Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Got the Cronus unit, specifically the X version for some odd reason. Unfortunately it's currently not the remedy for PS3 stick users wanting to play on a 360 (will test a PS3 TE soon though which I heard works fine) but it's supports hella 360 tech. I just tried a Hori Fighting Edge 360 version on a PS3 and worked really well. I didn't notice any dropped inputs, obvious input lag or other unusual occurrences. The Fighting Edge's LEDs were working like normal (including flashes) and the touch panel worked as intended. I will be testing a lot more console-specific sticks in the coming weeks.

Give it a real test. Put some juice/data behind it.

I used to test / review converters back then when they were needed. I'm hoping this one is at least decent.

Yeah I am gonna use both Toodles' test and your VF5 test. It's gonna be a bit complicated especially Toodles' test but if the results are good, we might see a really good converter. I must do it!

New foehammer case for my gf.

Just finished doing a lag test on the Cronus through 360 to PS3. I used Toodles' method based on examining trades or counter-hits from one of the subjects.

I used a Mad Catz SE 360 stick where the fierce button was chained to a newly opened Toodles ChImp board. Did two tests to check consistency.

Test 1: 25 trades, 22 counter-hits from ChImp, 3 counter-hits from Cronus.
Test 2: 25 trades, 23 counter-hits from ChImp, 2 counter-hits from Cronus.

There was a bit more consistency from the trades than the ChImp but I was a bit surprised that it closed in. I will do a PS3 to 360 test whenever the company provides CronusX software and general firmware updates they have in plan to allow Hori sticks.

Finally got around to pulling an old Sanwa stick from some old hardware. Everything looks to be in good condition, but one direction wasn't working. It seems like a dated model, as it used 4 separate microswitches.

This leaves me with a question: Can I drop a newer style switch in there (like: http://www.focusattack.com/sanwa-tp-ma-pcb-assembly/ or even an Optical one ) with little problem? or should I just go looking for micro switches?

It's not really "dated" to have separate microswitches sans PCB. They still sell their levers with and without the PCB. Hori even uses the PCB-less versions more often than not.

My Etokki Omni V3 was just delivered. Functionally, it is everything I had hoped.
Only problems are the very soft screws and afterthought rubber feet.
Once all my Sanwa Silent parts are swapped in, I'll post some pics.

I'm going to have a lot of stick stuff for sale soon, because this is replacing 2 other sticks that are returning to stock.

I didn't have much of a problem with the screws besides overtightening which obviously is prone to strip. I didn't mind the feet especially if it sticks on my desk fine.

Go get extra screws here.

I stripped 1 screw and nearly stripped another backing them out to open the case. And this with a proper screwdriver that worked flawlessly for the other 5 screws. Should I ever need to open it again, I'll definitely be replacing all of them. I find that pinching the corners may be the trick to easy removal and reinstall.

Regarding the rubber feet, I'm going to sticky felt route since the bottom is nice and flat and I play mostly on my lap.

BTW: The Sanwa silent parts really agree with the metal case, even mashing barely makes a sound.

Still haven't added the felt bottom, but the other mods are done. Couldn't be happier with it.

MarkMan, what's really good on some Twin Sticks? The 360 is about to have every Virtual-On game outside Mars soon and the 1st one is coming to the PS3 as well. It would do wonders if I could play those games and and others like they were meant to without dropping super huge dollars on the one option available. And secretly in the hope that Cyber Sled HD comes out one day.

I just wish buying the new Hori stick was an option.

Is anyone outside of the Hori JP store selling them? The price is too high to have Jshoppers ship.

I'm seriously considering grabbing a Saturn twin stick as a mod project.

Can anyone tell me what model of Sanwa button the Hori SCV fightstick uses??? The buttons feel much more mushy and unresponsive compared to my TE stick and it's driving me crazy. The joystick also feels much more unresponsive. Do I need to just break them in? If they are different then I'm gonna order whatever sanwa buttons the TE has, or those silent hit buttons if they are available.

There really aren't that many kind of buttons and levers sanwa makes. I'd wager it has the exact same obsf-30 buttons and jlf stick the TE does (though I could be wrong.) Make the construction of the housing of the stick is throwing you off or something. Buttons don't need to be 'broken in,' though I've noticed the feel if the lever changes a bit over long periods of use, but I couldn't really say why- springs wearing out slightly maybe.

wanted to show my little proud (mainly SF3 on pc), just some color swap around and nothing comparable to the other beasts in this thread :)

you have nothing to be ashamed of. VSHGs are top of the top.

All you need is a different mounting plate !

Wait it can screwed on top of the other mounting plate? I looked at it and thought it wasn't possible.

If I can get a ls-32 on my VSHG...I might cry.

The buttons on my TE are definitely much more sensitive and have more of a clicky feel to them, this is driving me crazy! I should have just gotten the SxTK VS stick : (
Those etokki sticks are so sexy!

What is the best route to take for arcade sticks for older systems? An ideal solution is to buy one (high quality) stick and then using converters if possible. I have PS3 and 360 sticks (TE) but I assume there is no path to make those compatible with older systems?

If you install a custom PCB, a stick can be made natively compatible with older systems.

It seems there are no holes in the mounting plate you can put on the VSHG's mounting hole. At least the Hori Hayabusa can probably fit.

I might just get Voltech's VAS-HG Lite and be happy with that, try to find a classic TE-S and Sega-fy it, or make my Hori VF5 stick have Astro City art.

Sanwa buttons aren't supposed to be clicky. At all.

Sanwa does seem to have a bit of trouble maintaining consistency between batches sometimes. I think your TE buttons are a bit out of spec.

Is the Hori VLX Diamond the only stick with a stainless steel chasis? I watched an unboxing video on the youtubes and nearly feinted it was so Ross.

I thought the MadCatz V.S. stick was for me until I found out how much of it is plastic. I already have a TE, so I am set for the plastic sticks for now. I want something a little more special.

Then I found out it would be upwards of $600-700 to import one.

VSHG is nice, and metal, and classy, and a bit special, it can be argued. Still pricey but not quite as much as a Diamond.

I remember something about the VSHG having a buggy PCB, and not registering multiple button inputs correctly or something. Isn't that a concern?

Happened to me. Didn't always register ultras properly in sf4, but never had the problem with subsequent hori/madcatz sticks I've gotten.

Has anyone put a Wii U joystick into pre-order phase yet?

I know MarkMan/MadCatz had posted some news around PAX that there was a TTT2 stick coming out for PS3/360/U. The PS3 had a cool VSHG colorway.

I'm pretty sure you can pre-order both PS3/360 @ the gameshark store, but there was never anything posted for the Wii U stick, nor was there ever any pics released of it's design. I wanna have a stick ready Day 1 for TTT2. Panda in Princess Peach cosplay isn't suited for pad play I'm afraid.

Hey Phantomnaut, I've been trying to figure out how to mount my JLF onto my Omni. I can't find the right size screws for it. Know which size screws you had to get for yours?

Got myself a hitbox last week. Ordered it on Monday Night and got it that Thursday. Button placement seems too close but I didn't take me too long to get use to it. I'm not very good with fighting games to begin with, but I did find that moves I was having trouble with were now coming out without an issues. I got it mostly for KOF XIII and had to change default settings from the AC /BD layout to the ABCD layout. I've also overlapped the mapping so I could also try the BCD/A layout. Only problem I've been having is that for some reason, I'm now having trouble with A+C or B+D moves, so I'm having to bind them to button so they they come out consistently. Nice that I'm not randomly jumping and that I'm actually able to hit the diagonal down normals without a crouching normal coming out.

I hear mostly positive things about the hitbox, but I random hear people hating on it calling it cheap (so moves coming out that I expect is now cheap?) or an overglorified keyboard. The build quality seems good and they include an extra long usb cord. So far pretty happy with it, but wish I had more time to practice.

I have an old MAS stick that I got over 10 years ago for my NEO GEO CD that I never got use to. Not sure how hard it would be to mod it or if I should use any parts from it for a new stick. Of course the other option would be to leave it alone since I have a hitbox for now to play around with.

Thanks for the deal markman but:
I live outside of the continental United States. Can I order from Store.GameShark.com?

Store.GameShark.com currently only sells within the continental United States.
Booooo. :(

I think making execution easier can be seen as cheap-- especially if the game wasn't designed w/ that input device in mind.. Part of the difficulty / challenge of a game is doing the moves correctly and consistently. I don't care if my opponent uses a hitbox though.

Just order some Sanwa buttons for my ex-se on the 360. Haven't order from akihabarashop in long time. Felt the need to change my buttons for some reason. Think I miss using the sanwa buttons or something lol.

Still love seimitsu buttons though.

I've had it, I'm getting new parts for the WWE Allstars. The stock joystick is really not working the way it used to. Any recommendations for a noob? I heard Sanwa it's where it's at.
