good thing the ps3 port was horrible and sold less than the 360...

i played vanquish and was nice, but not bayonetta on my ps3.if it was vanquish i think it would be a bigger exclusive....

I love it how meltdown for confirmation the game is still in development far exceeds the meltdown when the game was cancelled
You have a point but then again the cancellation thread didn't the handwringing "the tears lol" posts which obviously add so much to the conversation.

And the fact they say "alongside Nintendo" means that they at least intend to stick with them as a publisher for at least the immediate future.

I don't blame them. They have a solid company backing them with Bayonetta 2 (the most highly demanded game where the P* is concerned), much more so than any other partner they've worked with in the past. With The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2, Nintendo is allowing Platinum Games some real freedom. I'd stick with them too when not working on projects for other devs.

With Hideo Kojima wanting to see Rising sequels, I can see Platinum Games exploding in creativity, work and popularity in the future to the level they deserve. Rising and Bayonetta 2 are my most hyped games of all. Though yes, I need a Wii U now. :lol

Would like to see the return of Vanquish though. :P

Edit: Wii U is backwards compatible? Yesssssssssss.

I still can't believe Bayonetta 2 was canceled. :( A game that was so deserving of being made. I will love Nintendo forever now.

That's the odd part. Bayonetta 2 was never really cancelled, because it never got announced in the first place. Instead we had misleading tweets from Kamiya for the past two years. No sense in galvanizing Nintendo here...

No matter how much a gamer dislikes something, once the price is right, if they love a franchise enough, theyre gonna jump aboard. Its our nature. fuck pride, there are games to be played.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Wii U exclusive anyone?

that would be sweet, but I will follow BGE2 ANYWHERE. Doesnt matter. I hope its multiplat for maximum exposure.

bge2 isn't coming out for anything for a very long time.

shit, next year is the tenth year since it released. we'll probably see it in 2014 at the earliest.

You make me sad Ani :(

I will from now on call the Wii U " The Wonderful Platinum Games Machine".

So good. I am Platinum Happy :D

I still don't believe that it won't upscale. That was some sort of miscommunication. Expecting the WiiU to internally render Wii games at higher resolutions is some colossal case of goalpost moving.

A lot of games are cancelled before they are announced. They were still cancelled, not "cancelled".

And, by all counts, Bayonetta 2 was cancelled.

So... it was never cancelled?

Edited to show more of what he said.

Just saw what some people tweeted Kamiya during the night... what a bunch of despicable morons.

I didn't expect Bayonetta 2 to be ever made, so the announcement was a big surprise, but a good one. Seeing people shitting on Nintendo and Platinum like that is incredible...

Nobody's wanted to put the cash on the table to risk a second game, and Nintendo is helping the creation of it, so why this torrent of hate? Sega is in deep financial trouble, Platinum last game was another bomba... what's the other choice ? Microsoft and Sony do nothing while Platinum goes bankrupt ?

It's not even sure that RE-vengeance will be a financial success (or even a good game), so I'm glad there is at least another 2 games to be looking for in Platinum's future.

Kotaku: Bayonetta 2 Developers Don’t Want to “Alienate” You

Bayonetta 2 is under development and production here at Platinum Games, and is a true sequel to the acclaimed first game in the series. Bayonetta is one of our most beloved titles, and it played a large part in establishing Platinum Games as an emerging game studio in the minds of users worldwide. Bayonetta has fans the world over, and we would never dream of alienating them from participating in the future of Platinum Games.

Along with their new hardware, Nintendo, as a company, is dedicated to establishing a new future for the games industry, as you can tell by their record of passionate support for gaming. Alongside Nintendo, we hope to grow the Bayonetta brand beyond where it stands today, allowing even more gamers around the world to experience the action of our beloved witch. As developers, we are working hard to make this a reality.

It has been three years since Bayonetta, a title I was also a part of... I'm incredibly happy to be able to announce that we are working on a sequel. Alongside Bayonetta's creator, Hideki Kamiya, I'm working on everything from creating a compelling world to character designs (I will be designing the enemies again), and everyone on our talented team is united around the core of Bayonetta, Climax Action, in an effort push the series forward. For empowering our heroine with incredible new action to introducing new characters (which you may have noticed in the teaser trailer), Bayonetta will further expand on the mythology of the Trinity of Realities—Inferno, Paradiso, and our human world. I can't wait to take the journey with you.

After Bayonetta was released, I was coming back on the bullet train with Yusuke Hashimoto, pondering various ideas for sequels or spin-offs to Bayonetta over a beer. I never thought we'd actually get to announce a sequel to her story, so I am absolutely over the moon.

Even though there has been a bit of a gap since the release of the last game, but I still got lots of request for a sequel from gamers. We were secretly making one the entire time. While I am not the director of this game, I am still supervising the world, story, characters, etc. in close coordination with Hashimoto, and I have been from the very beginning. You have nothing to work about on that end. And of course, plenty of members from the first Bayonetta are on-board and working hard under the direction of Hashimoto, so I look forward to work every day, coming in and seeing all the progress they have made on the game. With new hardware, we look forward to expanding on the Climax Action of Bayonetta, so sit tight and get ready!

Until Sega pulled out, then it was left with no publisher. So they either went around looking for a new one, left it on hold, or Nintendo said they would let them continue making it for an exclusive.

Got any evidence for that? Or are we just going to assume that Sega was disinterested in finishing off the sequel to a critically acclaimed new IP that sold over a million copies?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-05-01-sega-cancels-bayonetta-2-report

Sega has cancelled development on Bayonetta 2, according to a new report.
A source told ***** that Sega halted development on the Platinum-created sequel following an internal restructure.
Apparently the game included a new character, someone who was a member of the US military.
Last month Sega announced a number of games had been cancelled, but didn't specify which ones. Was Bayonetta 2, which has never been announced, one of them? Sega declined to comment on the story.

I for one hope Nintendo keeps dropping similar announcements. Reviving Bayonetta 2 from the dead is something we should all welcome.

And why wouldn't they? Let's hope the game performance satisfies Nintendo, I could even see them trying to buy a % so they can keep the I.P. like they did with Fatal Frame.

I think this whole Nintendo diplomats and reviving dead franchise thing they've been doing has been just great. It's really nice of them to go around the whole industry and personally fund worthwhile projects. I think this isn't only good for Nintendo who gets to have the exclusivity, but for the game creators too, who will get another chance to work on a franchise they love and franchises that deserve to be continued.

Not to mention if Nintendo covers the marketing, the sales may be EVEN better for these guys that have struggled. I don't want to sound like i'm making them the people's champion, but they're really doing a bang-up job of making the games industry a better place with their recent initiatives for gamers and game studios.

Bayo 2 even being allowed to exist is proof enough.

"A source told ***** that Sega halted development on the Platinum-created sequel following an internal restructure."

Rumor dressed up as a report. Got anything better?

Not until it becomes official, which will most likely be never unless PG guys want to tell us the story.. But the idea behind the new character makes it sound like it was true.

It's not being published by Sega anymore, what more evidence do you want? If they have the intention of supporting the IP they would've been the publisher. They obviously have no faith and/or interest in PG games anymore as The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 are both published by Nintendo and MGRising is for Konami. Not a zero project with Sega.

You know what makes it sound like Bayonetta 2 was never cancelled? The creator saying they were making it the entire time.

This has been corroborated by numerous people. Platinum were working on Bayo 2, Sega cancelled it.

Couldn't post last night due to being banned, but I have to say I'm fucking pissed off. Really, REALLY pissed off...

...pissed off that I have to wait until next year! HOOK IT INTO MY VEINS NOW!

any chance they will put the original on the Eshop
It'd be neat if they included the original for free on the disc with Bayo2...

I hope they do find a way to port it somehow. It'd be nice to have a version of Bayo1 locked at 60fps with no tearing, which neither of the currently available versions are.

It was interesting that when Monster Hunter 3 (tri) was moved from the PS3 to the Wii, there was never a major backlash among Japanese fans as the franchise was previously a PlayStation exclusive. I had to wonder why, and Monster Hunter is a more established franchise than Bayonetta.

This 1,000 times.

Yeah, from 2009, not from April 2012. It was most likely put on hold while they found another publisher, or still worked on and waiting for someone to foot the bill, which no one did but Nintendo. So, either way, we are still at square 1, Nintendo helped them finish it when no one else did.

I'm probably looking too much into it but what a horrible headline... it sounds so... condescending somehow....

In his head yeah...:

After Bayonetta was released, I was coming back on the bullet train with Yusuke Hashimoto, pondering various ideas for sequels or spin-offs to Bayonetta over a beer.

But then it was cancelled...
I never thought we’d actually get to announce a sequel to her story, so I am absolutely over the moon.

This is what i was thinking. One of those awkward "indefinite delay" situations.
