Halo 4 launch trailer (David Fincher, Tim Miller) premiering Oct. 18th

I have no interest in the books and i'd say that is true for the vast majority of people interested in the halo games.

Did i say that? I just thought this was MS's chance to really bring the franchise back into the spotlight. This would have been more likely if the trailer was on a similar level to previous ones in the series.

Is Halo not in the spotlight? It has a web series. It had a highly anticipated commercial that people watched Fallon just to see. On most-anticipated retailer lists sits Halo at the top next to BLOPS 2. How is the franchise not in the spotlight.

It is and i never said it wasn't However the launch trailer is a huge part of creating the hype and buzz around a games release. I don't think this will achieve that at all. The game will still sell very well but i think MS missed an opportunity here.

It's the music (or lack thereof) that really spoils the trailer.

And it's too similar to Birth of a Spartan.

I did love the Didact tease though, and the visualisation of the concept art. I also liked how morally dubious the Spartan 2 programme was framed against the Spartan 3 one.

Overall it's a general sense of disappointment, though.

Man, you guys are hard to please.

Ive bought all the Halo games, but have avoided reading too much on Halo 4. So this trailer got me really excited.

It was well done.

Not worth adapting.

I think Halo has enough meat to at least make a decent summer blockbuster. Much better, than most of the drivel that came out this year, at least. We've now got blockbusters coming out, based on board games for instance...

I'm on the side, that believes it would be butchered though. Would love to have seen the Jackson/Blomkamp version, that'll never be.

Man, you guys are hard to please.

I think people just have very high standards for Halo trailers because previous trailers have been pretty exceptional - that said, this trailer still blows most game trailers away IMO.

For me, it's very cool to see a visualisation of something I'd only previously read in a book.

Any dissatisfaction felt is because of the incredibly high standards the franchise has set itself in the past. When we say we were disappointed, we're speaking relatively. It's a fairly great trailer, made even better by the teasing of the main antagonist which, if you're not one of the impatient prawns who've deliberately spoiled themselves, is still a complete unknown (although you can make a fairly educated guess).

Trailer was excellent ,not as good as "Starry Night" but ilked it better than "Deliver Hope". The latter half of the trailer with the MC fighting the Knights was the best part and the Didact looked very menacing. MC is like 7 feet tall then Didact must be pushing at least 10 ft, can't wait to face that fucker in the game. As for a Halo film Blomkamp was the ideal director for it, but he no longer has any interest in it. Only other director i think would be good for a Halo movie is maybe Paul Verhoven.

I feel like if we get movies based in the Halo, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, etc. universes and not just adaptations of the games' story, we could get some really good stuff.

With Halo, they could do a movie version of First Strike or Fall of Reach. When you try to adapt a game's story directly to the big screen, historically it hasn't gone very well, so maybe if Hollywood focuses on expanding the game's universe instead directors will have more creative freedom.

The trailer was really cool visually, but was paced really weird. As a Halo fan I liked it, but I don't think it works very well as a trailer unlike past Halo ads.

I really expected this to be far better. Pacing was bad and several scenes were just off and kind of cheap looking, especially the one with aliens marching and MC battling them afterward. There was no sense of Halo's grandeur and gravity here. Blomkamp's real life action stuff was far better than this.

I for one loved this trailer.

As much as ODST, or Deliver Hope? Maybe not. In part I think, because we don't know as much (or I don't) about the situation in Halo 4 as we did about the Covenant war when we played Reach and ODST.

I think it did a great job showing some of the Fall of Reach stuff, also I liked the combat with the Knights. It felt rather isolated, and chief felt more alone and vulnerable.

One of my biggest gaming regrets(one I will eventually alleviate) is I have not played through Metroid Prime 1-2-3 .I owned 1 on the GC, (Bundled) and I own the Prime Trilogy for Wii. Never got more than half-way through Prime though.

That said, this trailer gave me that feeling of isolation I often got when playing Prime. Rather than a huge epic battle that we are used to (and we all know will still be in H4).

I personally liked the change in pace.

looks fucking incredible. oh my god its almost here.

sidenote, are there any good halo preorder deals up? i know newegg had that 20 bucks off a while ago but i think i missed it. anything else like it?

I disagree. The live shorts, and now especially Forward unto Dawn, shows that this translates well to the screen.

They would have an hard time differing it from all the other sci fi series IMO, Aliens, Battlestar etc. it would come off as a clone, they even have the black guy from Aliens as one of the main characters in the series.

I don't know much of the literature, but is Linda from one of the books or?

She's in Fall of Reach (the first book which is about 10-11 years old). She's one of the children John (Chief) goes through the program with. She's also a badass (well, they are all badass).

If you're going to read any Halo book, that's the one to read. And this trailer was definitely for fans who read it.

Definitely not the greatest Halo trailer, but a nice one nonetheless.

I wonder if the Chief will end up being captured in the game? Should be interesting to see how that scene plays out if it ends up happening.

I would not doubt he is captured at one point.

One thing I'm LOVING about 343 so far. They are actually acknowledging the fiction. Bungie strayed so far from the canon of the books in their games that it was infuriating. 343 has been knocking it out of the park so far, with adding Linda to Halo:CEA, to these shorts, the the FoD movie... all of it expanding on the canon from the fiction OUTSIDE the games, a.k.a, the good stuff.

Doubtful , Halo has always had its own look and feel eve though it borrowed aspects of other sci fi works. Just look at Blomkamp's works ,ODST,deliver hope, etc. Can't confuse that with anything but Halo .

Ah I'm not a reader unfortunately. Got 50 pages into Game of Thrones book 1, great thus far, but I just don't have much free time when I do I use it to play games. :(

All I know is that this trailer, Forward Unto Dawn, and listening to Neil's better than Marty OST...the wait for Nov 6 is torture.

What. She's in that? Damn. I need to play that.

They even did a respectable job of adressing the canon clusterfuck that was Reach. It's not perfect, and I don't like all of their design decisions, but they're okay in my book.

Neil's stuff is good for the most part from what i've heard so far, but better than Marty's scores? Not sure about that.

I though it was mentioned in one of the early novels.

In the novel they described him (as a child) to have brown hair, freckles, and a gap between his teeth.

That's the funny thing about people wanting to see his face, more than likely he just looks like a regular ass dude underneath the helmet. :P

What made you think that?

It's much better than Marty's work. I may actually not hate it if I can't turn the music off in Halo 4. Marty's cheese won't be missed.

Disagree there. Marty's music pretty much is Halo ,and there was nothing "cheesy" about it, it was far more distinctive and had more personality than the soundtracks of other action games. Like i said most of Davage's stuff sounds good but there are some tracks the sound abit too close to something out of a Bayformers movie.

Just got around to watching it, what's every bodies general opinion? I thought it was pretty good, also seemed pretty cryptic. At least to me -- someone who is a halo fan, but doesn't know all of the lore.

Bad enough to steal children from their homes, conduct wildy dangerous surgical experiments on them, and subject them to military training all of their lives.

And thats before the Aliens started their whole genocide thing. The Chief was trained to take out other people, colony farmers and workers engaged in rebellion: The insurrectionists, or "innies".
My Halo lore is definitely not the best. I know nothing about the books. The games, or at least I should say their environments, almost have a Star Wars prequels vibe. They're colorful and epic in scope. There's a real sense of space opera, even with the scenes on the human ships. However when I see the trailers, they look more like a dark cyberpunk or THX 1138. It just seems the consistency between the trailers and the actual games are quite stretched.

For a "Halo 4 launch Trailer"..
Well that sucked.
If i had to rate it. 4
DF what have you done.
*SMH*

Still pumped for Halo4 though, seen enough of leaked vids to please me. And,..better trailers.
