Psy's Gangnam Style Music Video

I don't know, I've had it pumping in through Spotify for like 15 minutes now while browsing the web and doing shit. Song's addictive.

Yeah but you've seen the video though. If you never saw the video, you wouldn't "get it"

I heard the song, then heard the video. But yeah, the video made it even better, but the song was a fucking jam the second I heard it for the first time. Just really fun, and this is from someone who doesn't usually care about any non English speaking music. (I'm sorry, I know there's good non-English music, as evidence by this, I just don't know where to start.)

Psy finding success says nothing about K-Pop as a whole. Psy is pretty damn awesome and he really got here on his own through his own creativity. He wasn't manufactured like most of the rest of the K-pop scene.

thats the sense that i get. this is the only psy song/video i know but he really comes off as a creative dude. unlike the rest of the k pop ive seen which is just some cheesy boy/girl band shit.

It has been almost 20 years since another foreign language song swept America like this. The Macarena. It makes sense that Gangnam Style and the Macarena have a lot in common:

1. Both are catchy
2. Both have easy to replicate dance moves
3. Both are in a foreign language ( to most of America )
4. Both are pop songs.

And just as the Macarena did, this song will be overplayed everywhere until we're all sick of it. A lot of you are already sick of it.

It would be awesome if Tablo could make it out here in the US. Dude raps perfect English, nobody has to know he's Korean.

This song made me realize that I'm much more of an anime weaboo than I'm willing to admit because I thought the song said "Gundam Style". *facepalm*

Say what you want but the guy kills it live in no way another K-Pop artist can. Saw NBC video from New York, now contrast this to ABYSMAL SNSD performance on Letterman Show.

So any other k-pop stars/groups that might be big outside of Korea in the future? I wonder who will be the next one.

Just started hearing about this song a few days ago. Finally listened to it. Twice. (Once last night. once this morning.)

Wut?

I wasn't moved at all. I found it only annoying. What is going on?

There's a large K-Pop event, lots of different groups at one event, that's been touring Europe for the past couple of years. Really big in France, so much so there's been a surge in people learning Korean.

Or do you mean America when you say "outside of Korea"?

Yeah I ment America. This will make North Americans more aware of K-pop. I think we are tired of the crappy pop music here. PSY is really fun to listen so I can see why everyone would love him.

PSY and Super Junior just got nominated at the MTV EMA.

i dont think thats happening. this is a one time thing probably.

PSY is a bit different. They guy has that personality, and I admit I never listened to all of his stuff outside of Champion and Right Now, but the guy has that flair. Many of his old songs can be "remade" in English and be successful here in the states, they have good beats, and now people know who he is.

I mean, look at his mocking of Lady Gaga and Beyonce. The guy can entertain. He'll be successful, and the only one, because frankly, much of the rest of K-pop kinda sucks.

Yup pretty much all this. I wouldn't mind hearing remade english versions if they are good.

Oh yeah his older albums are on iTunes now.

2NE1 are making an English album that's produced with will.i.am. I'm not saying that's a good thing but if anyone has a chance it'll probably be them.

Don't know about SNSD on Letterman but please...what about no...

A lot of others k-pop artists have personality...you guys shouldn't judge groups only on their videos or because of an appearance on american tv...plenty of korean variety show to see with idols in it that are really funny, just a month ago Super Junior have hosted an entire episode of SNL Korea for example.
but Super Junior are different than any other boyband, no other idol will ever do what they do in variety

Holy shit, I think I heard this song at least 40 times this past weekend at NDK (anime convention @ Colorado). The night parties were bonkers (the rave had everyone on the event room dancing to it), and you would see at least every other hour a group of random people just busting out to this song on the main lobby.

I think I'm getting sick of it at this point. :lol

I'm judging it by his actions in concerts, how his fans (in huge numbers at that) adore him, his appearances on Korean TV shows, his "look", and how he has handled his new found expansion of success. He's also educated in music, does his own thing, knows how to make good beats, fun songs in general.

Can't say that about most if not all the other kpop artists.

He stands out. He's the Korean Michael Jackson.

Was to two school parties this weekend and every time Gangnam style came on (probably more frequently than any other song), the whole room started doing the dance. It was awesome.
