The Netflix Recommendation Thread of Dope Movies

Commercials in movies? Fuck that. That's nonsense. That's some Crackle bullshit.

The commercials aren't in the movies actually. But I still don't think their Criterion selection is that attractive, the major works in it are sometimes on Netflix anyway, and I already have a backlog of criterions physically and a huge netflix queue.

Bride Flight - A romantic drama that charts the lives of three women from different backgrounds, forever changed when they emigrate to New Zealand as war brides.

Excellent movie. One description is a Dutch film set in New Zealand. Excellent acting and script.

From Prada To Nada- A Latina spin on Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility," where two spoiled sisters who have been left penniless after their father's sudden death are forced to move in with their estranged aunt in East Los Angeles.

A good movie. Two good actresses. A well worn story but the writing and acting are good.

Some stuff coming on October 1st, including some James Bond movies as well as new seasons of 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, and The Office:

Damn, Act Of Valor is coming? Been wanting to see that. Also, that movie "The Tall Man" is coming too. That seems awfully soon, I remember seeing a trailer for that some time ago. It had to have been a couple of months, don't even remember it hitting theaters.

I watched Exit Humanity last night based on GAFs rec, very cool! The first zombie in the swamp looked amazing, seems they spent all their effects budget on that one though as none of the other zombies looked as good but regardless it was an awesome zombie flick.

My Way is fucking awesome! Watch it now!

Sold. Watching it now.

Been watching various stuff, but nothing has really been grabbing me.

Except for 60 Dead Men Walking. Really fantastic story about IRA during 1988ish. Ben Kingsley, Jim Sturgess, Rose Mcgowan.

London Boulevard was alright, although I personally don't like the actors. Colin Farrell, Keira Knightley.

Stupid funny Mel Brooks movies High Anxiety and To Be or Not to Be are also up. Dracula Dead and Loving it is up as well, nice combo of Brooks and Leslie Nielsen.

I watched some indie movies on nf last night. This one movie named mad world is fucking nuts. Starts out like a poor ass teen movie and then shit just goes crazy.

I checked this out. I must say it was pretty good. Kind of low budget and a little too much overacting but, overall it was worth the watch. Thanks for the rec.

Sort of off-topic...but Fox just released an Xbox 360 app that allows you to watch new episodes of their shows the day after they air. Currently requires a Dish Network or Fios account (work with sub-accounts so you can mooch off your friends and family if you are a cord cutter like me).

Even more reason not to bother with Hulu+ if you don't care about the Criterion stuff.

Ricky Gervais has no need to fear offending viewers of traditional American television with his latest series, because it won’t be broadcast there: Netflix said on Wednesday that it had acquired the rights to show “Derek,” a new comedy program written, directed by and starring Mr. Gervais, following its run on Channel 4 in Britain.

On “Derek,” Mr. Gervais, a creator and star of comedies like “The Office” and “Extras,” and a three-time host of the Golden Globe Awards, plays its title character, a naively simple man who works in a nursing home. The show also features Karl Pilkington, a regular on Mr. Gervais’s radio show and podcasts, and the star of the travel series “An Idiot Abroad.”

A pilot episode — which stirred up some concern that the Derek character was mocking disabled people, and which Mr. Gervais refuted, saying the character was not disabled — was shown in Britain in April, and drew about 2 million viewers for Channel 4, leading to a full series order. Netflix said it will make “Derek” available some time next year.

Haha love this movie, think it's coming the first.

I've started watching The League and it's pretty funny. The only thing that puts me off is how much more attractive the women are than the men. Doesn't make sense to me.

Better off Ted is my Firefly. I will go the grave cursing those who caused its early demise. Love, love, love that show.

Well put, I think I agree with you. I'm really hoping Better Off Ted can come back a la Arrested Development. It's such a intelligent, hilarious, charming show. People seriously don't know a good thing when they see it.

Saw Brick and watching 12 Monkeys before they're removed from Netflix...but looking at the list for next month, looks like some good stuff's being added (Bond, Mulholland Drive, Walking Dead S2...) so yeah, good times ahead for this college student!

We still subscribe to both DVD and streaming so I might see something different than streaming-only customers see. If I click "Your Queue" on the red banner at the top of the page, I see our DVD queue. If I then click the "Instant" tab, I see our instant queue.

Edit: Here's the link for the Instant queue tab:

Thanks, it looks like they fixed it because the Instant tab disappeared and I could only see my dvd queue.

I couldn't force myself get through Detachment. Just way too depressing for me to handle.

Lunopolis was a pretty good mockumentary about some really far-out moon conspiracies. I thought it was well done. If I had tuned into it on TV I might think it was a real documentary for a bit. Definitely worth watching if you like things like Mysterious Universe podcast or Ancient Aliens.
