Great answer, but terrible debate for both if just because the moderator was fucking unbelievable.

I'd give Romney the edge, but meh.

As much as it hurts to admit, Romney did surprisingly well. Obama has to prepare pointing out Romney's flipflopping and lying and vagueness more obviously. He started getting better towards the end, but was way too vague.

It's like Romney is just shotgunning stuff and hoping something sticks. I swear he's corrected himself not to offend people a bunch of times.

The leaks from his campaign this past week stated that this would be exactly his plan. Looks like they were right. Short on facts, big on BS.

Romney is hilarious. The only way his tax plan is deficit neutral is if it massively cuts other govt programs. Yet when confronted on said cuts, says no-no I won't cut that popular thing. Effectively, his tax plan WILL explode the deficit..

His tax plan is built on results of things that don't exist, so you can't say it will increase taxes on the middle class because it magically won't. It's everything you want, it's everything i want, and if you say otherwise, you're a liar.

Romney won. But both sucked. Disappointing.

I agree. Romney definitely had the better 90 mins imho, but a large part of that is that the format doesn't really reward facts, or in depth analysis. Rather, the format asserts body language, speaking skills, etc. Its a shame. I really wanted more on Wall Street "reform" because a lot of the rhetoric about said "reform" is terrifying to me. I really don't think these 90 minutes will have much of an outcome, but Romney definitely made more of an impression on me- which for what its worth doesn't mean much.

Maybe Obama just needs more sleep or something. Really needs to wake up next time. I don't get why he didn't call out some of mitts blatant lies.

We'll see if anyone'll factcheck Romney... that'll take some of the steam out of his delivery. Bams was Bams. Fine at times, and too rote/long-winded/professorial at others. Hopefully, he got the rust out and he'll be more up for it in the next two debates to come.

Obama just didn't try hard enough to work with the party that holds 30 ceremonial votes to repeal one of your biggest accomplishments!

Didn't think Romney was horribad as GAF believes.

I did not either, but he didn't win at the level that he needed to to really move the needle. He came across as confident, passionate, and not a complete moron. But he also came across as someone who didn't really have a plan - just a lot of ideas.

i'd like to think that obama's performance is part of some strategy meant to protect his lead, otherwise..... just awful. romney is running laps around him.

they both were mediocre, but Romney clearly performed a little stronger. I feel like we're feeding a narrative simply because expectations were so low, but I think even if expectations were static we'd reach the same conclusion. Obama rambled a little too long, didn't take the clear hits when they were available to him (47%, flip-flopping, hitting back on the 716b), and even though he remains looking cool and presidential, ultimately was not convincing altogether.

Romney clearly rehearsed his answers hard, and it shows by the way he was comfortable delivering his one-two punches, but he was also evasive, rude and awkward at times. That said, he passed the "looks presidential" bar and will gain a few points in the polls before the race stabilizes again. But he needs a game changer... it is clear now, there was no game changer.

Romney came out far stronger than I thought in the debate. Obama treading super carefully and not being direct.

Disappointed about the debate, especially topics and moderation.

he wasn't but if you were following the politics Romney was spewing during his run up to being the republican candacy. He basically just did a 360 on a lot of the policies he was promoting or pretending to have. I honestly still have no idea how he's going to accomplish any of his set goals by doing what he says. Closing loop holes will not solve the deficit with out cutting military spending and cutting federal funding with out raising taxes

Dammit Obama, my family is celebrating right now talking about how great Romney is. :(

If that's the case there was nothing Obama could have said to change their minds. People like that on either side are simply cheerleaders for their party.

from twitter:

Romney's smirk looks like a sentient Fleshlight getting a begrudging kick out of "Guys With Kids."

Spending a lot of time trying to decode Mitt's obvious morse code blinks but they don't make sense! What's "KILLP OORP EOPLE" ???

What the fuck, you get to choose what position you get to go? If you win the coin toss, you go. None of this strategic bullshit, gotdamn. This is a debate, not a football game.
