I think this is the direction I am going to go with.

Did you ever finish that starfighter?

Actually no but it's not forgotten. I worked on it a little tonight and it's changed a little. I had it on hiatus for a little bit while I got some bricklink orders in and then R2, B-wing and a few other sets got in the way.

I've made a few changes. The round engine I am going to do but on the next ship. This one I am toying with the idea of a similar style engine to the Falcon. The wings are also shorter at the front for stability and wide at the back for a more rounded look.

The grey grills will have transparent blue 1x2s behind them but I need to work out the shape tapering back into the cockpit area. If I can't get that right I'll go back with the round and then add in pods on the wings which I have now made removable complete with fuel hosepipes.

The two big wings both fold in on themselves and I have a few ideas of how to improve them slightly so it either reveals something useful when they open or is not so obvious in the first place.

It's looking good so far.

I'm hoping someone has taken the Space Marine and some assorted aliens and modified them into an X-COM vignette.

If anyone can get a pair of those Monster Fighters polybags from Target and send them to me, I'll pay you back. I can't find them at all...=(

Oh and this Sith ship is really really bulky and solid. I need to put together some of these Friends sets I have...

How is lego.com's shipping to Australia and New Zealand, does anyone know? Fast enough? The current offer of free shipping is tempting.....

Tempting me too but it's still truck loads cheaper to buy and ship from Amazon France.

Indeed - the pricing for NZ is insanely over-inflated given the poor US dollar right now, but Lego aren't bothering to take notice :(

Sadly, Shuttle Expedition isn't available here through retail and the grey-market (our version of Ebay) versions are more expensive than Lego.com. I'm still pissed they didn't have it in the store when I was in San Jose.

That's a set I'm keeping an eye on also. :)

Not sure the price on Amazon France but it's worth a look. It is definitely the best place for an Australian to buy Lego from.

Man there were Castle sets with Skeleton horses and Court Jesters and baby dragons and trolls. Just mounds of regrets hitting me now as I look through some sets I missed. Those sets seem really expensive now.

I think I am going to grab this set next:

http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Medieval-Market-Village-10193

The joust one looks sweet too:

http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Kingdoms-Joust-10223

Both awesome sets, you won't be disappointed! I have both, got the Market Village first and then the Joust set.

Unofficial Lego store is the best Lego store.

The set was $89 CDN...about $15 above its MSRP.

Edit: I posted that from my phone. Sorry for breaking the H scroll...fixed.

Hey fellow Lego lovers!

I need some advice... My neighbor last year gave my son a 18" x12" box of random Legos, but a lot of them are dirty enough that I don't feel like they should be played with until they're cleaned.

So what would be the best way to sanitize and remove grime from a lot of random Lego pieces.

Boil them in a pot? With some dishwashing detergent?
Run a hot bath with lots of shampoo or bubble bath or laundry detergent?

I have a stainless steel mesh strainer that I could use to scoop out a bunch of Legos after they've soaked for a while and use a plastic scrubber brush to abrasively remove the grime. But I don't want to discolor or scratch up the pieces too much either.

Any detailed instructions you all might have found in your years of collecting/buying Legos second hand from others you can share?

Thanks in advance. :)

For light grime, just try dish soap and warm (not hot) water with a non-abrasive sponge.

If the grime is heavier, I have heard recommendations of soaking in a 10:1 water/vinegar mix, then rinse and put in warm water/dish soap and then rinse again.

I wouldn't use anything abrasive on the bricks, as they can scratch quite easily. I would also test out the vinegar method with a few bricks first, as I have never used that method myself.

Thanks! Sounds like some good options to start with I think I might use a microfiber cloth under water and just rub and scrub the shit outta them bricks in the tub with warm water and dishwashing liquid. I'll test a few bricks in the sink first and see what works best. I'll let you guys know eventually what I did to clean this bunch of bricks!

I heard some people used a pillow case and put them in a washing machine. Then you could just soak them in dish cleaner to kill the remaining microbes.

Ooooooooo /Garfield "oface"

I like that idea! I could wash on gentle cycle with warm water and dishwashing detergent and they should all come out superclean. But the scratch factor!!! Argghhhh!

I think you misunderstood. You don't put all of the Legos in a pillowcase together. Each piece is put in a seperate pillow case then washed.

Let us know how it works out!

Yep! Was it you that originally recommended it a few months back? I can't thank you enough if so. Awesome store with amazing staff.
Yeah, that was me! I learned of its existence at BrickFete. I've only been there once, but I'm definitely going to have to make it down there again sometime soon. Any LEGO fan who lives in Southern Ontario NEEDS to visit this place. NOW.

I don't own it yet, but I'd say the LEGO Millennium Falcon #7965.

That is indeed a fantastic set. There are a lot of great Star Wars sets out right now. TIE Fighter, X-Wing, and Y-Wing are also great. Y-Wing seems to be the dark horse in that not as many people snagged it as they did the X-Wing, but those who got it really enjoyed the build. Lots of implied detail in the set using few pieces.

I definitely agree that the 2012 X-wing, Y-wing and TIE Fighter are amazing sets. I currently have all three on display and the Y-wing is definitely my favorite of the three.

All three sets add up to $164.97 MSRP on LEGO.com and contain a total of 1,431 pieces. If you shop around, like on Amazon.com, you could get them cheaper. But don't forget free shipping and double VIP points with LEGO until 10/31. So that's 328 VIP points which is $15 off a future LEGO purchase.

I think the Y-Wing being a TRU and Lego Store exclusive (with appropriate mark up for TRU) is what has made it a lesser acquired set. The piece count is low, but they maximize it to great effect.

TIE Fighter is an okay build, but looks awesome when done.

But as you pointed out before, the Millenium Falcon is a set to get. Great build, great display piece, and great mini figs. And in the end, also a great source for MOC pieces. (I would have to dismantle two MOC modulars to rebuild my Falcon.)

So Walmart has this set, 4204:

in an ad for $39.99. It retails for $99.99 at the Lego Store.

Some people think it may have been a mistake, but it is in their system at that price and has been ringing up at that for a couple of days now. I picked one up tonight and they rang it up no problem.

So that's one Christmas present for my son knocked out. :)

Gotta be a mistake. But shit, I'd pick one up at that price. I'm sure it doesn't apply to Canada though.

edit - yeah, it's $120 up here. Whee.

hmm.. the website says $89. I wonder if it's already been fixed in their computers? Other wise I'm going out right now to pick it up.

From what I understand, it's in store only.

Some people are trying shipping to store, and then get a match, but who knows how that would work. Some have had success with Target price matching if you've got the ad, but that's a YMMV.

There is a store stock checker on the walmart site. The two closest to me had none, but the third showed limited stock. That's where I found it on the shelf.

EDIT: WHen you look at the product page, there's a 'check other stores' button you can push to bring up a zip code check.

Yeah I found that, looks like it's been cleaned out in my area. LegoGaf, how did you let this deal go for 3 days before mentioning it??
