Mother Jones: "Romney Tells Millionaire Donors What He REALLY Thinks of Obama Voters"

Interesting Yahoo poll, 48% said they are now more likely to vote for him. About 25% each for negligible effect and less likely to vote. Obviously far from scientific, but hopefully this doesn't somehow end up helping. Obama had a horrible fuckup like this four years ago and don't think it hurt him.

Tried arguing that, didn't get past stubborn repetitions of "its still the government saying 'pay for other people or we will throw you in jail for tax evasion'" This is a girl I used to date.

Good news, the government can't put her in jail for not paying that fine. The most they can do is write a strongly worded letter... Or I think take it out of returns.

I wonder if his is actually a turning point. I can't see his support dwindling nationally below 45, but we'll see. It's not quite close enough to the election.

Some states are already participating in early voting (most notably Virginia and North Carolina). Clock started ticking almost a week after the DNC. The more time he spends talking over these issues the more votes are cast in the mail and thus the harder it will be for him to make up any ground.

The better question to me is, I thought the Northeast was pretty liberal. How the fuck did Romney even GET to be Governor of Massachusetts?
During the early 90s he tried to convince people he was a Republican who had some Democrate policies. It didn't work out so well: lost to Ted Kennedy handily in the 1994 election for Mass Senate.

Romney has been the type of politician to change his position, even on the same day, to win over voters for decades. I don't see him as a man with principles.

Maybe this is Romney's "the fundamentals of our economy are strong."

(McCain, Sept. 2008 and the day he lost the election IMO)

Yeah I mean McCain himself, maybe 10 years younger, would have made a pretty good GOP presidential candidate with a reasonable running mate. But up against Obama after the terrible GWB years, he didn't stand a chance, Palin or not.

Let's not act like the McCain of 08 was anything like the McCain of 10 years ago politics wise. He threw away his maverick title, and unlike some predicted, has continued to be a stooge since losing.

Looks like Romney is going to triple down on Fox this afternoon...

This doesn't really make sense to me, aside from the fact that they'll high five him for knocking liberals. He basically just insulted Obama supporters, what's going on Fox going to do to change the perception of that?

I keep seeing this interpreted as "Romney insults middle class" but I don't see him do that anywhere in the video. I just see the usual right wing red meat of "the left are dirty hippie commie poors, not like us rugged individual successful responsible conservatives."

Not really sure how it directly impacts his chances in the broader sense except to maybe make him look kinda meaner in the every-single-republican-is-like-this kind of way. In fact this was the first time I started to believe he genuinely was a Republican in the modern sense, and not just some guy who grew up in the party.

I wonder if Romney has any idea just how fucked he truly is, or if he's so surrounded by yes men that the message never gets to his level.

Maybe so, but even McCain of 08 is light years ahead of fucking Mittens.

The fact of the matter is that everyone is entitled to food. Everyone.

I'm hardly some hardcore left-winger, but if you're a living human being, you are entitled to food. Anyone who doesn't believe that is a heartless piece of shit.

Which is such a stupid line of thinking, seeing as though we already subsidize the non-insured through horribly inflated hospital costs.

Bertram I think I'm falling for you with these posts.

We toss around nearly $16 trillion dollars in this economy every year. It's insane that any of our 310 million people go hungry with that kind of wealth floating around.

Mitt Romney´s campaign has been like an Igloo in the desert. Every time the sun shines and he opens his mouth, the igloo starts melting. His campaign is a melting pot for disastrous political campaigning.

I imagine that every single person working for this campaign will leave this experience off of their resume. :P

The food thing really gets to me, having grown up on a farm.

If you can't afford food, I absolutely support the government helping you get a decent meal.

Food is not a privilege. Fuck anyone who thinks otherwise.

And here we go. Dot gif.

From the look of this... Alaska is already cut off!

It doesn't even have to go to morality arguments study after study has shown that food stamps are the consistently the surest form of stimulus one study even said that for every $1 spent in food stamps the economy gets up to $1.20 in benefit. That's a fools deal not to take you help the economy and help the hungry

Yeah this should be pretty common sense in the 21st century. Maybe if your name is John Smith, and you're trying to motivate a group of colonists to farm, the opposite sentiment could be expressed, but certainly not in a country where structural unemployment is built into the economic system and where we've largely eliminated food scarcity within our own borders.

He's not that fucked. Most people don't change their vote over every gaffe and news tragedy. Most of them never even hear about them. What he says is true both ways - there are people who will never vote for him, and there are almost as many who will never vote for Obama. There's like a 3% difference in the popular vote - within the margin of error - and that's with Obama still coming down off his convention bounce.

Basically it comes down to like 6 swing states, and whether he can move the needle in enough of them (he probably can't). But there's still time for some crazy event to happen that hurts Obama, so all he can do is keep flailing away and pretending none of these gaffes ever happened, because they're almost always forgotten in 2 weeks anyway.

Yeah, Bob Dole wasn't a fuck up or anything, he was just old, and running against a popular incumbent, and it just felt from the get-go like the whole election was just a formality. And Dole getting to run felt like a end-of-career honor, like he was getting inducted into a hall of fame or something, but it seemed pretty universally understood that he had no possible chance of winning.

oh jeeze, this story is blowing up even more than I thought it would. It's EVERYWHERE. best haedline: "Mitt Romney calls 47% of americans freeloaders".

I don't see how anyone could possibly hold any ill will towards Bob Dole. He gave us the best boner medicine commercials

I don't think he's fucked at all really.

24 hours from now, Rush and his festering ilk will have circled the wagons and rallied the base, thus mitigating the damage done. When all the conservative pundits and such rally around him tomorrow it'll turn into another 'He said, She Said' for the rest of the mainstream media.
Just as what happened with the embassy riots.

Romney will absolutely still be damaged by this, though. I just don't think it's going to prove catastrophic. A LOT of right wingers believe exactly what he said, damn the actual facts.

Romney's problem isn't the base (although it actually kind of is)

It's the swing voters who are going to absolutely be repelled by this

The damage will come through that coveted 10% Mitt is trying to court.

As someone who would typically consider myself part of that group (though I decided not to support Mitt ages ago), I find such callousness repulsive.

Wouldn't it be nice if every real news outlet in the US highlighted exactly where that 47% come from?

Obama would have to sign a declaration stating all white babies should be killed to not get re-elected. It's over

Unfortunately for Romney, the other 53% of the country isn't just the right wing base. There's the 10% of Independents he was referring to in this video and this damn sure hurt his chances with them.

In reality, there's probably nothing outside of a drunken "fuck America" rant that's going to change voters minds. We pretty much already knew this is what the GOP Elite thought anyways, and frankly, its a message that unfortunately resonates with a lot of America that doesn't like the idea of helping anyone but themselves.

Its Obama's election to lose. All he has to do is play it cool at the debates.

I foresee Romney at the debates standing with his butt perked out, shoulders forward, and smirking like a corporate raider who just profited from outsourcing 10,000 jobs.

I attended a lecture by one of the preeminent GOP spin masters who coaches these people to evade questions and answer with weasel words and sat back and wondered why people eat this crap up... I came to the conclusion that while some of the population dislikes "intellectual elitists", the more you sound like you elegantly replied, the content of the answer is ignored amidst the pretty bows and wrapping it is contained within.

you're trying too hard, man.
