I don't think you understood his question. Credit card companies charge merchants a fee for each transaction. I doubt all of that $1.00 tip is going to the employees - chances are a portion of it is being paid to Visa/Mastercard/etc.
10% on the dollar, maybe.
Generally speaking credit card companies charge at least 1 dollar for every transaction. This is why you'll see a lot of small businesses (especially asian restaurants on the east coast) refusing anything but cash.
