Well, I have never seen Obama look so flustered and unprepared. That was a slaughter. Guaranteed this debate is going to be positioned as a win for Romney.

And the sad thing is it didn't have to be. Romney was being vague and flat out lying through most of that debate, but he got away with it because he spoke aggressively, passionately, confidently and, most importantly (and take notes for next time, Obama), Romney spoke CONCISELY. Obama's got my vote and I believe that based on what was presented he's got the better approach to the topics discussed, but damn not even I can deny that he came off as a blubbering idiot next to Romney tonight. Even his good moments were hampered by uhhs and excessive pauses.

I mean, damn, I was screaming at my screen when Romney mentioned grading schools as a primary incentive to improve performance. Completely ridiculous idea that completely disregards the reality that many Americans (particularly inner-city Americans) who don't have the option to easily switch their children's schools face. "Oh, the high school in our neighborhood got an F? Guess you're going to Fucking Failure High since I can't afford to ship you off to a better private school or forge an address so you can go to a better school in a better neighborhood. Sorry, Susie."

THERE was the perfect opportunity for Obama to be aggressive and EMBARRASS Romney with how out-of-touch his idea was...but he just stood there and chuckled to himself.

The entire debate was awful, but Obama wasn't even present.

Romney has hope after tonight. I don't think Obama will end up winning NC or VA. Florida race will tighten and would not shock me to hear 3 weeks later that Ohio is in play again.

Wow, even Obama surrogates saying he did great but needed a gamechanger. Geeze, this is like fall back behind the ninth line of defense...

Obama forgot to change into his campaign form, apparently. And he ended weak.

But I feel like Romney's "cute rabbits and fluffy kittens" hucksterism was on full display the whole time. He was on the offensive, yes, an effective tactic in his situation, but he was doing it by playing fast and loose with the facts in a very unconvincing way.

At the end of it though... most people will see him as the strong one, and his claims will become true because of that.

You guys love declaring winners and losers in a debate because it's like taking sides or supporting sports teams or something.

The reality is that there was nothing in this debate that really is likely to swing votes one way or another IMO.
That's not true... CNN had this graph running that tracked the response of some pool of derpy "undecideds" in real time. The only interesting element was that the graph had separate lines for men and women. The female line was virtually always higher when Obama spoke, and the male line when Romney spoke. And that was completely intentional. Those windy digressions about individual voters sell well to the female part of the electorate. The fast talking, take charge attitude sells better to the men.

What I don't understand is why Obama absolutely used NONE of the obvious attacks?

Bain, 47%, hitting back on the 716b, the flip-flopping, etc etc... he kept literally almost every one of the big campaign narrative attacks in his quiver. Why? There were several opportunities where Mitt Romney literally opened himself to these attacks, and... nothing.

Obama has got to be being coached on attacking for the next debate.

Why use all your ammo so soon?

Obama was gutless tonight, exactly like I predicted Romney was going to shock everyone an crush Obama
If I was a Romney supporter I'd be very happy at his performance tonight.

But I still wouldn't know how the fuck any of his math adds up, what exemptions are going away and what would be kept, what his healthcare plans would involve, how his vouchers wouldn't keep people out in the cold, or how he'd regulate Wall Street.

All I know is that PBS would be fucked ;P

Holy shit, I just switched from PBS Newshour to MSNBC and they are melting down. Lol.

I'm an Obama supporter, but even PBS Newshour is giving it to Romney. Even The New York Times guy said Romney was better. The PBS impression was that Obama was too rusty, too much of a policy wonk and that he didn't call out Romney enough for his bullshit.

You guys need to calm the fuck down. Jesus, relax.

seriously, rofl.

Mittens didn't say anything different from what we don't already know about him. He's a suit with no policies drifting through the wind. Give the American people more credit than that.

Obama didn't mention the 47 percent comment? Oh fuck Obama is weak!

Anyone watching the univsion stream, who do they think won?

The undecided "independent" voters in the Univision focus panel are saying Romney won. One guy said the media has been portraying Romney as a millionaire out of touch with the middle class, but this debate showed him a man who seems presidential and human. He's made up his mind, he's voting for Romney.

The problem is that you can't concisely refute so much garbage. What Obama needs to do more is keep harping on the fact that Romney does not give specifics and has no real plans.

Agreed. Romney won this debate. He will probably get a small bump from it. He needs waaaaaaaaaaaay more than a small bump in order to actually have a chance of winning. It's pretty much as simple as that.

Romney definitely won the debate tonight when it comes down to overall performance. Obama just didn't look like he was ready. Obama had quality facts and words and he sounds like a real person fighting for people, but in a television debate, being the louder person is what will win you it. He has to come out swinging next week or it'll be a long election day for him. He needs to speak a bit faster and more aggressively. He needs to call out Romney on his bullshit and his lies. Obama needs to tell the truth in the same aggressive, loud, passionate tone that Romney was as he spewed out his lies. He also needs to speak carefully and precisely... no more 'umm, 'ugh' and 'hmm'.

I fully expect Fox News and the Republicans to jump on this like crazy.

Damnit Obama, what the fuck? Not a good start.

Cnn fact checkers find that obama's claim that romney will cut taxes by 5 billion to be true but false since he will close loopholes.
Lolll i hate CNN and its fake Fairness

There were a lot of media studies during the Bush years showing that conservatives claim "liberal bias" so often that media would often report intentionally false things just so that each "side" was presently "evenly." It's most obviously evident in things like "evolution vs. creationism" or climate change, where all relevant facts point to one and not the other, but since one of the parties champions the likely false belief, they have to be presented 50/50 instead of the actual 95/5.
