Wait.

Wii U can't play GCN games?!?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Any new Wii consoles manufactured since last christmas can't play gamecube games:

No gamecube controller ports either. So yeah, Nintendo officially abandoned GC back compatibility a year ago.

no,sega still has the rights on the franchise, but it's not putting any money on this project.
they're calling themselves "advisors" of the project, but nintendo is founding it and publishing it,and platinum is developing.

so bayo 2 will stay forever on wii u (or maybe other nintendo consoles),but a possible "bayo 3" is free for all, sega just need to found the project.

Oh no, I was referring to the Fatal Frame IP. Also, you mean funding it, founding is another meaning ;).

What Nintendo needs to do right now is to announce Devil's Third as a WiiU exclusive also and not let the craziness stop

This would be great.

are we gonna get Tokusatsu Bayonetta?

Red
Blue
Yellow
Pink
Green

I want to buy a book where she poses in colorful lingerie, I already got the photoshoot art one from the awesomest and most decadent mind of gaming most famous sexself-made man.

You'll just have to purchase Wind Waker from the eShop just like everyone else.

Only if it's HD. And with Wiimote support.

But that was for teh familiez! This is for teh hardc0rez! :(

Just found out about this. Exclusive for Wii U!? WHAT!? Holy shit this is a gamechanger, at least for "core" gamers or whatever the fuck you want to call us. Good on Nintendo!

Let's not pretend this tension doesn't brook both ways. While some people have been unreasonably aggressive, others (who may be more amenable to Nintendo) clearly smell blood in the water and have deliberately provoked confrontation, knowing what the outcome would be (read: lots of bans).

That isn't directed at anyone in particular, and it is hasn't been so straightforward and obvious that I can ban for it (or I would have), but it's a clear undercurrent of the thread. There are some people who are relishing this coup by Nintendo and who are goading others in to bad behavior.

I guess your flamebaiting posters must have taken a day off, then?

It's not being published by Sega anymore, what more evidence do you want? If they have the intention of supporting the IP they would've been the publisher. They obviously have no faith and/or interest in PG games

what is Bayonetta , Vanquish, Madworld, Infinite Space ... ???

Sega , the only compagnie to do a partenership with pg when capcom fired clover studio
no other compagny, want take risque to do that

when sega help Platinums and publish their game, bayonetta, vanquish ... nintendo fans say its average, when its nintendo, its awesome

bitch world

without sega, Platimums never release and do know the first bayonetta (ip belongs to sega), vanquish ...

Kamiya was very grateful to sega for that.

its maybe why he not produce the wii u episode

PS/ sega release Bayonetta 2 if the first platinums games sold very well but the players boycot Vanquish, an awesome game
and sega was in big financial diificulty , do a restructuration

I just skimmed through a couple of random pages that were posted in the flurry since I left yesterday. I should say that was a sad read.

If Itagaki hasn't found a publisher yet, why not?

Make it happen Nintendo :D

Itagaki X Nintendo?

I'd rather see him direct hardcore japanese teen XXX movies.

I'd rather see Nintendo publish a yearly Platinum title.
Oh, and Bayonetta 3 should write like this Bayonetta <3

Who are these Nintendo fans who said that previous works of Platinum have been average?

Sega is in no condition to fund Platinum anymore. They're a company that's having trouble with even getting Anarchy Reigns out right now.

next week, in videogam magazine

for realz?

Bayo 2 a 2013 release?
Must have been pretty deep in production when Sega dumped it.
Summer release please. No need to compete with XBOX 720 and the autumn games deluge. Nor should too much time be spent on touchscreen use.

Lazy toilet Bayo 2 session > anything PG can do with a touch screen.
Post sex lazy bed Bayo 2 session > anything PG can do with a touch screen.

I'm up for this. I don't know how great the relationship between both parties is though. Itagaki seems to be more of a Microsoft man.

Nintendo is best buddies with Tecmo Koei, so I'm going to guess they probably won't work with Itagaki.

Unfortunately it's been confirmed that WiiU isn't backwards compatible with GC games. If I were you, I would get a cheap Wii post-WiiU launch. I remember seeing GAME selling preowned Wiis with Rayman Origins for £52.99 (about $85), so they should be really cheap in 12 months time.

Meh, Nintendo should eventually release gamecube games on the Wii U virtual console. In fact, I do remember talk of them wanting to release gamecube titles on the VC since the Wii U will not be backward compatible with it. The Wii U does make the Wii redundant so if he's not patient, he should try to find an old gamecube. :P

I think the status quo theory is an extreme exaggeration. I think its a lot simpler than that. More along the lines of core gamers, the audience this game is geared toward, doing the wide majority of gaming on one system regardless of how many they own. They love a game they've played on their primary game system and how its sequel is exclusive to a platform they likely don't have any interest in buying or playing. They won't be able to consolidate their gaming to one system/account if they buy this game because it will require the purchase of a $300 console to play ONE GAME.

And as far as the stance of "people are mad its on wiiu even though they weren't going to buy the game anyway" could easily be inverted to "people already intending to buy a wiiu don't see what the big deal is".

I don't plan on buying either but can understand the frustrations. I cannot understand all this fighting though. This happens every time a game goes exclusive.

My only issue is calling out platinum on saying that their focus on a single platform somehow equates to expanding their audience for Bayonetta...

This thread is absolutely amazing, never thought this announcement would have such an impact. It also makes me a bit scared to associate myself with the gaming culture.

Umm not really, not everyone that see's the issue are currently planning to buy a wii u. It's simply how contracts works. Platinum games, as a studio was almost dead output wise due to Sega publishing deal collapse. True fans of the game series should be happy they're now doing well.

From an outsider perspective the reaction is clearly illogical regardless how you slice it. It's simply how life and business works. It wasn't even an underhanded business move.

I know the feeling. I actually feel shame that I loved Bayonetta so much, to see this type of reaction...

words from minami,hashimoto and kamiya-san

On September 13, 2012 Bayonetta 2 was announced as an exclusive title under development for the Wii U during the Nintendo Direction presentation held on the same day.
As game developers, we are incredibly excited to be able to announce a new title to all of our fans; however, we are aware that the announcement may have come as a shock to many of you.
As with Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 is under development and production here at PlatinumGames, and is a true sequel to the acclaimed first game in the series. Bayonetta is one of our most beloved titles, and it played a large part in establishing PlatinumGames as an emerging game studio in the minds of users worldwide. Bayonetta has fans the world over, and we would never dream of alienating them from participating in the future of PlatinumGames.
That being said, the console games market is in a state of upheaval, so establishing a new game franchise requires a considerable amount of will, determination, and love. Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with SEGA, the previous game’s publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo.
Along with their new hardware, Nintendo, as a company, is dedicated to establishing a new future for the games industry, as you can tell by their record of passionate support for gaming. Alongside Nintendo, we hope to grow the Bayonetta brand beyond where it stands today, allowing even more gamers around the world to experience the action of our beloved witch. As developers, we are working hard to make this a reality.
We hope that you will look forward to what we have in store.

Tatsuya Minami
President & CEO, PlatinumGames Inc.

I’m Yusuke Hashimoto, director of Bayonetta 2. It has been three years since Bayonetta, a title I was also a part of… I’m incredibly happy to be able to announce that we are working on a sequel. Alongside Bayonetta’s creator, Hideki Kamiya, I’m working on everything from creating a compelling world to character designs (I will be designing the enemies again), and everyone on our talented team is united around the core of Bayonetta, Climax Action, in an effort push the series forward. For empowering our heroine with incredible new action to introducing new characters (which you may have noticed in the teaser trailer), Bayonetta will further expand on the mythology of the Trinity of Realities – Inferno, Paradiso, and our human world. I can’t wait to take the journey with you.

Yusuke Hashimoto
Director, Bayonetta 2

After Bayonetta was released, I was coming back on the bullet train with Yusuke Hashimoto, pondering various ideas for sequels or spin-offs to Bayonetta over a beer. I never thought we’d actually get to announce a sequel to her story, so I am absolutely over the moon.
Even though there has been a bit of a gap since the release of the last game, but I still got lots of request for a sequel from gamers. We were secretly making one the entire time. While I am not the director of this game, I am still supervising the world, story, characters, etc. in close coordination with Hashimoto, and I have been from the very beginning. You have nothing to work about on that end. And of course, plenty of members from the first Bayonetta are on-board and working hard under the direction of Hashimoto, so I look forward to work every day, coming in and seeing all the progress they have made on the game. With new hardware, we look forward to expanding on the Climax Action of Bayonetta, so sit tight and get ready!

Hideki Kamiya
Supervisor, Bayonetta 2
Director, Bayonetta

What's most amazing about that Twitter meltdown is how most people are not entitled 12 year olds.

Well it does confirm my bias about the mental capacity of people using Twitter.

I don't really understand, you start your post saying you disagree but then the contents of the post pretty much agree with what Opiate was saying.

I'm not arguing against that though, or the business part. I agree. But to say that "business is business" doesn't mean people aren't allowed to be sad or frustrated with said business decision.

Also, people aren't saying "I don't like that platinum games is doing well now". They are saying "it sucks that its only coming to wiiu". Its a clearly defined argument that is getting out of control because people are trying to make the issue about something else.

I'm not defending WHAT *everyone* is saying here, only the core issue itself. The exclusivity to a new platform and the understandably let down group of people.

It's complete bullshit that any sort of statement had to be made. Anyone calling themselves a fan of Platinum or Bayonetta and then complaining about their "favored" franchise being saved can go jump in an active furnace. They don't deserve an explanation for something so self explanatory, nor for making a decision where literally everyone wins.

I want to ask if some of these people on twitter, etc would prefer if it came to wii u or just not exist at all (because really, those were the only two possibilities), but I assume I already know the answer
