Interest in pro getting weaker..
You are correct:

EDIT: That must be old, the store listing has it with the SDXC.
To me this is actually better than I was expecting.... I really expected it to be $599 base with the covers extra (but I did think they would only be $50)
I am going to get the base 32 gig and add a touch cover when the first sale inevitably happens. I don't actually need touch cover on day 1.

Yeah tbh I was kind of hoping for a cheaper price but I think people are blowing this out of proportion. The 16gb iPad is the same price. RT also comes with a free copy of office as well and tbh I think it's the more capable tablet. The only issue as of now is the marketplace but that will change quickly enough anyway. This also has a Micro SD slot, mini HDMI, and USB 2.0
A Nexus or mini iPad(if below $300) it is.
Based on.. what?
Pretty much my thoughts as well. The prices for the Surface seem crazy to me.
MS didn't learn any lessons from the meteoric fall of the HP TouchPad. Or from the Motorola Xoom. Or all the Samsung tablets. You can't price it like an iPad and expect to sell any.

Pro has mini-DP, according the old PDF Microsoft has posted.I think Pro had HDMI though.
You'd buy a 16GB tablet with non-expandable storage? Maybe it's because I want more out of my tablets, but I don't think I could ever live with that.
Honestly, all those tablets were pretty crappy.
Honestly, all those tablets were pretty crappy.
And the Surface isn't going to be crappy? What does this thing actually bring to the table besides Microsoft Office?
there's no way it's going to be $500 (or 499.999). it will definitely be less.
Exactly. People keep up the "nobody can compete with at the iPad price" mantra without looking at why that has been the case in the past. To put it simply, the previous competitors have sucked. Drop the price and people are willing to put up with it.
Microsoft is trying a different approach, releasing something that doesn't suck.
Serious question, have you used Windows 8?
Serious question, have you used Windows 8?
That's what I'm asking.
How many people are going to buy this thing? How many of those people already own a tablet?
Serious question for you, what value exactly is added for the consumer by jerry-rigging Metro UI onto everything?
In the US, the iPad 2 is $399, while the 32 GB + Keyboard cover RT is $599. I don't see how converting to GBP will get it to just a little more than the iPad 2.FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE US DOLLARS
(has that been said yet? I imagine it has)
Anyway, although I was more interested in the Surface Pro to begin with - I'm disappointed in the price. If the US -> GBP conversion is reasonable, the 32GB model + keyboard cover won't be too much more than an iPad 2, but the price is too high for me for what it is.

So far one oversea poster replied my earlier post and stated he may get one.![]()
Does Win RT have a remote desktop connection app?

I would have been in for sure at $499 with cover. Without it, I would prefer to wait for the Pro.
That said, I'm really interested in what they come with regarding the subscription plans. If it is coming like $299 or $399 with a 2 year commitment to Xbox Music (which I'm already paying for), I'm in for sure.
The iPad 2 is £329 here, or around $529 US. You're right, in that we can probably expect a similar price premium on the Surface, but I do expect a 32GB + kb bundle could hit £400 or even less.
This makes me more sad about the state of the traditional desktop than happy for the metro environment.I can think of a couple, after using Metro exclusively for a while:
- Simplicity/consistency
- App performance (eg, compare Windows Live Mail to the Mail app - it's no contest)
- Proper app management (no installers/uninstallers crap, app suspension, Windows Store, etc)
- Proper support for high-resolution screens
- Notifications and live tiles

I would guess that the 32GB Tablet only to be £400. With the cover £479.
