Apart from her unlockable costume in 3rd Birthday, what has she been in that wasn't either one of the XIII games or a game where multiple FF leads appear?

TBH that would be kinda dumb design-wise, there is Stella already, who is the main heroine. I kinda fail to see how there is a room for one more female lead. Also, I secretly think Nomura realizes what a hack Toriyama is and tries to stay away.
 
I wish SE was as enthusiastic about Lightning but replace her with GILGAMESH and give me GILGAMESH Saga.

Until he gets his own game I shall never shut up about it.

Did they ever confirm her as a playable character? It kinda of bugs me how little we know about her. :|

I'm fine with the small portions of GILGAMESH'S story coming together though.

Everything? I wish. She's only been in FFXIII, XIII-2, Dissidia Duodecim (with other FF characters), Theathrhythm (with other FF characters), and a costume in The 3rd Birthday.

It might seem that way because FFXIII games have been the only main offline FF games released this generation but she definitely hasn't been pimped out enough like some other FF characters.

Don't forget her JP VA, and Type 0's Seven. Although her JP VA voices Diva.

They really like her JP VA. I think she also voices Aerith in Advent Children if I recall correctly.

Imagine a tournament worthy Final Fantasy fighting game co-developed by Capcom or Namco. 50+ characters ranging from Vivi, Cloud, Ifrit, generic fighter, Moogle, Sephiroth, Edgar, Relm, Sabin, Zidane, Kain, Zack (I could go on forever)... and all the grand level designs and ochestral remixes that would be born from those universes.

I'd buy that.

She is the japanese Aigis, she is Aerith in Advent Children, she is Jeanne Darc, she is the girl from Ar Tonelico, she is Ling Xiaoyu, Aya Brea, I mean, lol. I bet she is going to be Stella
and Noctis
in Versus.

Seven IS Lightning. Like, she even crosses her arms in the exact same way. Lightning just got tired of the bad publicity in XIII and high-tailed it to the one, true FNC game.

Oh but nooooo she was in Dissidia and so we all have to cry about that because somehow she took away from what was otherwise a story entirely focused on The Warrior of Light and how awesome GOLBEZ is.

I really can't wait to get past all this FFXIII crap. XIII was fun enough for what it was but they need to focus on a new FF instead of direct sequels. For me, the appeal of FF has always been how different each numbered game is, the repetitiveness derived from these sequels is a real bummer. I will still play them since I am lame (the original FF was the first NES game I ever played) but I would be a lot happier with them trying something new.
 
Maaya and Ali should voice Etro(since she's supposed to have a more central role) in Versus so we can make up the ridiculous conclusion Lightning is the new goddess.

Damn. Although the only performance from her I may have heard was Ling Xiaoyu as I only heard the English counterparts for the others. Which Tekken she voices her in?

I mean we keep telling SE we don't want something and they give that to us. So let's say we love something that we hate and maybe they might throw us a bone.

Lightning over-exposure is one of the big reasons I was/am unable to complete Duodecim. Not just that she gets shoe-horned into the lead role of the story, but because she gets shoe-horned into everything Final Fantasy related.

Original Dissidia story was simple and cliche to the max, but it was inoffensive and filled with awesome and lovable characters from awesome and lovable games.

I confess I bought into the R=U thing, at least originally. Made more sense than Squall=Dead or Game Plot=Literal=Doesn't make sense.

I think that if XIII-2 were a better game, I would still have withstand another sequel, but since I didn't like it at all (while I liked XIII a lot), I'm looking forward to play something totally new too.

Speaking of that, how do you guys think Type-0 will be released in the west? At this point, I don't know what to think anymore.
Probably they don't want to release it as a PSP remastered title on the PS3. Are they waiting for the Vita to have a wider installed base? Do you think is actually possible we won't get to play it at all?

We will get it for sure, the localization is completed. As for remastered titles it makes sense, my guess is stupid Sony is demanding extra content for a PS3 port. They will probably announce it at TGS. They will never get Vita install base they want.

But what has she been shoehorned into that other FF leads weren't (besides her costume in 3rd Birthday)? She's in the two XIII games, naturally, and then she's in Dissidia 012, Theatrhythm and FF Brigade, along with all of the other FF leads. According to the FF Wiki she's also been in a version of Itadaki Street, as have many FF characters, and was an avatar in KH: recoded, as were many FF characters. I'm trying to understand the context for the claim that she's been unnecessarily shoved into more SQEX properties than warranted, but so far I've only seen her in her own games, and in games with multiple FF characters where she, as the XIII lead, is used to represent XIII.

It seems to me that if SQEX was really hellbent on forcing Lightning into every property possible over the last few years, she would have at least had a speaking cameo in one of the many, many KH spin-offs that have come out since her character was announced

But she's only even in Duodecim for two chapters? The rest of the game revolves around 1)The Warrior of Light and 2) How Golbez is the most badass man in Dissidia.

At this point, I think Kain has made more inexplicable cameos than Lightning. Cropping up in My Life as a Dark Lord and all.

I also hope there is at least a cool Cid in this one, the last ones were completely unmemorable.
Was there even a Cid in FFXIII-2? Also Biggs and Wedge need to come back in some way.

No, the game will probably get announced just for Japan, but if it comes on PS3 there is NO WAY a Western release will not follow, probably quickly after Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if the Japanese version was announced on the show floor, and at the same time a PR went out announcing the game for Western markets as well.

Two of the more recent Cids have been okay. Cid Aulstyne and Cid Lufaine.

I think the important part is that so many people feel like she has been shoehorned into everything, regardless of whether she actually has been or not.

It shows just how sick of her a decent segment of the fanbase is. And it makes SE's decision to keep returning to the XIII well for a short term revenue source slightly more questionable in terms of the long term health of the brand.
