Kamiya getting back to work instead of tweeting?

whoa

plot twist: "getting back to work" is code for tweeting

The meltdown has been amazing. And this Nintendo fanboy turned Xbot is squarely back on home base.

Begun the console wars have.

It's exciting to see this thread explode. The most encouraging thing about the response to Bayonetta 2 is the sheer magnitude of the feedback. It suggests that a lot of people know and care about Bayonetta. If the announcement had been met with indifference, I'd have been concerned.

I hope this controversy about Bayonetta 2's platform exclusivity builds interest in the game itself so that it's at least as successful as the original. As others have pointed out, this is a fairly low bar to shoot for if Nintendo markets the game well. And as Opiate said, Bayonetta 2's real value to Nintendo might be its strategic potential to lure trend setting developers over to the Wii U. But the main reason I want this game to sell is that Nintendo pulled a bold move here by reviving a niche project. They are aggressively courting gamers whose interests are far removed from the mainstream. Bayonetta 2 is not Wii Music, people. Nintendo is laying the groundwork for a more ambitious, diverse, and innovative next generation. This should be welcomed with enthusiastic support by everyone who was alienated by the Wii's pandering to the casual market.
I hope this is true, but there are other possible explanations.

1) Anxious about the indifferent reactions to E3, Nintendo was on the lookout for another core game that could be released quickly and this project was simply up for grabs and seemed like a good deal. Nothing more, Nintendo will keep focusing on the casual market themselves.

2) It was simply part of the deal with Platinum Games for Wonderful 101 from the start, sort of 'okay we're creating an exclusive for your system, but we have this nearly completed project that we want to see finished, so how bout a little cashflow our way'. It's not indicative of a change in Nintendo's position.

3) It could be part of a larger courting between Platinum Games. If we finance Bayonetta and it does well, you'll commit to more future projects, such as Starfox.

4) Maybe they're testing how their games sit with the new Wii U public in preparation of making PG a second party studio.

Need Vanquish 2 and BG&E2 (because the U in Wii U stands for Ubisoft) exclusive on Wii U and Nintendo reviving Shenmue 3 and acquiring its license from Sega for maximum salt.

Seriusly.

If Nintendo continues with core game exclusives like this, meltdowns (and absolute hatred) will rise, lol

Shenmue 3 please, Iwata-san make it happen ;)
It was interesting that when Monster Hunter 3 (tri) was moved from the PS3 to the Wii, there was never a major backlash among Japanese fans as the franchise was previously a PlayStation exclusive. I had to wonder why, and Monster Hunter is a more established franchise than Bayonetta.

i always thought about self entitled core gamers as 15 year old lunatics, who became mad, because mom can beat them now on wii sports. well..

At moments like this I always think of gamers as symphonic rock fans. No matter how good the concert was, there's always something to complain about. ;-)

bge2 isn't coming out for anything for a very long time.

shit, next year is the tenth year since it released. we'll probably see it in 2014 at the earliest.

This is so awesome, and it's only the beginning. So glad that Bayo2 got picked up, and so glad it resulted in the awesome-ness of today.

Thread prompted me to buy Bayo1 and Vanquish for my xbox, ordered them last night, came today (I love the internet).

Bayo2 being WiiU exclusive does actually make me feel abit uncomfortable now from an ocd collectors stand-point though, I won't be able to put them next to each other on the shelf.

YES a Bayonetta sequel, fantastic news. Respect to Nintendo for bringing this into fruition.

Sony and Microsoft had their shot - pissed of P360 fans know where to focus their ire IMHO.

you will if your wii u collection ends where your xbox 360 collection starts.

Yeah so, I didn't had the time to reply yesterday because I was busy writing news about the Nintendo conferences. Anyway, the backlash of this announcement is hideous. It makes me ashamed to even notion the thought of calling myself a gamer. It is OK to be a bit dissapointed that you won't be playing Bayonetta 2 because you are not planning to buy a Wii U, but some of the outrage is truly sickening. If you want Bayo 2 THAT bad, just buy a Wii U alright? In the end, all systems are worth owning anyway so it won't hurt you that much.

With that out of the way, this is exactly the kind of agressive tactics I want to see from Nintendo. They want to win over their hardcore fanbase again? Fine, show us how its done. They also can't leave it at this, they need to announce a few more partnerships and exclusive hardcore games this and early next year. They have to ensure gamers that yes, you are going to get hardcore games on the Wii U, this is not going to be like the Wii situation.

I was already getting good vibes from the Wii U from a software point of view, but after yesterday, with Bayo 2 and Monster Hunter, I'm getting even better vibes. Wii U feels like a gamers platform, and with two PlatinumGames announced before the console has even launched it actually feels more hardcore than X360 and PS3 right now, fucking lol. This while Nintendo is also trying to keep the casual market satisfied with Wii Fit, Nintendo Land and Sing.

If Nintendo pulls this off, the Wii U can be one of the most all rounded consoles ever. Basically what they wanted the Wii to be. Exciting times!

It would be amazing to see another well-rounded console. I thought those days were over with the PS2.

I always imagined Shenmue 3 to be a SEGA and SCEJ collaboration.

I don't think that's gonna happen for a long time for two reasons.
1) Sony are run by idiots. They had a great lead with the PS2 and pissed it all away which actually takes a lot of skill. Maybe Shuhei can turn that ship around.
2) Sony are bleeding money out the wazoo, what with PS3 not doing as well as they wanted and all the money they put into getting the Vita out into the wild, only for them to drive off into the horizon and abandon it.

As I've said before, the earliest ps4 and 720 are going to be released is holiday 2013. With the systems complexity and following this gen, its probably worth waiting 6 months to pick one or both up.

That means between summer 2013-2014 you have Plently time to pick up a Wii u, 100% bayo, then sell the system on if Nintendo don't continue to bring the goods, third party wise.

You might lose $100-150 bucks in the process, but I'd happily pay that to play bayo 2 on current gen consoles.

Seeing people act like they acted in this thread and that W101 thread, it makes me wonder if we deserve the shitty side of the industry we've been getting as of lately, yesterday? I didn't believe it, today? I do, the only thing we didn't deserve was that MML3 death, though. :(

How would these people have reacted if it was announced exclusively for next-gen PS/MS consoles , would they have cried betrayal still because they have to buy a new console to play it?

Those consoles would be worth it because ms/sony will announce every game to be released for the system post-launch, so people know what they're getting in to.

Though realistically similar reactions would happen, there would just be less of them seeing as it's wouldn't be PS & MS owners but PS or MS owners.

This my first next gen hype experience and I'm enjoying the meltdowns.

Nintendo is starting to look really solid with 3DS and Wii U getting the Japanese gamer games. Exciting times.

I'd wager it'd be the same thing if Bayonetta was originally a Wii exclusive, fans adored it, then next thing you know the sequel is exclusive to a Sony or Microsoft platform. Stuff like this happens and it's tough to gauge reactions to announcements like this some times.

Another thing I've thought of. Being a Nintendo release, I veryuch doubt that the game will be held back by preorder dlc and withheld content. The game you buy is the game you buy, which if it follows the original, will have an amazing amount of content and replay value anyway. If one game alone could hold my interest for a whole year, it would be bayonetta.

This is the backlash as I understand it, and why I think it's foolish. I welcome correction.

People want PS3/360 versions. Bayonetta was for the PS3 and 360, so fans expect its sequel to be for the same consoles (because they already own one of those) or for their successors (because they actually intend to buy at least one of those) and are upset that it isn’t.
That’s fair, but all indications are that this game was outright cancelled. It wouldn’t exist today if someone didn’t jump in to fund it. In that case, blame Sony or Microsoft or whoever else for not putting up the money before Nintendo did. Non-Wii U versions won’t exist anytime soon, if ever.

Some people will never buy the Wii U, so they’re upset that they can never play Bayonetta 2.
People say “never” a lot. Where does this come from? Why don’t they ever intend to buy the Wii U?

These people would like to play Bayonetta 2, but have no faith in the future support of the Wii U, believe that it’s redundant hardware that will soon be obsolete, and/or have no interest in any other games that have already been announced for it.
To say “never” because of those reasons seems pretty extreme, especially considering the system now has a game that these people want. If they truly want to play Bayonetta 2, then they should just buy the Wii U for this one game, since they likely won’t be able to play it on any other platform.

It’d be foolish for people to buy a console for a single game.
That would be highly dependent upon how much someone would be willing to pay in order to play the desired game, wouldn’t it? That cost of entry is different for everyone.

As an extension of the previous concern, some people are upset with this situation because they don’t have the funds to support more than one system and, as mentioned above, the Wii U is not that one system. Having it on PS3/360 (i.e. they would only need to buy the game) or PS4/720 (i.e. it wouldn’t be the only game they’re interested in on the system) makes more financial sense to these people. Thus, it would not be feasible to purchase the Wii U solely for Bayonetta 2.
What’s stopping these cash-strapped people from waiting until the price drops for both the Wii U and Bayonetta 2? They both will drop eventually. There has to be a point sometime in the future, no matter how far, where the cost of buying both products is worth it for these people to play this single game that they’re passionate about.

Like with all games, though, these people would like to play it as soon as possible.
I personally don’t get the desire to play a game immediately, but if Bayonetta 2 turns out to be sublime upon release, it’s not like it’s going to stop being excellent years down the road. It’s not like <insert favorite game from one or two generations ago> is suddenly worse because of the games and systems we have available now.
Besides, if these people are hoping for a PS3/PS4/360/720 version, considering the current publishing situation, they’ll be waiting a long time for something that might never happen.

TL;DR.
If people want to play Bayonetta 2 as soon as possible, they’d buy the Wii U to do so. If they don’t have the money to support more than one console, or think it’s foolish to buy a console for a single game, they can wait for a price drop to make that cost worthwhile, and then buy the Wii U to do so.
For whatever inexplicable reason, these people instead choose to pout about the lack of other versions and turn their nose up at the one company that was willing to keep a beloved franchise going, foolishly depriving themselves of what could be a wonderful experience.

Do you understand that while people love Bayonetta so much. It's not easy to buy one console just for this game? It's a good experience but not a system seller.

Me, never expect Bayonetta 2 on this machine. Didn't plan to buy WiiU (even if I own all nintendo console since NES). Bayonetta 2 annoucement come as a shock (as I like this game so much). But if I will ever buy this machine it will be because the game from Xenoblade team. WiiU need more momentum than Bayonetta 2 to drag those people.

We're talking about non-Nintendo audience here. They won't ever get wow seeing Mario or Pokemon.

DIdn't the original Bayonetta run like crap on the PS3? Bayonetta fans should rejoice that they don't have to go through that again!

Some of these SRK guys need to get a grip.

There was never going to be a Bayonetta 2. Your beloved Sega cancelled it!

It's Nintendo or nothing. They should be grateful!

Some information on the project from Platinum Games (including a segement from Hideki Kamiya).

Alongside Nintendo, we hope to grow the Bayonetta brand beyond where it stands today, allowing even more gamers around the world to experience the action of our beloved witch. As developers, we are working hard to make this a reality.

This is wishful thinking, but growing the Bayonetta brand sounds like they hope for more than one game.

My fucking god. It's embarrassing to read reactions in this thread and elsewhere. What the fuck, gamers? I don't want to be part of this group anymore.

And why wouldn't they? Let's hope the game performance satisfies Nintendo, I could even see them trying to buy a % so they can keep the I.P. like they did with Fatal Frame.
