So could I ask everyone who your favorite writers and artists are? Being new and all I got the basic bog names down, but I'm curious to see who everyone likes most.

For me, I guess my writers would be Scott Snyder for Batman and American Vampire and Brian K. Vaughan for Saga. Artists I guess I would have to complete team Batman and say Greg Capullo.

My favorite writer is probably Garth Ennis. Now, out of his work i have only read The Pro, The Boys, Preacher and Punisher and some of them i haven't finished yet so i still got a lot of shit from him to read. His comics often are dirty, very violent and deal with controversial subjects. But even so, his work always has a lot of heart and humor behind it so at the end of day no matter how disgusting and dirty his stories are, they almost always pay off in a satisfying way and leave you with a good feeling.

Now, some of my favorite artists:

Amanda Conner - Her work is charming and it just works. And oh man would i like another PG ongoing with her as the main artist again.

Adam Hughes - Probably draws the prettiest ladies (Audrey Hepburn Catwoman is the best Catwoman) in the business and iirc he draw some interiors in JLI, can't wait to see how those look.

Alex Ross - His art looks bigger than life, truly epic and he deals with light (dat gold and chrome) like no other.

Cliff Chiang - I LOVE his WW, i haven't read much other comics other than WW which contain his work but god damn do i love his WW. His stuff looks clean and simple in a good way.

J. H. Williams III - This guy draws my favorite Batman, his panel layouts are crazy and he can draw the shit out dem shadows.

Top Ten Movies? In Order:
1. Magnolia
2. Kicking & Screaming
3. Barton Fink
4. Step Brothers
5. Raising Arizona
6. Rattalouie™
7. Rushmore
8. Up
9. Miller's Crossing
10. Cyrus

I don't have much to say about writers since I'm sort of new to comics. For artists, I really like Adam Hughes (agreeing with boinx, the prettiest ladies), J. Scott Campbell (not well liked on GAF I believe, but loved some particular art prints on Spidey), and Dustin Nguyen (loved his Batgirl and fanart).

Good question. I'd say my favourite writers are fairly obvious choices - Grant Morrison, (old) Alan Moore, BK Vaughan, Jon Hickman, Greg Rucka. Scott Snyder and jeff Lemire and my favourite up and comers. Anything by these guys is going to be very very good.

Artists? I think Jerome Opena is my new favourite, that guy is ridiculous in how awesome everything looks. Then you've got all the guys like Darwyn Cooke and Chris Samnee and Aja, I really dig that minimal, under-rendered style. JH Williams has never drawn a bad panel in his life. Frank Quitely has THE BEST body language and attention to detail in comics, fuck the haters. Brendan McCarthy because I like trippy shit. I wish Phillip Bond would draw more comics, he draws awesome girls. So does Jamie McKelvie. And Marcus To. Those three are my go-to artists for cute girls for sure.

And sure, it's actually porn but Guiseppe Manunta not only draws awesome tits but he has a great sense of comic timing and cartooning as well as having great colour work on his stuff. He's like Amanda Connor crossed with Jill Thompson but with (more) semen.

You need to read Hitman next.

As a new comic reader, I'm kind of with you.

The best thing you can do for yourself is just jump in. Just start and continue from where you are. Eventually you will understand all the little things along the way. If you need to know of an event in the past for a particular story, writers tend to be pretty good at letting you know the important details of that story in a brief way so you just know enough. If you want to go more in depth there are sites like Marvel wikia and comicvine that could help you. Hell, I am sure many of us here, myself included would love to help explain things as well. Hopefully with as little bias as humanly possible.

The only thing that I ask of you is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE figure what books you like out for yourself. Take recommendations from other people and whatever if you want, sure, but try not to take in any opinions on stories, writers, characters, whatever. Too many times have I seen newbies claim they like something or dislike something because they felt they were "expected to" and wanted to fit in with other comic readers. This is stupid. Don't ever do this.

As a new comic reader, I'm kind of with you.

Wikipedia makes it way too easy to get up to speed on the bottomless pit of nonsense that is American comic books. You've got it WAY easier than the generations of people before you trying to make heads or tails of this bullshit.

Man you should drawn that Hellraiser comic!

Haw! Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I'm nowhere near pro level. :X

So could I ask everyone who your favorite writers and artists are? Being new and all I got the basic bog names down, but I'm curious to see who everyone likes most.

Writers: Garth Ennis, Chris Claremont, Jeph Loeb, Fred Perry, Erik Larsen.

Artists: Arthur Adams, Doug Mahnke, Patrick Gleason, Alan Davis, Erik Larsen, Budd Root, Guy Davis, P. Craig Russell, Dan Brereton, Duncan Fregredo, Philip Bond, Gerry Talaoc, Wally Wood, Bernie Wrightson, Claudio Castellini, Stefano Caselli, Eduardo Risso, Ed McGuinness, Mark Schultz, Ivan Reis, Bruce Timm, Dave Johnson, Tony Harris, Will Eisner, Alex Toth, Keith Pollard, Ron Frenz, John Buscema, Bob Layton. . .

I need to stop. I can keep going. :X

...the ole infinity gauntlet play by play eh?

Dude, Thanos sucks so bad. I'm sure at some point he's going to just use the Infinity Gauntlet as a fleshlight to solve his case of Purple Chin Balls. I guess Thanos just set the precedent for Sentry. Actually, why is it that whenever Marvel rips off DC so blatantly the byproduct is a whiny ineffective shitty copy of Darkseid or Superman?

Wow!

Just. . . wow!

Avengers 2 is doomed if Thanos is the villain. :D

X-Men made Marvel. Even under complete sabotage, they manage to outsell Avengers. Avengers basically has to poach any good talent or characters that get big with the X-Men.

X-Men only returned to outselling the Avengers during the past year, after Bendis' run clearly had become just aimless and the last Avengers centered event (Fear Itself) had been a failure, and also limited in scope compared to the past ones, as far as tie ins with other franchises' books go. It was basically just an Avengers' event, rather than an event that made the entire MU spin around the Avengers, unlike previous ones. Even, say, Spider-man's series itself basically didn't acknolwedge it, in spite of Spider-man being an Avenger now. Same goes to many other solos, actually. Meanwhile, the X titles were continuing a build up of their own that had been going on for a while, also ignoring all that. There was no sabotage of the X franchise when it returned to outselling Avengers.

There was an effort to put the Avengers in the center of everything in the years before that, but the Avengers were outselling the X-Men during that Civil War->Secret Invasion->Dark Reign period, so that effort did work out for them.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUCK
Oh dear. Sorry. So, so sorry. :O

You're probably right about that one too, though. In fact, you're 100% right I'd say.

It was speculated heavily after previews came out last week, and Bleeding Cool pretty much confirmed it with their "Fifteen Thoughts" article today.

FF was spectacular. Bravo, Hickman. You wrote one of the top Fantastic Four runs of all time. Easily in the Top 3 behind Stan & Jack and Waid & 'Ringo.
