2012 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Don't Use Imgur

Just the "normal" in-game setting and vanilla SMAA, on a 670. Higher AA settings or straight up downsampling directly gave me too many noticeable dips into the 50s, mostly when driving in the day, although it's probably worth it for the IQ =P

Edit: Although, then you still get stuff like this (down from 1440) http://www.abload.de/img/hkship2012-08-2209-17jnuwf.png so maybe not, especially if the only frame drops come while you're driving, when you're not going to be noticing small IQ improvements anyway because of the motion blur.

I have a 670 and can downsample from 1440p with 60fps at night even in the rain, but any daytime scenes get me 57-58fps at most. I'm guessing it's the shadows. Same with AA set to High too (at 1080p). 60 at night, 55 during the day.

Yeah it's the daytime stuff =/

I'm fine with dropping some frames for a noticeable bump in IQ, but in this case the areas that could use that bump (shader? aliasing on edges near AO effects) remain pretty unchanged, and the parts where I get frame drops (driving at speed, with motion blur, daytime) are parts where you won't notice any improved IQ anyway, so I just stick with keeping 60@1080 with the help of Jesus SMAA.

Two more Sleeping Dogs!

I'm doing the same. The game looks great downsampled from 3200x1800, and it's perfectly playable still, but I'm playing with the smooth motion turned on on my TV and games at 60fps look really nice like that. Anything below 60, though, and it's judder city, so I'll deal with the aliasing for my initial playthrough, at least.

Hey man, mind sharing your resolution settings/timings? I know there's no guarantee that anyone else's settings necessarily works for oneself but I'm out of ideas and can't go higher than 2560x1440. A screenshot would be great ! :)

Please someone tell me that it's the gpu that determines which resolution I can downsample from. Because I've been messing for close to 6 months and not being able to go above 2560x1440...

All I know is that my 560's couldn't give me a custom resolution of say the 3200x1800 you're running Scitek, but now I just simply typed it 3200x1800 with my 670 and for some reason it worked, didn't even have to mess with the timings :o

I'm genuinely surprised.

Nonetheless, thanks!

Yeah, the max resolution of a 560 is 2560x1600. I have the same issue with my 5850. Max for a 670 is 3840 x 2160. Downsampling is more of a thing for newer cards.

Sleeping Dogs, kung fu edition!

Shen likes to cosplay as The Stig in his spare time.

And here's a pretty fun sequence while fooling around that makes me wish I had been recording at the time so I could make a good gif instead. Slowmo jumping off motorcycles at high speed and shooting things = the best.

The car missed me by like an inch =P

Awesome, thanks for answering! I'm running at 1440 as well but haven't implemented SMAA yet (waiting for RadeonPro to support it... and for there to be a way to completely disable FXAA, argh) and there are still little niggles I notice about it that I don't see in your shots. But I'm glad it's simple and not a matter of "Oh, SMSAAMA and SGSAAS and 512x AF" etc. :)

wow... if only I'd known that before haha

I think my monitor doesn't want to play nice at 3840x2160 ( got a flashing red screen ) so I'll settle with 3200x1800

Damn games look amazing using downsampling. I love pc gaming.

I seriously think the next time the whole image quality vs. extra gfx debate comes up again, those Dark Souls shots ought to be placed next to some Dolphin shots and end the argument there and then.

I had a tough time picking what games to preorder on Green Man, between Dark Souls, Darksiders II and Sleeping Dogs. I went with Darksiders II and Sleeping Dogs.

This is me now, after seeing this page.

EDIT: I take it back a little. Those latest shots aren't too bad.

Wow. Holy shit.

Someone please send these to From and any other Japanese console developer missing out on potential PC versions.
