I think once he sees Remedial Chaos Theory there will be an huge blanket of grace covering the rest of the season's episodes.

The hell is wrong with you guys? Season 3 was fucking awesome. The only thing I didn't like about it was the Chang episodes towards the end of the season. Felt a bit too wacky, but still funny though.

Partway through it now...wouldn't be so bad without Brita. Actually, most episodes would be a lot better without Brita.

edit: oh my god the final destination scene with the troll staring at Troy just made up for the whole episode.

Anyways, I actually liked the concept behind the episode...it just wasn't a very funny episode.

Season 3, IMO, will be a love it/hate it thing: whether you can indulge in the absurdity or reject it entirely will determine whether you like it or not.

The episode after Chaos Theory was shit. The one where they tell all the horror stories.

I had the same issue with Season 2...too many special themed episodes. I really hope this doesn't continue like this.

Also, here's hoping Shirley and Brita both get cut from the show. Yep. Everyone on the show is a caricature at this point...might as well cut the boring ones.

The Halloween episode is one of the absolute best for me last year. Especially Abed humming the song and Troy playing along with his finger. A song that will weave it's way through the rest of the season.

If you hate themed episodes, turn it off now.

nbc should just let the show die and be done with it. the heart will be gone it will no doubt just be parody episode after episode.

I enjoy that one. It's certainly a hell of a lot better than most of the episodes in the second half of the season.

For me, episodes 15-22 ("Origins of Vampire Mythology", "Virtual Systems Analysis", "Basic Lupine Urology", "Course Listing Unavailable", "Curriculum Unavailable", "Digital Estate Planning", "The First Chang Dynasty", "Introduction to Finality" ) was an epic run of greatness. And I really liked 13 and 14 too (the pillow fort ep and the pillow fort/blanket fort civil war ep). ... and I didn't hate 11 or 12.

Then again, I've liked almost everything this show has done. Except the insufferable high school kids from that first season episode, because those actors were too good at being hateable.

I watched the first two seasons as marathons and the third episode to episode and I found that I didn't find the show as fun that way. I'll be doing a third season marathon shortly to see if that's the case.

As a member of Team Britta, I will show you the door, sir. That being said, I didn't really like where they took her by the end of the season so much, but she was still effectively funny.

Just finished watching s1-3 for the first time. Niiiice.

If only they'd do Jeff+Annie and inject it right into my veins.

The dean faintgasming was always awesome and while Chang worked best as a teacher, well, can't Chang-e the mind of the producers.

I really do hope they tone down the problems with the characters becoming overly caricatured over the past season because they had such heart before, and still show it from time to time in later episodes.

Yeah, those high school kids were the worst.

I find her character is just so poorly written and unbelievable. Everyone on the show is a caricature but most of them have some believable moments.

Annie, I feel, is the best character on the show. I'm not sure if it's just the fact that Alison Brie is a pretty damned good actress, or if her character is just better written.

Troy is my favorite character as far as comic relief goes though.

There's a bunch of funny Community related bits included with the new Mechromancer character in Borderlands 2. Two of her outfits are labeled Cool Cool Cool and Streets Ahead.

Britta's character was marginalized in favor of increasing Annie's role as the primary sexual character.

Which is sad since there were so many places they could have taken the character while at the same time making her more comedic (hello Troy romance angle that never really materialized).

They seem to still be heading in that direction, though personally, I don't care for the pairing, so I'm not going to complain if nothing comes of it.

It's materialized now and I don't believe it for one second. They have zero chemistry together.

I miss the Britta that you could take seriously. She became a clown sometime in season 2.

All of the characters did, which is a shame really. The show was at it's best when they produced it with a deft touch between humor and realistic characterization. They just took everyone's most notable trait and SUPERCHARGED it.

Except for Chang, they just made him crazy for no reason and robbed that character of any weight, substance, and authority to function as an antagonist/anti hero.

This thread is sad. Nobody hates on a show as badly as it's biggest fans.

Nobody loves it as much either.

I'm not saying it's a good storyline, just that it's a storyline. She and Jeff's on again off again always seemed to keep both grounded.

There's not much of a joke here. She off-handedly says people call her that because Jeff can't believe she said what she said with no trace of irony. He knows what people really call her, and it isn't that. He knows what it is either because he started it like he did with Fat Neil, or that it's simply sexual in nature and he doesn't want to share it with her. Not really much there. Kind of a one-off joke.

The t-shirt NBC sells is a result of people latching onto it.

okay i thought there was some obvious pun I was missing

Probably the best run of episodes (of that length) of the entire series. Chaos Theory and Foosball are two other favorites. I didn't like the Halloween story episode much though.

As for the more exaggerated characters, I liked it because it opened up more story and joke options. Change is part of what made me excited to watch the show each week. However, that doesn't mean I would want the changes to be permanent - that would go against the very point. The next season should have made new changes in a totally different direction since they went as far as necessary in that one.

Exaggerated characters = good. Heart = bad. It's the same with The Simpsons. Community and The Simpsons need to be ironic, sarcastic, and satirical. And they need to parody, or even attack society and pop culture. These shows are all about one-upmanship. They can't have heart. If you want heart there are plenty of shows like Friends out there.

So you didn't like the episode about Troy's birthday?

I couldn't disagree more. The best episodes of both shows are the ones that combine the heart with the satire. Neither show would be as good they are (or in the case of The Simpsons, were) without the heart.

The show was always at its best when it had both. "Introduction to Film" showed this was possible from the beginning.

The best Community episodes incorporate both seamlessly.

Not only is your thesis insane, but I can't tell if you're trolling or not simply because your examples are all ass backwards. Simpsons was in its heyday when it had a mixture of both, and citing friends as havign heart... holy shittt. Characters need to have heart for the viewer to form a lasting attachment to them, it makes it even funnier when wacky things are happening that stretch the boundaries instead of outright breaking them. Outight breaking them devalues the core inegrity of the characters and creates a detachment for a lot of people.

Basically this post is bad and your should feel bad.
