The Player 1 Podcast Topic

Sorry, but taking what too seriously? My position on this is actually to take it more seriously. If you're under embargo then don't talk about that game. Especially don't tell me as a listener how interesting and awesome the secret game is but then cut off the discussion or description with "but I can't talk about it." It does your listener no favours. It comes off as bragging and elitist.

I wasn't referring to that topic (the banana and orange talk) when I said taking stuff seriously. I was talking about the general P1P attitude towards other podcasts recently. Perhaps it's just my perception of the situation but every time someone makes a snide remark now I think, "Here they go again". It's a bit hard to prove how much it actually goes on as there is no way I am going to listen back through a year's worth of eps or something just to see how much it happens but I definitely feel like it's a trend.

It's combined with a bunch of other stuff that other people probably love. Not worth pointing out or arguing about to be honest. I'll resist listening next week and not clog up the thread with my dissenting opinion.

I have a problem when media people start teasing the audience about how awesome something is when we don't know what game they're talking about.

Cannata was basically breaking embargo to let us know that in his opinion X-COM and Dishonored both lived up to the hype, which is nice to see in this year of disappointments. We knew which games he was talking about, so I didn't find that conversation there annoying at all.

Pretty much how I felt. I do remember it annoying me when Shane did it on 1up Yours back in the day. Then again it might just of been Shane, I found him to be annoying in general.

Don't like Shane, don't like Mike, don't like P1P....like Cannata?

I've read enough.

I have. :D

And, to be completely fair to the other guys, I think the "trend" you hate is really just me. Hell, they don't even listen to podcasts--which may be why theirs was always so great.

Also, I, too, like Cannata. But he was being a dickhead.

Mike calling Jeff a dick made your morning. More power to you :)

It would make my morning if Mike would call Phil a dick for the Bane voice abuse :P

Give it time :)

And I honestly like it when people let fly constructive criticism. Please don't feel like it's unwelcome. I was just trying to figure out your position.

Alright, this is more for the other parts of the cast, since you are ALMOST flawless, Greg - but this is constructive.

I know some people think playing a game loudly during what someone thinks is "boring talk" is funny, but it's petty and annoying at this point. Also, the amount of gasping and wheezing when laughing at others' poorly done jokes or references has got to be scaled back a bit - you all sound like you're 400 lbs and dying when you do that, and I know that's not true.

nah

I'm going to need a laptop separate from the one I'm recording on in order to get Rapelay loud enough to hear.

Well, at least I enjoyed this week's episode.

I support Mike's campaign to be the 'cheap' guy. Because he's a cheap guy.

We'll see if Sewart can hold off when I get around to buying that One Piece Dynasty Warriors game.

I honestly like to hear about any/all games that the dudes are playing. Sometimes I discover a game I didn't think I would enjoy as a result.

(which is why I am also not a fan of the Mario music interrupting the discussion)

Wow Mike, open up your mind to some good movies, scifi or not.

Enlighten me, Leonard Maltin. Or do you just mean the Alien movies? I think my mind is pretty darned open to good movies.

As long as they're not sci fi.

Or fantasy.

Or have time travel.

Or have Johnny Depp.

Robocop, Alien and Aliens. Watch those this weekend and enjoy. But didn't you say you liked BSG? That's scifi, I'm confused.

Mostly Uranus.

BSG isn't exactly sci fi in its recent television iteration. It has much more in common with a modern-day drama series set in Anytown, USA than it does with, say, Star Trek: The Next Generation. That show is for fucking nerds. ;)

justification! closeted scifi fan confirmed!

I really liked Greg's selection of music during the interlude.

Faux chiptune music just ain't doing it for me anymore.

The less "popular songs done in chiptune style" the better imho!

Still the best:

what Shane's doing there is a bit different. It's his job to build excitement for Sony properties now. Before it was just his hobby :)

Yeah, on the publisher end it's fairly common to hype the tease of a countdown of an announcement. Just that the timing of the tweet was funny, though.

Exactly, and we need to keep this sort of background info in mind when we are deciding whether we want to get irritated or not :p

Play a level where Stephen Fry introduces a note, then the note plays, then Stephen Fry describes the note you just heard.

I didn't realize Girls Like Robots was an Adult Swim game when I played it at PAX East. I'm surprised it's any fun.
I've actually enjoyed quite a few AS iOS games
.

All this always happens at the same time. Too much internet and not enough time. I want to listen to this, watch the youtube walkthrough of the new Fantasy Land expansion, play Pokemon, and watch the new Glove and Boots.

You got me with that Zelda spoilers fake-out. I paused the podcast after about 3 minutes and only realised that you moved straight on when I looked at the description.

LOL @ the Arthur Gies jab. Is there some inside joke here? He gets tons of crap lol. I always like him on RebelFM.

He's just everyone's favorite gaming journalist punching bag. I listened to a podcast last week that was like half Arthur bashing :lol

... but then the podcast took a dark turn and insulted giantbomb >:|

Pretty sure that makes you the punchline

Which podcast was this, it sounds like it matches my interests.
