You got me all excited, but Anand says June
The more I see of this lineup the more I want to wait for this time next year.
Putting aside the issue of the current "definition" of a tablet, how is it not an Ultrabook? The specifications are similar and it can do more things than most Ultraboooks can.
I'm on the complete purchase screen and having this error on microsoft.com "Sorry! Something went wrong. While we're fixing it, please try using the back button or refresh the page and try again."
:-/
Mine went through. Just placed it minutes ago through the USA online store. Now to wait for the 26th!
Actually I now get: 32 GB without Black Touch Cover - Temporarily sold out
Also ordered the Dell XPS 12 convertible x86 rig.

Taking a bit of a risk since it's an un-reviewed product but I think it looks pretty slick.
One of the things that I don't like about this things like the Lenovo Yoga is that the keyboard is always there atached which increases the weight son I don't see myself using them a lot on tablet mode.
The Samsung ATIV/SmartPC/Slate/WHATEVER has only 2 GB RAM.
That's why I don't trust these x86 tablets. As if the Atom doesn't sound weak enough, they all come with only 2 GB RAM. What is this? 2004?

in the US it doesn't say sold out, but it says 'within 3 weeks' rather than 'within 2 - 3 weeks' now. they've also reordered the devices on the screen, so it goes low price to high now, instead of high to low.
I tried ordering from the US site but it wont let me :-/
Black and Cyan Touch Covers temporarily sold out, spoke to a rep and they said all I can do is refresh and hope order goes through.
MS is limiting supplies on purpose to drum up demand!!!
Buying the first revision of a new product isn't a good idea anyway.
Also ordered the Dell XPS 12 convertible x86 rig.

interesting choice. what are the weight specs on it?
I'm sure not matter what they are, it's lighter than my 2007 Elitebook Tablet and thus would be an upgrade. I wonder about the longevity and durability of the swivel itself.

German site did a review of a pre-production unit. review
They were pretty positive.
Looks like a great replacement for my current TabletPC.Thanks!
Just found this too:

My google skills failed me last night I guess.
Techradar was extremely positive about it.
edit: Found one on CNET too...

The hell?
I swear Dell doesn't mention once on their site the slate screen comes off.
Hah.. totally more excited now.

Make sure you see my edit..
The screen isn't removable. Cnets article is.. misleading to say the least.

They throw a picture of the hybrid XPS 10 right in the middle of their XPS 12 review..
And they don't explain it whatsoever.
It's 3.35 pounds BTW.
The Vergecast just started. I can't wait for their unbiased opinions on the Surface and price.

People don't buy tablets for the form factor. They buy tablets because it runs iOS.
What.
These people know their stuff. No one should even try to deny that. But when they start talking about Microsoft stuff, it's exhausting.

I don't know one person who has one and bought it because of that. If anything, you might be more inclined to stick with an ipad if youve already invested a lot of $ on apps on an iPhone already or something, but because of iOS specifically? Thats a first.

I think they're completely right. The Verge didn't say it, they were quoting someone else who said and then discussed what he said. So you're wrong on that.
Secondly, the person that did say it is right. There is a bit of an air of desperation to all of this. It really is the make it or break it moment for microsoft and their future. Everything is on the line, on the path they've chosen to pursue.
That's not a NEGATIVE COMMENT. It's just....the way it is. This is their chance to get into these markets and secure their windows future (metro) with the mass public.

Hahahahaha, please tell me you're exaggerating this.
I wonder how Tom Warren doesn't get an aneurysm.

Tom Warren is not even on the podcast.
I know. I was talking about The Verge as a whole.
The argument was that iOS is a "much nicer ... er, simpler OS".
Id be curious to know if the person who said that even tried the others. Does the article say?
trollWho are you talking to? Because I don't disagree with their statement.
Paul Miller said it. He used Windows 8 "a little bit", which sounds to me like "yeah, I've used it for 5 minutes, before I went back to write my book about being offline on my iPad".
I jumped in during that conversation so I didn't catch the part that they were quoting someone about it and honestly I agree with it. They should be desperate to be relevant. All tech companies should be, if they don't then you're RIM. If you don't then you're Palm.
