?

Make an appointment and take it it into an Apple Store. You're still under warranty if it's a 4S.

EDIT: Like Squire Felix said, check the orientation lock first.

I think I'm probably weird, but I literally have not used any iCloud functionality so far, precisely for that reason. I just don't trust them to not fuck something up. I don't even totally blame them for it, because stuff like this is so complex it's nearly impossible to have it be bug free day one, or even a few moths later.

As others have mentioned here, I did jump into iTunes Match, and I'm getting the same random shit, where it doesn't match random songs, etc.

I think I'll jump into the whole iCloud world a year from now, when all the bugs are worked out.

I don't know if I'd put the blame solely to Apple, maybe in part? I say this because it did ask you if you wanted to merge the contacts list. I generally backtrack when I see anything like that and back up everything manually by writing down important stuff or something.

iCloud is honestly one of my favourite features on my iOS devices. Photo Stream, and contacts, calendars, and reminders sync are personally convenient since I jump between my iPhone, iPad, and Macbook Pro a lot.

Still some things that definitely need improvement, but I don't think it's as terrible as some people put it.

I had to reset my iPad some time ago, and it was probably the easiest back up, reset, and restore I've done on any device (outside of my iPhone).

The problem is Apple's definition of "merge" has always been very different from what the rest of the world considers merging.

So for iTunes match I can't seem to download any song that was uploaded, just the matched songs. After a quick google search it seems no one can

Good job apple, really enjoyed being a beta tester this past year

Does Action Sheet APIs mean what I think it means?

Photo Stream has inexplicably stopped receiving new photos I'm taking with my phone. What up with that? :(

Right when I needed quick access on my MBP to a photo on my phone...

I've been fucked over by this too. Merge is a lie.

The first time I merged to iCloud, it screwed up too. I make sure I had local backups, so I can avert these sort of disasters. Don't trust the cloud, man. Use it, but always backup locally as well.

I've noticed iOS can and will fail to upload to Photo Stream when the Internet connection is spotty or unreliable at the time it's attempting to upload. The mind bogglingly dumb thing is that it will not reattempt to upload the photos that failed at a later time.

Every month I connect my iOS devices, fire up iPhoto and copy over the photos that didn't get uploaded because the internet connection at my house can be crap at times.

I hope the issue is resolved in iOS 6, but as it is now, I can't rely solely on Photo Stream to put my photos onto the Mac.

Long story short, I went to the apple store because of network issues. They did a fresh install on my phone, not from a back up. The dude said when I connect my phone to my mac I can bring bring over all my settings and stuff when I sync but the latest back up in itunes are from months ago. I know for a fact that it backed up to icloud last night and every night.

How can I sync over my settings from the backup made to icloud?

Do another restore:

Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings

then when it is done you can log into your iCloud account and restore from your back up. The apple store should have done it this way.

OK, then. Thanks, the dude was talking how restoring from backup might leave a lot of junk data so a fresh install followed up by syncing from icloud.

Thanks!

iTunes Match is currently uploading. Previously, the album covers were downloaded. I kept an eye on some albums with low-quality covers, but they're still the same. Of course I verified that the covers in the iTunes store are of higher quality. What's wrong here?

Also I noticed just now that a lot of covers do have a white border on the right and lower edge. I'm not 100% sure that it wasn't there before, but if so I would surely have noticed.

edit: And the covers of some albums which are not available in the iTunes Store, like the Skyward Sword OST from the LE have been altered too. The image (Wii boxart) is the same, but it has been cropped to the standard CD aspect ratio. Unlike the other Wii OSTs, they still have the full cover.

I have been trying to edit a playlist song order for last couple days on my iPhone 4, but it won't ever remember the order I put it in, I click edit in the playlist and move one or two songs to the top then click done but then it seems to put some random song at the top. I tried googling it with no luck anyone have idea what is going on?

I did install that Amazon cloud player app a couple days ago and imported all my playlists to it, weird I edited the same playlist in that app fine. Don't think that should have any effect in the Apple music player though.

Edit: deleting the playlist and starting over seemed like the only thing that worked, guess it got messed up somehow.

Is iCloud backup enabled on iBooks?

For both devices, yes. I restored from an iCloud backup on my phone, and it imported all my books and annotations made on the iPad. However the two no longer sync in this regard. Do I have to do an iCloud backup on the phone itself?

hi. My ipod touch 4g is jailbreaked so should i backup it with itunes or icloud. Will it create any problem because of jailbreak. Please help me.

I've got into a real mess with my photos - my cameraroll was cleared when I updated, and restoring from backup didn't work, meaning I had to fall back onto Dropbox which has entirely different naming conventions, making it hard to organise my photos as I don't know which are duplicates and which aren't! I want to tidy things up, so I'm thinking...

1) Every so often grab *all* of the photos from my phone, store them and organise them on my PC
2) Remove all of the Dropbox folders from my 'Camera uploads' at the same time

Nice and simple, means I have a backup of everything (I don't trust Photostream) until it's sorted and nicely on my desktop... but then I have a problem whereby I don't want to remove every single photo from my phone... is there an easy way to have selected photos just on my phone?

Thanks :)

What do you mean by you don't trust Photostream? I haven't had any issues with it which is why I ask. When I take a photo it saves to the stream and then in turn automatically downloads to my PC (you just need the iCloud service installed) as my backup copy.

The easiest way to grab all of your photos is probably by just hooking up your phone to your PC and going to "My Computer" (or whatever) where your PC sees it as a digital camera and allows you to copy over the folder that contains all your photos.

Thank you so much - this could be perfect, as long as like you said I make sure I regularly transfer stuff across... just want to confirm, are these 100% the same size/quality as the ones on my phone? If so, that means I can arrange things without even having to plugin my phone, and then just delete all of the photos on my phone every so often! Perfect :)

Is there an easy way of keeping certain photos on my phone btw? I sometimes leave them on there in camera roll but it's a bit fiddly and I'd like to separate them somehow, so I can just clear everything without worrying about deleting something I want to keep. Thanks again

(edit) hang about, Photostream doesn't do videos - the clue is in the name I guess. What a bugger.

Not wanting a .me address, I'm using my main gmail account to sync notes with my Mac. I switched to the Exchange server a few days ago to have push notifications, but I noticed just now that in the account details in the iPhone settings app the notes option is missing. Anyone has the same problem? Isn't it possible to sync notes via Exchange?

edit: Huh, according to a post in another forum "Apple have disabled the Notes syncing feature with Exchange accounts".

edit2: Nah, not possible. So it's either push or notes syncing. Or adding another account, either the same gmail one without Exchange just for notes syncing or simply a .me account. I've already got three, that's annoying.

Ah right, I forgot that photo stream doesn't save videos. For those you'll have to connect your phone and copy them over manually.

Unless there's another app out there (back to dropbox?:), the stock apps don't really have a way to prevent you from removing a photo you want to keep. Even if you take a photo and Add To a different album, it stays in the main roll and deleting that photo from the Camera Roll removes it completely from everywhere. That's what photo stream is for I guess:) Also note that while you can remove a photo from the stream and it will stay on your phone (and vice versa), if you remove it from the stream it will also remove it from your PC (or any other device connected to that stream).

Ah, more great information - thank you :)

I'm thinking of going with my initial plan then - every so often transferring every photo from my phone onto my PC, then clearing Dropbox - will just leave Photostream entirely as something that handily syncs between iPhone/iPad/Apple TV and not use it for actually keeping any of the photos (shame, as if it included video it would have been perfect!)

I've also noticed there's a folder selection on iTunes, so I can move any photos I want to keep on my phone into a folder, and hopefully that'll keep them separate? :)

Thanks again

I don't find this to be accurate in my experience. In Lion/Mountain Lion it did but in Windows 7 it doesn't. Removing photos from the stream on any of my iOS devices removes if from all of them but leaves the photos alone on my PC.

In the advent of having 4.5 Gigs of "Other" space I want to to a clean restore (since I never did one when transitioning between my 3G to 4S).

Regarding my Camera Roll, would it be best to just upload all of my backed up photos to Photo Stream, then resave them to camera roll? Or is adding them through iTunes a better option (never tried this method).

I've been hesitant to restore to factory standards because I've been oblivious on how to get my photos back, but Photo Stream seems like the way to go, right?

Can't really go wrong with backing up via iCloud or iTunes either way.

Sorry for the weird wording. I have them all backed up on my PC, and am thinking about how to get them back in my camera roll once I do a fresh restore.

Ah. iTunes/iCloud backup restores them along with your other stuff. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Photo Stream repopulates itself after a minute, too.

Is there a way to add two languages to spellcheck and autocorrect?

it's really annoying when I am typing in spanish and it constantly changes my words to english words

EDIT

I figured it out. awesome-o

Care to let us know?

Oh, haha.. go to Settings > General > Keyboard > International Keyboards

You can add the other languages there. The keyboard now has a little globe in between the 123 button and the siri button. Hit that to switch languages (spellcheck and autocorrect switches as well).
