So guys, I just came across a sneak peek to BATMAN # 13 and though I knew I didn't really want to read them, I couldn't stop myself from checking them out. Damn, it truly seems that the whole Night of the Owls was just a warm-up and now shit is truly going to get real.

Yeah, detail; but detail on that outfit? Just comical. May as well draw the underwire supports to keep his mask in place while you're at it.

Just give them geriatric velcro shoes. :X

BKV's run on Runaways

Morrison always seems to have major missteps in the art, either in quality or in (IMO) inappropriate decisions: for example, Irving was great for Klarion in 7S but terrible for any of the modern/future parts of Return of Bruce Wayne.

John byrnes had plenty (and some ones with not so good art) jack kirby did 100 ff issues with fantastic art. Gene colan had 60 ish dracula issues. It actually used to be a lot more common.

I'd add Planetary and Whedon's Astonishing but I hear there are people who dislike Cassaday.

Edit: Hitch on Ultimates 1 and 2.
 
Mike Allred on X-Force/X-Statix had the greatest goddamn fill-ins ever. Darwyn Cooke, Paul Pope, Nick Dragotta, J. Bone, Philip Bond? Shit, son.

lol, I was there waiting too but in retrospect, these are all amazing books and when I'm reading a collected edition, I'd rather have one consistently great artist even if it meant waiting forfuckingever at the time the issues were published.

Also, while I'm not a huge fan of Oeming, props to him for being consistent on Powers.

(I guess Dave Sim wins at that game though)
 
That Wolverine cover is really cheesy indeed. Not sure if i'm checking it out since dcbs isn't running sales on the #1s on a book by book basis in favor of a giant bundle.

Cassaday sucks. Every face is a DAMN MESS. He didn't help with Whedon's hack writing either. Astonishing X-Men = overrated big time.
 
Well...at least he draws Wolverine with sleeves. Always hate those weird triangular points that must just be glued down to his arm.

Pretty much this.

I've been a Wolverine fan for years, but the best Marvel could do to him right now is take him out of circulation like they did with Thor.

2 or 3 years, then get someone who really cares about the character and start a new, fresh series.

WATX don't really need him that much.
 
if you're burnt out on wolvie, you're reading too many books. he's solidly written in uncanny x-force and the first 8 issues of watxm. dunno if he's in the next batch of promising books, though (uncanny avengers, new avengers, avengers)

Cool! I'll check out the books on that list as I've only read Scalped. Even with Scalped, certain fill-in arcs, like Shunka's, were very poorly drawn and quite hideous (I can't remember the artist offhand, but I loved that arc, hated that art).

In terms of Morrison's missteps, it seems to me that, judging by your example, it's a matter of personal preference, of personal taste, which is fine because it's your money/time that you're investing in these works. However, Irving's work for Klarion, with its sub-mta Puritanical community, and his work on issue 2 of ROBW, with Bruce travelling through a Puritanical epoch, parallel each other and, for me, form an obvious connection and explanation as to why Morrison would bring Irving on for ROBW. I'm looking over that issue now and I still love it, especially the forest scene with Annie.

And, if I'm misinterpreting your example and you're only speaking about the parts of the issue with Supes and crew at the Vanishing Point/Time Nexus, then yeah, some of the faces are downright goofy and elongated but the strangeness of it all, with the fuzzy time-keeper dude and the actual setting, are all handled well by Irving.
 
I was a fool to ever think there was potential for this book to be about anyone but wolverine. Even on the slightest chance. I guess I am just hungry for a new on-going of a character we don't see as often.

I promised myself that I would rule of 3 all of the marvel now books that are not being written by Jeph Loeb. Despite me being alright if they chose to do without this character for a while, I will check this out as well.

Wolverine was surprisingly level headed through the whole thing. Except that part in the beginning where he kept trying to stab Hope. Other than that, he was chill. Didn't even freak when his teaching staff went on the opposite side.

AvX ruined Uncanny X-Men for me. Not the plot so much, but the fact that the Unity line seemed to be dropped and I had no idea what happened from issue to issue. It seems odd that I would have to follow the crossover event in order to understand what is going on in the main monthly series. Things jumped like crazy in Uncanny X-men in order not to overlap with AvX, I am assuming. It is frustrating the way these events disrupt the normal readability of single books.

Earth One Superman was average to good, I thought.

Looking forward to Batman this week.

This, 100%. Marvel is so desperate to make him an Avenger first, X-Man second that they are literally turning him into an Avengers fanboy. Cap and the Avengers disrespect the fuck out of him - knock him out of a plane over the Arctic, put his school on lockdown, fight his staff, lock up the kids on Utopia and still he comes crawling back. What a total joke. RIP Wolverine.
 
Not really getting the Wolverine burn out. He is in as much if not less then Spidey and I don't think Marvel should sit their number one man on the bench for years on in.

Granted I wouldn't mind Wolverine being limited to WaTXM/Uncanny Avengers/X Force but I doubt that happens given how popular he is. Then again I don't hate it either.

My only true gripe is Wolverine being such a Cap fanboy. I mean respecting the man is one thing, but jesus. When Wolverine went and asked to have Omega and the way that played out was always weird. Not to mention it seemed to only get worse since Wolverine threatened Tony after Cap's "Death".
