So the RT releases next week. Is there any indication as to how I may be able to get one in Australia? We don't have MS stores here and I remember reading something last week about a retail presence here but nothing more.

The Surface Movement Just hit their facebook page.

I actually don't mind it, and the little kids dancing like that were kind of funny. Will definitely catch people's attention and do well with the casuals. If they can follow it up with more information type ads then they are definitely on the right track.

I am really confused by MS's strategy in marketing this. For such a cool product it seems so odd. A week before launch not one single person in the press has had a hands on, no pricing, no preorder or solid availability information, no real info about what skus there will be. Extremely vague tv adverts.....

It reeks of vaporeware yet it's out in a week.

Outside of the adverts, it isn't much different from Apple. The company that pretty much sets the standard in the "devices" market

Yup. Commercial should have shown what this can do.

Nah, seems this is just an introductory ad. Teaser. Informative ads come later, like one that says how much it costs to buy it. The order is always, 1. dance number 2. "Its this much to buy it. Click in. 3. ????
profit
????

I actually didn't think it was that bad an ad, though not exactly very informative.

Is it really just a week?!?

I think in general Apple would have had pricing, preorders and some hands on time for press a week before launch.

The Windows 8 launch is 10/26, so 11 days. I think a couple days between details and availability isn't too bad. Apple pulls off availability the same day as announcements for some devices and availability within a couple weeks for others.

We'll see how it plays out. I don't really think there is a problem with how this is playing out though. Especially if they can come with a competitive price. A $299 announcement a week from now is going to be more effective than a $299 announcement a month ago.

For what its purpose is its actually a really good ad.... showing off the interchangeable touch covers is one of the selling points of surface.

It's an entertaining ad, not an informative one. I'm sure those will come later. I still want to know price and hear reviews and stuff.

The ad is alright but I feel like they should be focusing on the tablet and OS itself, not the fact that it has a keyboard attachment or stand.

People want to know *exactly* what you can do with the tablet.

You know... like Apple's ads.

...Windows 8 ads? The Surface ad aims to differentiate the Surface from other Windows tablets, not promote Windows as a whole.

We're 11 days from launch, and we don't know pricing yet? And nobody in the press has gotten hands-on time with it.

Microsoft, why do you make it so hard? :(

there is an event scheduled on the 25th. They will probably announce the price then and say its on sale at midnight. I'm sure blogs will get it sometime this week to review it, probably have a nda till the 25th.

It should absolutely be doing both. A tablet is not just the hardware. In a market that is still very unproven (Besides the iPad), the need to show what the Surface can actually do - not that it just looks pretty.

Market is not unproven at all. My mother has a Kindle Fire HD. She can't even work most PCs.

My mistake. Kindle Fire and iPad. Maybe Nexus 7.

There have been far more failures than successes. An ad for a tablet needs to tell people why they actually need a tablet instead of a desktop or laptop. Showing that a device is shiny only goes so far.

For what it is, the ad is fine. But Microsoft should be doing more.

My favorite part of the ad is the end when it shows the guy pressing on a part of the screen that does absolutely nothing. Whoever shot the video obviously never used Windows 8.

That ad is only acceptable as a teaser ad, if they do not have better ads post price reveal that explain what the hell the product is then I am disappointed.

Very easy to watch this ad casually and not understand why the magnetic cover or tablet is special. Also wouldn't be surprised if some people just think it's an iPad ad or an ad for a new iPad accessory. I can imagine people going into the Apple store asking to buy the keyboard cover for their iPad. It does have the "Surface" and "Microsoft" logo which should clue people in, but people tend to be exceedingly stupid.

Seriously! I sold my iMac to make proverbial room for one of these, but without a price this close to launch, it is killing me! Think I am waiting for the Surface Pro, but I want to go in an play with one of these at Best Buy or whatever.

It is one out of a series of ads. It is too early to say they aren't doing what they should be.

This is certainly true. I was evaluating the ad on its own but you make a good point.

However, my argument will stand if the rest of the ads are similar to this one.

From Thurrott...

Stay tuned: Tuesday is going to be a big day

Ahhh, can't wait. I might even be suckered into ordering an RT one even tho I want to wait for the Pro.

Agreed. Their Windows 8 ad wasn't too in depth either. With a $1.5 billion advertising budget, I'm expecting them to do more. But I should remember that this is Microsoft after all

Dear Microsoft, I would like to buy a Surface in ~10 days. About how much money should I be setting aside?

While I'm at it, how about the Lumia 920?

Must be a pretty soft launch if they have virtually no details about the thing this close.

Regardless, for the right price - which would be $499 or less for me, although I'm expecting it to be $599 - I would love to get this.

Not sure what he means by gesture typing. Regardless, that looks pretty cool.

Gesture typing means that they don't just use the touch of your fingers to detect the pressed keys. Other than touch they also sense the pressure, and the cover register the gesture of pressing the key down (even though it doesn't really move) to type.

So what are the chances that the Surface Pro will be able to run DOTA 2 at a reasonable setting?

I'd say chances are "lol".

only integrated graphics, bruh. I wouldn't bother, though 720p/30 may be possible with low enough settings. I don't really consider that satisfactory for that kind of game, but it's not my money.

Excited to pay $500 for a Surface RT with little software and 3rd party hardware support at the moment (and for who knows how long)?

Damn, if only there were about 10 million more of you.
