Jesus, I had no idea Lego had a Time Cruisers Theme. That shit is amazing! Looking through this, I honestly think there's at least $2000 worth of vintage sets here. Not kidding

Just finished building the Fire Brigade. Overall, I liked the set, but had some frustration, like with the numbers on the roof (and the roof in general for some reason). Lots of fun stuff on the second floor like people had said.

The numbers are a pain in the ass. If you move to other modulars, the letters on Pet Shop and numbers on Town Hall are a HUGE improvement. More table and easier to pull off. And they look even better to boot.

Glad you liked the second floor though. I loved the brick texture.

Is anyone looking to trade Series 8 figs? I'm also looking for figs from Series 1, 2, and 3. I have a slew of double (and triples) from Series 5, 6, and 7. I would also be willing to trade some loose Star Wars minifigs (the yellow figs, not the "skin" colored figs) if interested.

Ill pick up Grand Emporium when there is a good sale, since I think that is the next to go OOP after the FB. Helms Deep is my next big project though, almost dreading looking at all those pieces haha

I've rebuilt Metal Grudge in new colorway, which I've appropriately named "Ice Burn".
One side Hot Fire, the other side Cold Steel. (Icy Hot Stuntaz would be so proud of me now)

I am interested in anything pre series 7. I am missing only a couple from series 5 and 6, and everything from 1-4. I have some extra Bavarians and Conquistadors from series 8 at the moment. I think those are the only duplicates right now.

MOC UPDATE: I have finished the exterior of the Book Shop. Finishing up all the interior details right now, and will post pics once completed. REALLY liking how this one is coming together. Definitely a big step up from my Corner Florist, and liking it more than my Cafe as well. Really excited to show this one off.

Lord Error, that tank is really cool - love the split colours.

I'm going to hell (but I'm done buying knockoffs, I swear):

Mega Bloks' manuals are really fucking terrible though. They make the building process far more painful than it should be and other than the way too tight fit of their bricks is the product's biggest problem. I like the Warthog (the gun in particular is fragile but an interesting thing to build), but I never would have bought it if I didn't get it half off at $25. And I admit I debated whether I should buy it or instead buy $25 worth of Lego like a sane person, but $25 would have barely bought me a Street Rebel.

I also bought a mini digger - I don't like most of the Creator sets in the little plastic containers but this one looks pretty cool and gets a lot of mileage out of so few pieces.

Once I finish my move to Alberta next month one of the first things on my to-do list is a trip to Calgary to visit the Lego store, where I will buy the Grand Emporium and not have to pay provincial sales tax. Though I admit I may be tempted to go with a Sopwith for display purposes, as it would look nice hanging in the corner of our new rec room.

Plus I've never been to a Lego store, period, and I want to see how the whole pick a brick thing works.

Oh man, Robie House from Amazon Warehouse had "damaged box". More like "mauled the SHIT box". But, for the price I paid, I can't complain. I'll post a pic tomorrow because it's quite good.

Sweeet! Digging the bookstore!

In LEGO news, apparently they are switching to a 5-digit numbering system for all sets starting in 2013. It's about time, as set numbers were starting to cross over part numbers, etc.

As you may have read elsewhere, retailers have been viewing 2013 sets recently, and probably have catalogues. However they have signed NDAs so don't expect to find much information out there just yet.

Having said that, some has leaked already and if you know where to look, you can find it. We won't be revealing any of it here, because we respect LEGO's wishes to keep it confidential, but a piece of 'generic' information has come to light that I will reveal: It appears that LEGO has started to use 5 digit numbers for all sets, not just 'special' ones.

The first evidence to appear that suggested this might be the case was the Hobbit sets that will be numbered 790xx. Now, other 2013 sets that have been mentioned elsewhere also have 5 digit numbers, for example 420xx will be Technic.

Personally I think it's great, particularly because we should see some logic applied to the numbering system, something that we haven't had since the 1990s when the system was clearly defined. Since then, they've just allocated any free numbers they could find and it's all become a bit of a mess.

5-digit numbers have been in use since 2001, but unlike the 4-digit series, they have been applied with a system in mind:

10xxx - LEGO exclusives
20xxx - Brickmaster/MBA
21xxx - Architecture
30xxx - Promotional polybags
40xxx - LEGO brand retail polybags/small seasonal sets
55xxx - Universe
65xxx - Super-packs
Let's hope it continues: it should make the job of maintaining the database much easier!
from Brickset

sounds good to me :)

I had to finish it and take pics before bed. I would not be able to sleep without doing it.
I present the Bookshop Around the Corner (or whatever cute name I think of later.)

Exterior

Awnings on each floor, along with some of the minor exterior details.

Backside of the building. There is no back exit like most modular buildings. This was mainly due to the lack of me having another door piece, but it also allowed me to make a larger building.

First Floor

Window displays. I had originally put the actual book pieces (like that came with the LOTR sets) in the windows, but they fell off too easily. And going to using regular plates it allowed me to keep adding books all over the store.

The big display table for all the hot, new releases.

The front cash register. Of course, the Merc With the Mouth is on customer service.

"No. For the last time! The book by Mary Shelley is in fiction, not biography!"

Second Floor

"One does not simply walk into the Science Fiction/Fantasy section."

Boromir browses the table stacks...

Endcap displays featuring popular selections.

Third Floor

"HULK LOOKING FOR BOOK CALLED 'SMASHING FOR DUMMIES'!"

"HULK ALSO LOOKING FOR 'FIFTY SHADES OF GREY'!"

awesome, the display case in the ground floor widows takes the cake though :D

Thank you. I am quite fond of the opened book on display. Thought about doing all of them like that, but could not find all the 1x1 studs with vertical grip like I used on that one. I also really like the second floor bookcase with the endcaps.

BONUS: The table and chairs on the third floor were from the MOC contest we had on here. 90% of the pieces in those were from the Blue Roadster. :)

EDIT: Hmm. I dont know why I didnt notice it, but I think I need to change the color of the octagon table on the first floor. It blends in with the floor. Even with it being elevated like that it blends too much. Something to fix tomorrow.

Love the end caps and the table displays. The bookshelves are neat but those extra details really being it to life. Like the awning/entrance over the door too, the way the arch pieces all come together is great.

Helms Deep came. Have to finish the Fire Brigade tonight though. Still trying to convince myself not to buy Moria
Finally did Helms Deep over the last week, building a bag a night. Fun build.

That corner bookstore is a fire trap. Hope the Fire Brigade is located nearby.

Now build it with LEGO bricks to earn forgiveness!

This is my favorite from looking around the internet:

Pretty sure there's a few custom pieces used, but I like the look of it quite a bit.

EDIT: I like this one a lot too. Even includes instructions and variants! http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/283560

The color I most want from LEGO: Olive/Military Green. Mix it with Reddish Brown, Tan, and Dark Tan so we can make military vehicles.

Does anyone know why Lego didn't get the license for Halo and WoW? I would buy every dang set if they did...

well the founder of LEGO would probably turn in the grave with many of the current lines.
he was a very outspoken pacifist.
thats why it took a long time for any weapons of any kind to arrive in LEGO.
its also the reason that it took a long time for the original colourful colour pallet to be expanded. (even with black I believe)
even in my childhood almost all the legos where red, yellow, blue and white.

so Halo would I imagine be too militaristic
and tan green would lend itself too much to military vehicles...

But we have Star Wars, Super Heroes, etc. There's tons of violence lol.

I love the design of the first floor. The entrance is awesome. The exterior on the second and third floor bother me a bit. Please don't take this negatively because you do great work. But I am not sure if its the color that gets me. I don't really like the curved glass or the color I think. I am sure that's based on the bricks you have. just think there needs to be something else there to break it up. Amazing work though. Keep it up.

I had thought of using some different colors on the front of each floor to set it off a tad. Like the light blue or light green here and there. I might also look at removing the random textured bricks (like the gold ones) to keep it more uniform. It is something that is still slightly puzzling me on how to fix, but I am not quite sure how. Thank you for the feedback, I always love it.

But we have Star Wars, Super Heroes, etc. There's tons of violence lol.

Those are all more widespread well known IP's that also tend to be more family friendly even with violence. Stuff like Halo and WoW is more of an older boy market and just probably not as marketable worldwide.

How about a dark red floor for the second story? It would fit the beige yet also contrast it and make the whole thing a bit more colorful.

Anyway... it is effing awesome Phonicle. I love your MOC's, all of them!

P-Bone.

Your MOC's are awesome. Just curious though, how did you amass all those pieces? Were they mostly from pick-a-brick, or sets or other? Or a combination of everything? How do you go about designing you MOC? Lego design software, pen and paper, or just in your mind?

Also curious to know how many sets/pieces you actually have. Damn expensive hobby...... *wallet nods in agreement*

Most pieces are from sets. A majority of the bookstore was all of the LOTR sets combined with windows from some Friends sets. There is some PAB stuff in there, like the tiles for the sidewalk and some random pieces here and there.

As far as design, I just look at sets or what pieces I have and start thinking of what I could do with them. Then I just sit down and start building. Lots of trial and error to check how certain things look, etc. But it is mainly just in my head and then just building it to see if it works.

And I am still incorporating pieces from Tower Bridge into sets. That is the gift that keeps on giving for MOCs.

Thanks Phonciple, I assumed it was the Tower bridge since most bricks seemed familiar. I'm picking up the haunted house on Saturday; it'll be my first 1000+ set, let alone 2000+

Excited!

Love the moc, Phonciple. Is that four you're up to now? My Fire Brigade is all lonely by itself, I unfortunately don't have the quantity of Lego at my apartment to even attempt one though seeing how far the Tower Bridge has gotten you makes it a tempting purchase just for building stuff.

That one has a nice sense of scale for its size.

Having just built the Mega Bloks one, though, the gun on that looks like it's composed of megabloks connectors, which is interesting.

Man awesome job overall! I didn't even notice the quote at first and was going to add one myself, but you beat me to it :) Impressive as always!

Monster Fighters promo set for purchases of $75+ during the month of September at the LEGO store (or S@H) in North America.

EDIT: Apparently this promo will also be available in Europe.

That book shop, holy crap! Awesome work there PhoncipleBone!

Haha, there's a good Megabloks train set, which at least in photos looked very impressive. But there's no denying that plastics they use are just kind of yucky somehow.

Tank is a Metal Slug tank replica btw :)

Awesome work! I can't get over how awesome Legos look in red.
Also, I can't get over how cool those treads look
You have to see this thing in motion, it's one of the most lively, best controlling RC vehicles I've ever seen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOuP_w0FZi0

Omni Wheels do absolutely wonders for the maneuverability of the vehicle.

I'm sure this will be easy for most of you. A sample bag from a set I picked up today.

Oc05vl.jpg

If I had waited until Saturday I could have gotten the free zombie car....kind of kicking myself about that.

Yeah, the garage door pieces coupled with those coloured bricks kind of give it away.

You're in for a treat building it, though.

What are people's thoughts on the Shelob set for LotR?

I'm about to put an order in to get the Tie Fighter to go with my X-Wing and I was thinking of tacking Shelob on the same order.
