2:41PM EDT October 18. 2012 - Are you sure Hillary Rodham Clinton is running for president in 2016?

Be careful how much you bet on it.

The secretary of State told Marie Claire magazine she won't seek the presidency again in four years.

"You know?" she said. "I am not."
(The comments are at the end of the article.)

When asked "why not?" and that "everybody wants you to," Clinton responded: "I have been on this high wire of national and international politics and leadership for 20 years. It has been an absolutely extraordinary personal honor and experience. But I really want to just have my own time back. I want to just be my own person. I'm looking forward to that."

Clinton is planning to leave the State Department after this election, even if President Obama -- who beat her in the 2008 Democratic primaries -- wins a second term.

Rest assured, this will not be the last word on Mrs. Clinton and 2016.

But don't assume she's in.

Clinton did tell Marie Claire she hopes to see a woman president in her lifetime: "I'm going to be cheering them on. I hope to be around when we finally elect a woman president. That would be a great experience for me, to be up there cheering."

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
2016 Election cycle will be very interesting then. No way Biden makes a run, he'd have no chance. So two newcomers then...here we go.

I'd be surprised if they don't drag her in. She'll take a 4 year vacation and be ready to go. Kerry really wants the spot? I head some talking head blathering on about that earlier.

It'd be weird for her to say "Yes," considering she is still Secretary of State, but I can't a compelling reason not to take her word for it when she says No so unequivocally.

I can appreciate that. May have voted for her if she decided to run.

Jeez almighty, people, it's politics, of course she's going to say that. She's still SOS and it's 2012. Who wants to say they're running when the current Presidency isn't decided yet.

I have no idea what she's planning on doing (RUN HILLARY RUN!) but even if she have every plan to run in 2016 it's the right tactical move.
Once you mark yourself as a potential candidate, the other party will go after you, if they think you're not going to run, they'll likely use you as an example to how they don't hate everyone from the other side of the aisle (which is already happening with Clinton, and boy, is it fucking hilarious to anyone old enough to remember the 90s).

On the contrary, I think she is infinitely more likely to win in 2016 if Obama doesn't win, barring some sort of miracle Romney recovery.
The economy is most likely going to recover over the next 4 years regardless of who wins the election.
I mean, even Bush who enacted some pretty damn disastrous economic policies enjoyed economic growth after the crash of the late 90s (and 9/11).

Holy FUCK no. If Romney wins, he'll take credit for the 12 million jobs created and in the minds of the public they will see "Hey, I guess Supply Side economics DOES work" and we'll be set back ANOTHER thirty-forty years.

Pretty much, the economy will show growth over the next 4 years barring some other crisis and Romney will have an easy coast to reelection

Biden will be old as shit in 2016, very doubtful he'll try for the presidency.

Hillary will obviously run, I think she knows how big it'll be to become the first madame POTUS.

Obviously she's going to say she isn't going to run. Even the article quoted in the OP says "this is meaningless, check back in three years."

I remember her face during the Bin Laden raid. She looked horrified.

I know they've downplayed it, but this is the face my mom has when she's watching a car accident happen on the TV screen. Why would she want to do that to herself again?

I really think it's time to look for new faces.

Politicians value the legacy they leave, and if Clinton has the very real opportunity to become the first female president in 2016, then I'm inclined to believe she'll run.
