No licensed music? I thought a few places said it was all in there the other day (unlike the other recent releases of it). I don't mind the stores being replaced myself, but the controls could be an issue, really just an issue of what price I pick it up at though.
 
Holy shit, Crazy Taxi appears to have all the original Offspring/Bad Religion songs! Major nostalgia overdose.
Edit: Pizza Hut/KFC are much less important to me
 
An I the only one where Pocket Planes don't work properly on iPhone 5? I am at the introduction and I get the same messages twice after clicking 'continue'. Also I had to touch the cities the planes were flying to but the map didn't show up. =/

EDIT:
Seriously, Nothing happens when I touch the screen. It doesn't work on iPhone 5.

Woah. That's my purchase confirmed. It's one of those games that I know won't work great on a touchscreen but I simply don't care. Like GTA3 and MvC2, it's just mental having them on my telephone.

Well to put it bluntly, you are rather fucked mate. There aren't many games on any system with the type of depth you're looking for, and even fewer on portable systems and less still on 'smartphone' systems. In my experience, there are a lot of games with very rewarding and deep mechanics but they are usually either action games or ports (eg, FFT). There's a strategy game called Ravenmark that may be up your alley?

The thing is, you're looking for types of games that really don't exist that much any more, especially not on portable platforms that prioritise pick up and play over sit down and stroke your beard. Not to say there aren't the types of games you're looking for, there are just a handful of them.

And if you consider Counterstrike a time waster then I really don't know if anyone can help you. 99% of all games are utterly pointless by that reasoning.

Driving games usually is pretty great on ios using the tilt control... I sure hope I am right because I love my crazy taxy.

No, I get what he means. There's no progression in Counterstrike - you pick it up and play it for however long and other than getting better at the game, you're not getting anywhere. It's just using up time and enjoying the game, as opposed to something like Bioshock where you're going through a story mode, or an MMO where you want to get your character up to level x.
 
I'm picking up Crazy Taxi and maybe Devil's Attorney (not sure), also Topia which is now only a World Builder so it must be free. Lexatron looks great too.

I get what he means but he's still wrong. timewaster is probably the wrong word anyway. I think he should mean either hardcore or casual, that's much less contentious :P

By his logic every score attack, puzzle and non MMO multiplayer game is a time waster and that's just really really dumb in addition to coming off as smug and condescending. Especially since those games can often have insanely deep mechanics and can be very satisfying to master.

It's almost like saying that games without acheivements don't count.
 
Bad Piggies rocks so much, lately I've retreated to Drop 7 and Connectrode repeatedly on my commutes, just as something to pass the time, nothing else was keeping my interest. But Bad Piggies is just awesome and is just the thing I've been looking for. I'm impressed by Rovio, I was never that into Angry Birds, but they really knocked it out of the park with this one.

Ahh, see I think you're taking 'timewaster' as a derogatory term. I use it in much the same way that I think he means it - I'll sit and play some Company of Heroes skirmishes or play Jetpack Joyride as a timewaster. It doesn't diminish the depth and enjoyment I'm getting out of those games, but I've not DONE anything coming out of it - I'm not any closer to defeating the fake alien invasion or ending the war by Christmas.

I'm so late that the party is over, but I finally got around to trying Jetpack Joyride and man, this game is hard to put down. I feel like it'll take me forever to unlock any of the higher end items without spending real life money, but I don't really care, it's a blast with the default equipment. The only problem is trying to contain profane outbursts at work whenever I botch a promising run.

He's not wrong, it's his opinion. Every person has a different idea of what a timewaster is. I consider golf to be a timewaster, yet there are people who play golf for a living. That doesn't mean I'm insulting their profession, and has nothing to do with how complicated or 'deep' golf is. It's just not something I enjoy playing.

No, he's wrong and you're wrong. It's perfectly possible to have a wrong opinion. Dismissing something as a timewaster (and the phrase is definitely dismissive) because you don't enjoy it is dumb. Just like saying anything 'unproductive' is a timewaster is dumb. Especially when you're talking about videogames, they're all timewasters. And by extension, so is any hobby that isn't directly involved in working, eating or sleeping.

Ever heard the saying "the time that you enjoy wasting is not wasted time"? That's what I'm getting at here. We can discuss the semantics of the word "timewaster" all day, but I think that saying best reflects what I'm trying to explain.

Is sex a time waster?
 
Timewasters are games you play when you just need to pass the time. Examples:

1. Waiting for a bus or train
2. Waiting for an appointment/doctors office etc..
3. Waiting in your car to pick someone up
4. Sitting on the toilet
5. Waiting to be seated at restaraunt

You are sitting there bored and want a quick game you can play just to pass the time, but you don't really give a shit and can stop playing at any time. Small puzzle games like bejeweled are good for this. Some games can be a timewaster at times, but also can be played more seriously if you want to go for an achievement or high score.

Not sure why this became so heated.
 
Never mind, just realized all the Flick Kick codes were taken.

Bastion is really impressing rme, I've retrieved about three cores and don't really have any complaint with the controls so far.

Rebuild on the other hand is getting more and more dull the more I play it. Compared to something like Civ Rev you're really limited in the choices that you're making. I'm still glad I picked it up for a buck, it was entertaining for a couple rounds but I don't see how it could hold anyone's interest for much longer than that. Very simple and repetitive.
 
Somehow I totally missed that Ski Safari added iPhone 5 support, I had been waiting for that to play it more. I just happened to open it up today and noticed, definately one of my favorite iPhone games, it's the perfect mix between Tiny Wings and Jetpack Joyride.

The MTG game is ipad-only, but there's a kickstarter TCG from very good people in the biz coming called "SolForge".

Now as for the topic. I won't put it the same way as Jedeye, but I agree with him - timewaster is a derogatory term. It implies a game is only good for wasting time. And that's just not true. And it's not our saying "you're wrong" that's dismissive, it's your describing them as time wasters. There are plenty of games out there I pick up and play not just to kill time, but because I WANT to play them, because playing them is inerently rewarding, not because I don't have anything better to do. What you SHOULD have said is that you don't like casual games, and are more looking for deeper/story-driven experiences. Saying every other genre is only timewasters is dismissive and wrong. Also, other genres are generally more prevalent, and especially so on handhelds and even more so on phones, due to their nature.

So now you're looking for story-rich, progressive experiences, okay. Now we have sth we can try recommend games for the genre you like, I'll start.

RAVENMARK. Like Jedeye said, right up your alley.
Civilization Revolution, maybe?
Galaxy On Fire is massive
Two GTA games, Max Payne are great ports
Starbase Orion, another awesome TBS game
Pirates! Sid meier port.
Adenture Bar Story, JRPG.

There are definitely more, and I didn't even include less story-based shooters like ME: Infiltrator or Epoch. What you're looking for is Skyrim on handhelds, which is just hard to get given it's a phone where most people don't want what you won't. The games liste above are good examples that games like that DO exist on the platform, either as ports or e.g. Ravenmark and Starbase Orion as awesome iOS-only games. Both those two games also have some of the best devs, with gaf presence and constant massive free updates.

I'm sure there are games I forgot, but let me know if you agree with my statement and take a look at those games. ;)

Like I said, it was fun for awhile, and if it's still a buck I'd reccomend it even. But for someone who's into strategy games there just isn't much to it.

Outwitters is fun, and Civ Rev is pretty decent, but I'm surprised there aren't more strategy games on iOS. I'd love to have a port of something deeper like Civ 4/5, or something with the depth and balance of Advance Wars. I know there's a 4x game called Starbase Orion that's well-regarded, I've been meaning to check it out, but overall there doesn't seem to be much in the way of great strategy games. It's not surprising I guess, building and properly balancing the framework for a strategy game is probably more intimidating than making a score attack game or whatever, but I wish we'd get more iOs remakes of classic strategy games.
 
I don't want to do the whole "Yo, is this worth my hard earned Tic Tac budget?" routine but how is that Beat Sneak Bandit? Does it have staying power or go stale like my breath after this purchase?

Ravenmark and Starbase Orion are the best, yeah. There's others, more PvZ like TBS games (the Bloodshow games, TW Battles), or JRPG games which are turn-based, or games like Civ Rev, but yeah, it's not a very well-represented genre.

It's really good and there is loads of content. I still need to finish the bonus levels for instance, there's so much to do. It oozes charm, the music and visuals are great and it's made by a very nice GAFfer. Give the fella some money!

Yes. I think it's the best game on the platform. There are fifty-four levels including unlockable levels, a pretty epic boss battle and an additional twelve "hardcore" levels. Seeing everything isn't all that difficult but completing the game and unlocking everything is really quite challenging. It had a wonderful aesthetic, music and its just really clever and solid. More so than any other iOS game it feels like one of Nintendo's best.

So, yes. You should get it. : )

Neither are very good, although little masters is free while Minimon is a dollar.

Little masters has no exploring or movement at all, its just battling.

Minimon is more like a MMO-pokemon although its very rough.

Can't really recommend either one
