Psy's Gangnam Style Music Video

Influential among artists perhaps, but I can't find anything that suggests they've had a single as successful as Sukiyaki.

I guess it also depends on your perspective. This was a single track that was a hit, whereas YMO had several tracks that were very popular, though none quite so much as Sukiyaki, and they were hugely influential in the music scene.

I just heard about this song two days ago and I am so confused. 260million views+?

Is this the most viewed video in youtube history now?

PSY's Gangnam Style is at 267mil right now and doing about 10 mil views per day. It will pass Call Me Maybe (268mil) vid today. Should hit 300 mil before September ends. Depending how well it does in October, it might make it to #3 if it continues having 10mil views per day. Even if it slows down and only does half of views that it's doing now per day (10mil) it should at least hit #9 in Oct.

It deserves #1!

Psy had this to say about making new single for the U.S.

“My future plan in America is to either release a new single, or release an album that includes a new single. They told me the American music market moves a lot from Thanksgiving to Christmas, so they asked me to make an album for the end of November. But it’s hard to finish an album by then. I’m looking over releasing my own songs.”

He reported that Universal Republic Records wanted him to keep singing in Korean. Psy expressed, “I’m thankful. They said they don’t understand what it means, but that Korean is nice and full of flavor. But we can’t just hurry through this process of making it because it’s my debut album, so we’re thinking of many styles. I think the album will come out in mid or late November. The second single that will come out will probably be in English.”

He also hinted that he may have a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York. “I went to a Korean club with Scooter Braun and Usher, and it came up because we were all in a good mood. But Braun couldn’t remember that he said it the day after. In any case, we promised to have a concert even if it was accidentally announced. But at the moment there aren’t any confirmed venues.”

I'm curious to see if he could actually pull off another hit single as this one wasn't even intended to blow up like this over here in the states. I don't get how they plan to do this especially if they want him to sing in Korean. Let's hope he does well and doesn't fall into obscurity like most of these one hit wonders.

Hopefully he sticks to his roots and doesn't try to Westernize his music. That failed big time for Girls Generation. Stick with what got you to the dance.

they played this on the radio last night, shocked me but i am so glad they arent playing some edited/translated version, it would totally kill it

Yeah, it'll be tricky, but I'd just basically advise him to make a few songs in English and throw in a few English lines in the Korean songs.

He should keep his style the same besides that.

I think PSY can pull it off. He's made really good music in the past:

Right Now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmHdefsaL6I

It's Art: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZiWExRZlO4

Korea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpYq1lSce1U

Though he has to make a song that's easy to sing along for non Koreans like with he's Gangnam song.

Anyways still going strong Worldwide in itunes top 10 songs charts.

Fuck man, I heard this song playing last night on Miami's biggest urban radio station.

It's insane to me that a song with no English translation/version is mashing US radio stations of all types.

nope, but i read an article where it is the Most Liked in YouTube history.
yep, 1.2 mil likes ahead of the previous most liked vid.

also, it's currently the 18th most viewed video on youtube.

Not really. There are so many songs on the radio that you can't make out the lyrics to that people are starting to not care. Kanye (Mercy) - I'm looking in your direction.

Meanwhile in the UK (and note that non-English songs simply do not sell at all here):
Maybe it's because it's on the B list for Radio 1. On the overall chart, it was 16th as of Wednesday, and it's going to be interesting how well it does comes the full chart tomorrow (although I doubt that it's going to top The Script x will.i.am). Point is, this is the most popular song that's not in English over here for years.
It's also getting played on Kiss Fm and MTV dance etc. So many people are talking about it too, both at work and Uni for me.
