I did a few times, yeah. No biggie though. Jubeat only got one vote so if you like I can predend it got two.

More people need to get on this. The latest jukebeat pack is amazing.

Hey guys I just wanted to check the consensus on God of Blades. It seems like it gets right everything that infinite warrior fucked up.

I just picked it up and I love the overblown 70's fantasy art style. I feel like I'm playing some kinda new-age heavy metal album cover. It's an odd mix of auto-runner and beat 'em up that seems to have a decent bit of replayability, baring in mind that I've only put in maybe half an hour.

Man, I was really disappointed by Infinite Warrior and I was really looking forward to it, too. This kind of came out of nowhere and blew me away.

Personally I LOVE EVERYTHING about the game, and I'm not a 'score attack' fan.
I love the awesome graphic, the sounds, the physics, the different feeling of each sword, the campaign, the eternal mode, the sword unlocking library metagame, the secret sword unlock solving on gobshrine.com..everything.
It's like my youth was condensed in a game.
I'm playing it everyday.

I just wish for more campaign!

Quoting this so I remember to try it out later. Not really thrilled with my current alarm clock on my Ipad.

Not sure if it works well with an iPad. The idea is that you put your phone in bed, and it uses the accelerometer to sense your movement during the night and map out your sleep cycle, then it wakes you up during your lightest sleep stage (within a time window you specify) so that you would wake up feeling refreshed. And the alarm starts out very quiet, then gradually gets louder until you're awake, which helps ease you off of sleep without the usual alarm panic.

It helped me wake more refreshed after 5 hrs of sleep than I usually do after 7 hrs.

Doesn't work if you don't sleep alone though :(

Man, i'd love to play jubeat but on the iphone i'm afraid it's just too small. It's the only reason I want an iPad.
Also, does anyone here play simpsons tapped out? I need to add two friends and I don't want to waste my donuts :P

i hate it when achievements don't unlock in the game centre.
i presume its because I didn't have internet at the time or something, really annoying.

for example I have a few games where i have unlocked levels 1-3 missing the unlock achievement for 4 but have 5-7 again...
so clearly I have unlocked 4 at some point but the achievement doesn't show up in the game centre it does however show up in game.
any thing i can do to alleviate this or stop it from happening in the future?
-sucks.

I've had this problem quite a bit. What games has this happened to you on?

Typically if I understand the process-if you are offline, the game should "cache" the achievement-so that the next time you connect to internet and gamecenter-it applies that. I have seen patches come from games that then trigger then stuck achievement immediately-so it must be some kind of known issue...

For some reason, I'm feeling really drawn to Elder Signs: Omen. Is it newb-friendly? Never played anything like it before that I know of.

I'm in the minority (obviously) but it saddens me that Cut the Rope, Plants vs Zombie and Angry Birds are still so popular. It may well be that they're old hat, but I find them so dull. Especially PvZ, that game is boreville.

Also sad that Bastion under performed and the Room got a paltry 2 votes despite it being one of the best puzzle games I've played on iOS.

I am just a gaming snob though, I am fully aware of this.

Well, if it makes you feel any better Bastion was my game of the year for 2011. :-P

I haven't played the iOS version yet.

Hello,

I apologize if this has been asked before. But this thread is rather large and difficult to search through. I'm looking for a game that can be played over local wifi multiplayer and regular network multiplayer. Preferably action or racing. Any recommendations? Ideally that can be played across iPad and iPhone.

GDS is overrated. That game has been out for over 2 years now, surely people have moved on...

hahahahahahaha no. Game Dev Story is what brought a lot of us (incl me) into Kairosoft games, which are like an entire Genre. So yes, I'm not playing Game Dev Story anymore, but I'm still playing Kairosoft games in general, and Game Dev Story is the best of those, so it belongs up there.

Reading that Top 20 list reminds me that there are a wealth of quality PC Flash games that need to be ported over to IOS. Unfortunately many of the best ones are made by people with limited resources.

I got into it, got into a few other Kairosoft games but the last one haven't even touched... just such a time sink. And besides, GP Story was by FAR the best one.

And what was that football (soccer) game that Kairosoft-style? New Star Soccer? That's far better than the Kairosoft games IMO. At least, different enough to be refreshing.

That top 10 sucks. Dungeon Raid should be far, far higher. That I'm still playing it now says a lot.

Well, GDS was the first Kairosoft game on iOS, so yeah.

Well that doesn't mean that everyone plays it first, not everyone was on iOS when the first games hit. Just saying that for most people it was the first. ;) So I totally understand why it's high up, as a representative of all Kairosoft games.

Sad that Broken Sword isn't up there though :(

It's excellent. I'll be getting the update and the new dlc tonight. Be sure to take the time to learn what's going on before judging it too quickly. When I first started playing, I was initially worried it was a very fancy looking game of Yahtzee. There's much more depth to it than that. The goal isn't to roll the right symbols on the dice. The goal is to do everything you can to mitigate the randomness of the dice rolls. That includes selecting the right adventure to roll against, picking the riot adventurer to attempt it, and using items wisely. It's a great game.

So... whatever happened to the 'Best of the month' thing?

I can do it if no1 else wants to...

Soon.

In fact, I wonder if it would be a good idea for someone to start a "let's hash this out" thread for it, so we can come to some kind of consensus. I vote Wario64 for first go at bat.

I think the first thread should start on nov 1st, that gives us a few weeks to sort our shit out.

The only game that deserves to be on that list is Ghost Trick.

I do not know what you are on about, that is an incredibly dumb statement. Did you vote? What do you think are the best games on iOS then? Because if a ds port (even a good one) is your fave, it doesn't bode well for the rest...

I'm not chiablo, but pretty much all of my favorite iOS games are ports or remakes (with notable exceptions such as Rayman and Super Hexagon). The plattform is still lacking original content in genres apart of the shallow time-wasters, which I don't really like (mostly because there's a gazillion of them and I typically only need a single one; I don't know how much time you guys need to waste, but I only have maybe half an hour a day I play such a game).

Looking at the Top 20, I wouldn't touch half of these games at all. Other ones I've enjoyed for an hour or two, but completely forgot afterwards to this very day. If the only memory I associate with a game is "Oh, yeah, I successfully wasted an hour or two with it" than it's not a game worth mentioning in my book, regardless of whether it was a very fun hour.

To make it short: Ghost Trick is a substantially better game than nearly every other game on the list. Smartphone games are getting better every week, but most original iOS games are still rather shallow experiences and even the best ones are still not comparable to the better handheld games. If chiablo doesn't like these experiences his statement really isn't all that dumb.

Two of my friends formed a startup few months ago, this is their first game: Badland

First gameplay footage looks great! It's like Limbo + Swarm + that helicopter game.

That looks pretty damned awesome :)

THE RESULTS ARE IN!! The Official list of NeoGAF's favourite iOS games is up!

Go bitch.

I really need to stop being lazy and just trawling my subscribed threads.

I disagree with that statement. The issue is more the time-wasters are the games that grab the headlines. The games that have more universal appeal and hence get more press and votes in top 10 lists. If you look beyond those there are plenty of good games in other genres. There are numerous great strategy games, puzzle games, fantastic board game ports, ect.

I'm also not sure why time spent is a limiting factor. My favorite game from the past 10 years is Portal. A game that takes what, 3-4 hours to beat? I've played many of those games on the iOS list longer than that.

Point is, people want difference experiences from their gaming, and what makes iOS great is the wide variety to help fill those widely different requirements.

I just got my first smartphone, and I looked through the all time list, and it does seems like most games on that list are just time-waster or lack depth.
I don't know if the newer games have more depth or maybe I need to try out some of the games before judging, but this was my first impression.

Like someone mentioned, time-wasters are cool, but I'm hoping to find something that has a lot of depth.

I'm confused. I was gonna make a list of the top20 games in the thread that are NOT timewasters, and I found hardly any. There are SOME that are of the endless runner type (e.g. Tiny wings) or puzzlers (e.g. Cut the rope), but many others are highscore-attack (shmups, or groove coaster etc) with great replayability, so thosr hardly count, unless you'd call a game like counterstrike a timewaster too.

Then there's other games with massive content, like galaxy on fire.

I really don't see your point. Please gives us a breakdown of the games in that list and what you think of them?

Yeah it is quite expensive. But with the jailbreak, it can be use with blutrol, so that you can use it every suitable apps. Also support more BT controller (wiimote, icade etc)
Know what's REALLY fucking bizarre? This was the first time I'd thought of the 8-Bitty for MONTHS and this morning I got an email from ThinkGeek saying it's in stock. $29 plus $10 shipping to Australia. Shit, I might buy two and make a dedicated(ish) pinball controller to use with iOS. I wonder how hackable it is (ie provisions for analog controls etc.)...

I was just looking at that too! I reckon it'd be ace for iOS games like Gunman Clive and iMAME games like Metal Slug.

Still holding out for a decent dual-stick controller though.

Are you gonna order yours straight from thinkgeek?

What the hell is a time waster? Really, aren't all games time wasters? I mean my god, should we also put every Metal Gear cut scene in this nebulous time waster category? Yes, all that time you spent on Final Fantasy could be spent on your career or family, thus Final Fantasy is a time waster (unless your family is a bunch of Final Fantasy body pillows, then my apologies).

It's just a question what you want out of your gaming experiences. There are gamers looking for an immersive narrative experience, but that doesn't mean a game like Cut The Rope is any less "valid." I'm somebody who would rather get hentai paper cuts on my eyes than read/watch most video game stories, but I can recognize that there are people that want to dedicate their lives to that.

iOS is an exciting platform because it has room for all those experiences. You get Ghost Trick, The Room and Last Express (sure, most of those are ports but for something like Last Express gets a wider audience to appreciate it), but you get gaming experiences like Super Hexxagon, Cut the Rope and Hook World; quick bursts of honed gaming experiences.

Oh except Game Dev Story...That's a literal time waster. You'd get the same effect if you perpetually rolled dice labelled with different game genres on each side.

I don't buy a lot of bad games so Ghost Trick is by default the worst.

What the hell, are you havin' a go at Ghost Trick son?!

Ghost Trick is brilliant. It isn't the best portable game as it doesn't lend itself to short bursts but I love kicking back on the couch for a couple of hours with Ghost Trick iOS: Definitive iPad Version.

How is Tentacles -Enter The Dolphin-?

It's a really, really great game for this platform. Some of the level sequences are a tad repetitious, but most of what's here is played around with in some clever and entertaining ways. It's also surprisingly challenging. You get a lot for a buck, and there's reasonably priced DLC if you crave more. All-around good game.

I already bought it. I liked it, and the creature not being cutie critter is kind of charming in itself lol.

No Gamecenter support though...
