Fighting Games Weekly | August 27 - September 2

Professor posted something over at the MMCafe about a KOF player who had become the butt a pretty nasty joke. Just a Copy and Paste here.

The top KOF13 Terry player in Japan has become the biggest news in the anime industry this week, but not because of his 'ARE YOU OK' gaming skills. Hell, he even became headline on Kotaku.

Mitsuhiro Yukichi (you can see him play against Tokido here and here) works his dayjob as a professional voice actor. In fact, he became a voice actor because of his dream to one day do a character in KOF-- talk about being a hardcore fan. He's already in his 30's but so far he hasn't had his big break yet, living off on minor roles.

And as everyone knows, small-time voice actors are treated like crap.

In Yukichi's case, he was humiliated to the pulp on broadcast thanks to an idiot producer at Kingrecords who thought that lieing to him about getting a role in a new anime would be funny, and the harassment continued as a part of a janitor-level job thrown at him (not like he can quit) until at least recently when the news got out. The details of what happened to him can be read in the URLs below. It was pretty depressing to see him being toyed by a voice actoress who kept jolting up the voltage on a massage gizmo strapped on his body while he was trying to make a presentation in one of his publicity jobs. The reaction of the public has been ugly after they've learnt about the whole incident, and the anime's radio show was forced to cancel just today.

That's a horrible story. D;

I hope it works out for that guy. That kind of bullying is one of the worst things that can happen to a professional. :\

Alex Garfield just mentioned Anheuser Busch (Alcohol) as a new sponsor during this panel, but no other details. Evil Geniuses? OneMoreGame?

Wonder how that would go. Potentially an alcohol sponsor in the fgc? remember brazeers gate?

It's not sexual so it's fine. Though I guess the NOS girls are going to have some competition of attention at events now.

Any particular time? Don't feel like watching through 2 and a half hours lol
It starts a few minutes in and goes interspersed throughout the rest of the video with real questions. Less and less as it goes on it seems.

At least until the 15 minute mark.

"What if she likes Team Battle?" had me rolling.

Oh yeah. Alcohol sponsor, porn sponsor...totally things you can compare fairly.

Gootecks on CCLive in that video (about 54 minutes in and afterwards):

tl;dr:
It was really fun but on TheStreamTV's side there were complications.
CCLive was never intended to be a financial venture, unlike CC/Excellent Adventures.
"CCLive took an entire day to prepare. 20% of the work week, 0% of the revenue, why continue?"
"Between seasons 1 & 2, I didn't want to continue."
"Things changed on their side, and it was not fair to some of the people working (including Brian)"
Gootecks implies he wasn't very interested in it and that he thought it was starting to get stale. Seems like he got bored of it.
"In my mind to grow as a person and as a business person, you have to go try and do new things. In my mind, with the gaming business, everything that is to be done has been done, at least anything I can think of. There isn't a single idea that I can think of that we haven't tried, and could not work better in a different area such as live music."

I could type more, but I think you guys get the idea..

EDIT: Says that he's into doing more guides like the Ryu guide with Air. He says obstacles are presenting that and "when you see those roadblocks clear and we're putting out one of those a month, you'll know that's where the money is".

I think this has to do with Machinima, and I always wished we got more of those, the Marvel 1.0 with Viscant was some of their best work.

EDIT2: He also cleared up the complexity thing. Their contracts were over in June and FChamp resigned with them (implying the rest didn't?).

They serve alcohol at baseball stadiums in this country.

Oh yeah. Alcohol sponsor, porn sponsor...totally things you can compare fairly.

One is way worse than the other.

Right now there are so issues with the GODSGARDEN #6 stream. Right now it's only on Nico Nico Live, which itself isn't a breaking issue, but not being able to access the stream outside of the US is one:

Trying to figure out the situation right now.

It's kinda strange that they'd give people permission in the US and then region lock it... Maybe they really didn't care and just flippantly gave their word.

Oh God I know right? Damn this puritanical country. I wish we were more like Europe, where advertising alcohol is banned and billboards for bukkake porn adorn the sides of interstates.

I'm actually not following you. Can you be a straight shooter on this one, please?

It doesn't matter if one has a better/worse net effect on society. Alcohol advertising and porn advertising are completely different things that come with completely different baggage. Comparing an Anheuser Busch sponsorship with a sponsorship from a hardcore porn company is silly.

I didn't compare anything. You read way too much into my post. I said we serve alcohol at baseball stadiums to say that it won't be met with the same scrutiny as a porn sponsorship would. My reply to your comments is something I stand buy as someone who experienced alcoholism and the harm it does but I'm fully aware on the state of affairs when it comes to the two here.
