First Hitman: Absolution reviews hit

I defiantly know there are sandbox missions in there but how many is the main concern. Another is these checkpoints they mention, it sounds like you have a hit in a building. In order to get to the building you need to go through a town. Once you enter the building the checkpoint hits and you can't go back. That's what I'm assuming anyway.

I have played all the hitmans, my fav is 2. Derrick01 and you all stop your pessimism jesus christ. Absolution looks fine from all I have seen so far.

He'll never stop. He is a black hole of negativity about everything, I just avert my eyes when he posts cause it bugs the shit out of me. I try to remain optimistic, but noooooooooooooo Derrick wants to murder my good mood.

Well Derrick, I won't have any of that. I WILL AVERT MY GAZE.

You haven't been paying a lot of attention to it then. There is plenty to be concerned about still.
Such as? Checkpoints? Lack of Jesper Kyd? Easier stuff (that was said you can turn off and won't affect you on Professional mode for instance)?

Next thing you will be saying the game will be like this:

Give me a break man.

Agent 47 has infinite capacity to carry every weapon in his jacket. It destroys the concept behind two-handed weapons and using disguises with them.

Ignoring issues on a game and being willfully ignorant isn't going to do anyone any favors. I'd like to be optimistic about games too and I normally am until I start seeing previews and I cut through BS. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to ignore stuff like "there's too many forced action parts" and "the game has tons of hints and checkpoints and forgiveness" and keep being hopeful. After how this generation has progressed I'm not sure how anyone could remain that willfully ignorant.

Kyd isn't doing AC3. Still, seems like a busy man.

Ah, my bad.

I wanted to reiterate something said earlier: I know RPS mentioned that gunfights often proved "preferable," but that was the situation in other Hitman games as well. iirc, IO has said that the game can be beaten without firing a single shot, so whilst the game might encourage a gunfight, this is par for the course for the series.

As insightful as you often are, you do have a habit of confusing being pessimistic with being realistic.

Hi!

I'm a long time member of the Hitman forum. Here are the screens of the Playstation magazine.

There seems to be a lot of negativity around Absolution. Hope this read will change your opinion (a bit) ;)

Edit: for those who want to read. Go to the Hitman forum. It doesn't have a North Korean policy.

I haven't been following info on the game closely, but are people suggesting that replacing Hitman's save anywhere safety net (on the lower-than-hardest difficulty levels of prior games, at least) with checkpoints is a reduction in complexity?

Oh yeah. I'm not a True Fan™.

I'm not "willfully ignorant" if I'm still looking forward to something despite change.

Blood Money somehow is only around 82 on metacritic, the series itself never seemed like a critic darling. I wouldn't be surprised if Absolution is much higher even if the game itself isn't better.

Still, anything close to Blood Money and I will be in heaven.

I expect low 80s/high 70s for the Metacritic rating. You typically gotta slice off at least a full point from these initial review scores to get an idea where it will come to rest.

At least play Blood Money first so you can know what to expect from a Hitman game. If this turns out bad, which right now seems like a 50/50 shot of happening and increasing almost daily, then you'll probably think the franchise sucks.

Or worse you'll like it and that becomes what you expect out of the franchise...

Jesus christ, I see you're going in full hyperbole mode. I still remember in a Hitman Absolution thread when you said you were speaking for the true fans of the series and that Absolution is insulting and demeaning to "true" fans.

If Hitman Absolution doesn't do everything you want it to do perfectly you'll trash the shit out of the game, and from the looks of it if it isn't an exact rip of Blood Money that's going to be the case.

Waits six months to be approved for account.

First post is scans.

Second post is "Ban me".

C'mon son.

I managed to catch that review and I'm confused on one thing. It listed possible creative ways to kill someone and then said something like "in the old games you had to discover that yourself but now there's a big list of optional challenges to complete on each level".

It implied that it will actually tell you, or at least strongly hint, at a lot of ways to take the target out. You don't have to do them but if it still tells you that's a reeeeally bad thing.

Damn right I will. Sequels should improve on the last ones not make it worse, so if it is I will crush it into the ground.

You guys get a break though because I will not be buying this day 1 or anytime in the foreseeable future. So you can throw your jerk off parties in the OT without worrying about me trashing it if it sucks.

There's a separate challenges tab in the menu. You don't have to click to see what is possible.

Sorry for trying to add some value to this topic. I didn't know I wasn't allowed to post scans.

Frisian_Boy, before you call the policy "harsher than some of the users", I should tell you that it's not allowed because it's copyrighted material. They make their revenue from people purchasing magazines. Internet's one of the reason why loads of gaming magazines have died; posting scans will sure kill them further if everyone was doing it.

No, we are not harsh but we are humans and can, at times, be a bit rude when annoyed. You didn't annoy, and we are just warning you before you do so. No need to be sorry as you were not aware. We enjoy your enthusiasm and we hope you get some great, quality posts from us and we hope you do amazing.

Welcome to NeoGAF. Enjoy your stay and please, read the FAQ and please tell Hitman Forum we welcome you with open arms! :)

This is a game where playing on the hardest difficulty removes all assists and probably any hints whatsoever, I'd assume the 2nd most difficult difficulty does the same.

Jesus, there isn't anything wrong with having optional challenges listed. It's not like there's an infinite amount of ways to take out the target, but there is a lot. Just ignore the list, jeez.

Haha, there's nothing wrong with trying to add value to the topic, but nobody wants to see a junior get banned immediately, even if it is hilarious. Besides, I'm sure a ton of GAF users go to HF. I do once in a while...

Frisian_Boy.

I am reading the review now. It's getting me hyped up. The "Bits that make up Hitman" are pretty funny. No Country for Old Men, Bond, Bourne, Leon, and Batman. Not a bad pool of influences.

These were already in the Sniper Challenge and don't outright say what to do, just things like "It's a Trap - They don’t need more alcohol", which was for shooting a rope holding a lift of kegs up onto a guys head. The challenges were a ton of fun to knock out and I'm sure the full game will have a lot of oddball stuff.

It also has this great new feature where you press the button next to the list and it does all of it for you! The game plays itself!

Jesus, pull your head out of your butt, dude. You're slowly becoming a joke character. I'm also starting to suspect you don't like games.

Really? You're the one putting Blood Money on a golden pedestal like it's some flawless gem.

BYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEE We'll enjoy the circle jerks without you. Problem with you is that you go in expecting something to suck and look for things that confirm your initial perception no matter what.

Living in the past.

Is making jokes also against the rules?

;)

It was quite a bad one as well. I should be banned immediately.

If you wanna account suicide, fucking go out in style then. God, you're being lame.

It's one of the rare gaming classics so I don't have much to complain about with it. Maybe the controls are a little wonky on the 360 pad and there was 1 level that I did not like at all but that was it.

There were a lot of minor things wrong with Blood Money, but it was a superb game and had they improved on those flaws (some control issues, camera issues, length, number of costumes, some AI idiosyncrasies) and added new locations and plotlines, they would've made an incredible sequel. At its easiest, it was a pretty accessible game, and at its hardest, it was a fun, varied and open-world experience.

Annnnnnnnd they seem to have chosen to address other "issues". My hopes are higher than they once were, but ...

I look forward to getting this over Black Friday. It looks like a great game but I was never into Hitman so I'm wary of getting this day one.

Edit: If it gets a sale at all, considering it's releasing right before BF.

Don't know why I would do something like that. I read about something sucking and usually people are right or close enough to right and then I can back it up after I get my hands on it. If it seems like I do that every time then blame these shitty modern day developers/publishers who are so desperate to dumb everything down.

I'm thinking I might redbox this but I've never used one of those before, nor am I 100% sure there's a kiosk in my area. The review said it was only 11 hours long so I could knock that out in a couple of days.

Go over to that thread with the free Redbox codes. Plus you can look up Redbox locations on their website.
