So what, T'Challa just gonna hold that whole "flooding" thing in his chest? Just act like shit is cool so the Avengers can assemble and all that? Nah, b.

But yeah, I liked what Hickman set up for BP in FF, so I'm happy he gets to keep going with that. And the team does sound awesome.

Welp. Looks like I'm buying me some Avengers books.

Meh. Spidey can still tap that.

Panther? I doubt that. I am confident it's going to be nightmarish trying to get him to co-operate on a team with Namor on it. I'd love to see how they get him to accept being on the team.

if not 100%, then what was the percentage? how much control should one have on a situation before one is deemed responsible for the outcome? as for the future, well it isnt written in stone. the most minute of details can change everything. as for looking at ones roster. there are only two free rides on it. one of which was pure bullshit, the other im sure isnt trusted as much as before.

saying the P5 are entirely responsible or culpable is fine as long as responsibility is assigned to anyone under mind control or has been brainwashed and I bet the list is pretty long.

edit: looking at the New Avengers roster it seems like Namor is on the path of acceptance already.

In retrospect I kind of like how AvX set that up with Vision in #0. It's like "Yeah, I get it, but fuck you."

Did Captain America join the Illuminati at the end of that hood/infinity gems story that Bendis wrote in Avengers? I can't remember.

As for Namor and Black Panther, both Captain America and Reed Richards are on the team. I am sure they could convince those two to set aside differences if the looming threat was big enough.

Anyhow that's going to be a lot of power and brains on one team. I like the Alpha and Omega take on the New Avengers logo as well.

EDIT: It's clearer on the variant cover that Birdie posted:

Well, of course Panther isn't going to be buddy-buddy, but it seems weird he'd even agree to be on a team with him. But hey, this all probably gets addressed in Consequences or whatever, so I'll wait and see.

you are in for such a treat - i'm jealous that you get to read it all for the first time. i just sent the three books we're talking about to a few friends who are trying to get into the medium, so i'm happy to see you take the same path.

Sweet, thanks for the refresher. Before this, my X-Men knowledge was limited strictly to the 90's animated series.

I picked up the Omnibus versions for New X-Men & Astonishing and I'm hoping they do some OHCs or an Omnibus for UXF after Remender is done. Seems like I could be waiting a while, though.

I did look into some Apocalypse stuff after it was mentioned in New X-Men. Same with Kitty Pryde/Colossus, after the opening of Astonishing. Is there anything else I need to know?

You should be fine. If I were a betting man, I'd say we'll get a UXF omni within a year. I'd love that.

On a very personal note, keeping to the oversized format, from Astonishing I'd go: Messiah complex, X-Force 1, Messiah war, X-Force 2, Necrosha, Second coming for an X-Force centric path. You could throw in Nation X and Utopia X for good measure and context. That's what I did to catch up and overall, it was quite a ride.

peter parker gettin it in

nice

no, you should be straight - just don't google anything if you have questions. use context clues to figure stuff out... you don't want to spoil anything.

and honestly, while there are some good x-factor and other books inbetween whedon's AXM and remender's UXF, i think you should just stick to the ELITE books and then move on to other genres/publishers within the comic book medium. don't want to burn yourself out on a million issues of middle-tier books when there's a lot of brilliant stuff you should read first.

Unless Spider-Man is going polyamorous (which would help the cause, so go Spidey!), he belongs with Mary Jane.
All the rest is crazy fanfic.

He's a good guy. He knows he belongs with MJ, he mentioned that his love for MJ surpassed Gwen's (source: 4chan anon). The chemistry between Peter and MJ is great.

Though I know very little of what was happening, I thought this was a powerful 3 panel.

Yea, the Spider-Man Annual that Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca did before One More Day showed how great of a couple they were to me.

The worst part of the issue is the comic art laid over a picture of New York instead of just being an awesome spread.

I went on a bit of a shopping spree. On my desk right now, I have the Invisibles Omnibus, pretty much all of Morrison's Batman run, Simonson's Thor, both Claremont/Lee X-Men volumes, all of Y: The Last Man, and all of Ex Machina.

And that's on top of all the current books I'm reading. No worries about burning out on one thing, I think.

OK where is this from? Like issue or whatever.

Also, nobody wants THAT to happen.

Spider-Man & Black Cat – The Evil That Men Do #2 I believe. There was a Spider-Man appreciation thread on 4chan and anons just kept dumping pictures of their favorite moments.

What issue or run of Batman should I start with? I haven't nought a batman book since 1994. I hear Morrison is the bees knees with all the cool kids. Is it batman or detective comics that is the good one? How about all star?

Scott wasn't looking to host the Phoenix for himself. That was what the Avengers did. AvX constantly depicted the P5 not in charge of their actions 100% and the force amplifying their most negative attributes. Hell, Scott was the most in control until he was pushed over the edge.

What it boils down to is that , you can't blame the Phoenix 5 for their actions. If Cap believes the Phoenix 5 desere prosecution and they so do many other superheroes.

Anyway Scott, Emma et al. are gonna get their redemption arc , or everyone will forget about it, à la Iron man.

Wasn't he? If Scott DIDN'T want to have the Phoenix entirely under his control, why, oh why, did he RAISE HOPE FOR THAT SINGULAR PURPOSE? Let's look at this from outside the fact that this is Scott Summers for a minute.

You have a leader of a nation-state raising a young woman because of the immense power she wields/will wield in the near future, which he says will be using for the good of his people. Who does this sound like? EMPEROR GESTAHL AND TERRA BRANFORD.

Now let's go back to the fact that this is SCOTT SUMMERS and he KNEW what the Phoenix was capable of. In fact, given that Jean is presently not among the living, there is nobody who should know better the danger of the Phoenix than Scott. Not Logan, Xavier or Emma who have been hosts to it before.

Here's a brief recap, off the top of my head, of everything the Phoenix has done since it first bonded with Jean.

Saved the Universe by healing the M'Kraan Crystal.
Destroyed the D'Barri star, killing 6 billion people in a matter of minutes.
Killed Mastermind.
Killed Jean Grey no less than three times.
Turned Scott's second wife insane, causing her to almost kill his son, costing her life and every other part of the Inferno.
Destroyed countless star systems on its way back to earth.

So, why would Scott the thing which had ruined the life of two of his wives, had already proven too much for his current squeeze, and even his own daughter? Why would Scott give that to Hope if he didn't plan to use it to his own ends? I cannot honestly believe that the man who has lead the X-Men for years would actually will something like the Phoenix on a little girl without considering what he would do with that power at his disposal.

So even if he didn't want to be its host, Scott's plan was always, nakedly, to use the Phoenix for himself.

And I must protest for the umpteenth time the incorrect belief that the Phoenix 5 weren't responsible for what they did with that power. Jean was in control of the Phoenix until she went Dark Phoenix, and she had to deal with the ENTIRETY of its power. They each had a mere fifth of that power, so they, especially Emma who already has experienced being host to the ENTIRE Phoenix, should have been able to handle it. And even afterward, Jean accepted responsibility for what she did as Dark Phoenix. It would just be one more case of Scott pissing on her grave for him to claim he wasn't responsible for what he did as Dark Phoenix when he knows, first hand that someone who goes Dark Phoenix is still able to understand what they were doing.

Booo....no comics-gaf until tuesday since dcbs didn't ship my books out early enough to be delivered before the weekend.

:(

Having read the entirety of the 12 series, can you seriously claim that the Phoenix 5 were in complete control of their actions ? We can argue all day whether being host to the Phoenix compares to numerous other incidents which result in supers not acting out of their own voilition but Marvel editorial certainly intended them to be sympathetic

Scott associated the Phoenix with the reintroduction of Hope in his timeline and the reactivation of the x gene. Claiming that he nakedly wanted the power for himself to set himself up as a power hungry despot is laughable.

All Star Batman 4 lyfe.

Once Jim Lee decides to get off his ass and finish those issues (ahahahaa), I'm going to stop buying DC comics ever again because there ain't no topping that shit.

Krypt0nian, Action Comics 13 was so good.

Oh man it was! The main story was great (loved that panel with the sun) but the backup was just a series of brutally sweet emotional uppercuts and left me sniffling. So sweet, and well done to Solly Fisch for taking a sweet story and just adding a perfect cherry on top. Usually the backups leave me quite cold in Action but this was genuinely brilliant.

Also really dug Travel Foreman on the main, he can draw the shit outta some Krypton.

Oh man, All Star is fucking amazing but I would feel super guilty recommending it to a newbie
even though I did the very thing and bought it for a mate who loves super macho comics and he thought it was brilliant

I'd say go Year One for a good intro Frank Miller. Go Black Mirror for a great story. Go Morrison for the best story. Go Hush for meat and potatoes and the villains. Go No Man's Land for something different.

Go All Star to laugh your ass off.

Are we sure the Superior teaser is Spider-man?

Colors and title lean towards Magneto in my mind. Homo Superior/Metallic Purple colors etc.

The colors were Red and Blue, plus the creative team is basically the same as it is now. Plus its coming out in January after ASM finishes. Or Slott wasn't joking and it's really Superior Squirrel Girl.

Seems to be a very comfortable bet. Spidey's had metallic before so who knows if we'll see a wink to this:
