Not true. Rape and murder (or rape murders) can happen anywhere. You're never truly "safe". There's only the illusion of safety.
Don't go by that Empire State Building, or any workplaces, leisure facilities, or universities either.
I am not a violent person but I honestly hope anyone with this attitude gets the short end of the stick.

Not true at all. I mean, you'll be safer but there's no guarantee anywhere. It will definitely spill over as we have more and more poor and destitute people. I live in supposedly safe suburb of Boston and just this weekend a visiting friend of mine had his car broken into. This is where the car theft rates are half the norm in Boston. When you don't take care of your poor or give them opportunities, it is natural people to resort to seedier ways of progressing in their world. And when you have a gun culture to go a long with that, it'll be that much more dangerous.
When Republicans talk about making abortions illegal and at the same time, not offering social services to help the poor, this is what you'll get. Unfortunately for the inner city blacks, they've been going through this cycle for a long time now and nobody cares until it starts to spill over the wealthier neighborhoods.

Especially in the case of Chicago, just saying "BAN ALL TEH GUNZ" is a lazy, thoughtless answer that won't solve the problem.
Getting rid of guns won't change the impoverished, segregated conditions that fosters this kind of violence in America's inner-cities.

2. This is sadly so common in Chicago that this is a weekly occurrence.

Obviously there is no place in the world with the probability of not getting shot is zero. There is a non zero probability that you will accidentally a watermelon seed and a tree will grow out of your ass also. Most places the crime rate is low enough were you can feel perfectly safe.

Other civilized countries were not born of revolution from an armed citizenry.
Think about that for a second.
Because of those origins, American when forming a government wanted the right to bear arms to be a fundamental part of society. In order to preotect themselves from the injustices which occurred under British rule. However, there were neough other rules codified in that America didn't become a governement which ruled by the bullet, but rather the ballot.
Other countries where governements have been overthrown through violent means, those that lead the uprisings, very rarely have set themselves to the task of establishing governing code which tries to reestablish equilibrium, unfortunately.
Also, its was the same sotry, just a different twist back in older countries where poor people wenre't allowed to have arms either. It was just swords instead of firearms.
Was actually planning to check it out. Just heard about it on NPR, Philadelphia is adopting an outreach program similar to the one used in Chicago. I believe it's being screened in the city this week. Philadelphia is having a pretty terrible year for gun violence too.

Let's not generalize all of Chicago, the south and west side are the shithole of our city. The north side while far from perfect is where the decent people live, i wish the south and west side would burn to the ground, they give our city a bad name and a bad reputation.
I'll tell my parents, grandparents, and cousins how indecent they are. Hopefully I reach them before the firebombing campaign commences.

I can't argue with this, it is sad that the people on the south and west side feel the need to kill each other with non-stop violence.
How does it compare to Baltimore these days?
Apparently the Chicago gangs are more splintered and "unprofessional" than historically, which is cause greater and more reckless violence.
I know it's not the whole city. I don't even think that's a common perception, but it's shame if true.

I have the exact opposite opinion. The North side is full of pretentious white families living the suburban dream. That is not Chicago. Chicago is the South and the West. Fuck the north side!

So why keep the guns? They dont protect anything.
Well yeah, as long as it remains localized, most people aren't going to do anything about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those guys who lives in paranoia. I lived close to the sketchy places in Buffalo for a couple years and made it out alright. Living in the US isn't actually that scary in most areas, it's just where there is violence, it's pretty bad.
