Hi, My name is Dominic. Whats yours?

That's an awesome name and that's coming from someone named Guy.
At the very least, it means phoenix (or.. is a tree... but I'll take the mythical immortal bird meaning!).
Guy is also a pretty cool name! But I suppose you pronounce it as "gi" instead of "gai"?

Lmao. I always thought I was the John Smith of Vietnamese names being Tam Nguyen. It's one of the reasons why I go by the pseudonym Johnny, most people invariably call me John anyhow. I have an aunt named Phuong as well. That's how you know you're Vietnamese, you've got a relative named Phuong :l You should take a shot at the art thing BTW. My sister went to the School of Visual Arts for cartooning. Everyone in my family opposed it, but life's short; sometimes you gotta follow your calling. I'm sure Scorcho would tell you the same if he was still around :/
Yeah, you ain't got nothin' on Phuong Nguyen! XD I am so anonymous because of my name that I guess it's okay sharing it online.
I have 2 cousins named John~! One used to go by Johnny, but he's since gone back to his roots and is using his viet name, I think.

Well, my family wanted me to become a doctor (of course) and pressured me into a corner, whereby I decided to just pick psychology and Occupational Therapy because that was still healthcare-related, but more interesting to me--plus cheaper. I'm one of the eldest in my generation though, so a lot of my aunts and uncles were hoping I'd "lead the way" or make sure all the other children followed my academic achievements and become doctors or engineers or something as well. I kind of resented that, but now I also feel guilty I "let them down".

I think I still need to get my confidence and act together before I can throw myself into the professional world of art, but eventually I'll happen! It's really been my only ambition since the beginning, but I just love dabbling too much.

I have a cousin named Linh and another one named Phuong (and yes, Nguyen is my name). So your post freaked me out, but then I remembered my cousin is married, so she's probably not named Nguyen anymore.

But yeah, I freaked out a little. o_o
Do you also have one named Tuyet and one named Vu and one named Lien? XD I swear, there is so much overlap when it comes to vietnamese names! I don't know anyone else in my family who has signed up to GAF except my brother and sister.. Though maybe one of my cousins who used to go by Johnny might be the likeliest candidate..... >__>

I only say that bc I know 4 girls and 2 guys named Linh. At least I'm not a Nguyen. Too many of those.
According to wikipedia, 39% of all viet surnames are Nguyens.. o___o

i dont even know who that fuck is

you don't watch Mad Men? Daaamn, son!

Anyway, my name is Camilo (pronounced kah-MEE-loh) and here's probably the only good picture of my ugly self.

EDIT: A bit more information about me: I'm chilean, currently studing Laws (and I've never liked it very much) at (arguably) the best chilean university, Universidad de Chile. I'm an aspiring (emphasis on aspiring) writer/poet and I have a blog with some of my work, which is in spanish so most of you wouldn't be able to understand it, I guess. I don't consider myself a good writer/poet, but I try hard enough and sometimes, good things come out. Sadly, my law studies have fucked my creativity and after years of writer's block, only this year I have been able to conquer it partially. I'll just have to keep on going, I guess, and try to get better at it every day.

I have a little brother with severe autism. As my family lives in a (small-ish) city in northern Chile and I live in the capital, I don't see them much. When I first left my parents' home it was quite shocking and, frankly, depressing. But I got over it. I still miss them sometimes, though. Especially my brother. I just love his small (and usually rare) displays of affection... he has his own way of saying to me that he misses me. And sometimes, the only thing I'd like to do is to hug him for minutes.

I visited England in 2005 (Salisbury and London, mainly) and Canada (Edmonton) last year. I definitely want to go back to both of those places. Loved them both and have really fond memories of both travels.

If you want to know something else about me, something not very private (sorry guys and gals!), I would be glad to reply.

Cheers, GAF.

At the very least, it means phoenix (or.. is a tree... but I'll take the mythical immortal bird meaning!).
Guy is also a pretty cool name! But I suppose you pronounce it as "gi" instead of "gai"

Actually its pronounced guy like "that guy on the street" or "hey guy". I love the name because it is so unique.

Hi, I'm Sabbir. I am 31. I think I've been on GAF since like 2000 or something. I don't post as much as I used to, or actually feel like part of a community as I used to, mostly because GAF grew too big and I do not play games at all anymore. Back in the days I was a huge gamer.

I am originally from Bangladesh, but I have lived in NYC most of my life and I love this city. I am an Engineering Manager, with an MBA, but I constantly wish I was involved in a creative industry, unfortunately, like many, I can't afford to quit my job and follow my passions. I used to write, but even that I haven't had much time for lately.

I have been happily married for almost 3 years to a wonderful woman who puts up with me. Like my GAF name suggests, I am a perpetual loner, so I have no clue how I got lucky! Some of you guys yet have a chance!

Hi, my name is Andreas.

I come from Norway, but is currently studying a year in California. Here is a picture I just took just for you guys:

Some really nice artwork in here :)

My name is Melanie, I am 29, and have lived in western PA my whole life. I have a degree in animation, and I plan to go into games, but I have been set back unfortunately due to illness. I don't post too much since I have a lot of social anxiety issues that extend to online as well, but I am working on trying to improve that.

As far as games go, I love horror and Nintendo games, and I am currently working my way through SMT Nocturne (I recently decided to stop my long-time refusal to play any non-Pokemon RPGs because I don't like Final Fantasy...don't ask, there wasn't really any logic in it).

A picture from not too long ago. I need a camera that isn't my phone.

Hello GAF, my name is Josh and I'm 19, currently studying Mechanical Engineering. I was born, raised, and still remain in Kansas. I mostly lurk on GAF but I frequent the anime thread and random threads on gaming side. I primarily roll with Nintendo/PC of infinite backlog, though I figure I'll pick up a PS3 when it gets cheaper. I'm not very good at these kind of things so I guess my introduction will be short, and without a picture because I doubt I have a good one :)

My 4 year old is currently battling ALL T-Cell Leukemia and undergoing massive chemotherapy that will go on for 3 years. She's officially in remission, but they still have the treat to ensure that it doesn't come back.

I can't imagine what that must be like as a parent. I'll send a little extra positive energy your way.

I'm Jon. Live in Austin, TX
I went to Florida State University and am a diehard Noles fan. Support the Orlando Magic (hometown)

Hey man, I went to FSU as well. I graduated in 2001! I never really got the school spirit. I spent a number of years living just outside of Orlando and went to a lot of home games for the Magic. Those were the pre-Shaq days when they were pretty terrible. I don't watch pro-basketball anymore though.

I also spent some time in Texas - living about 30 minutes or outside of Dallas. A nice state, though a bit dry in the summer.

The cat in your avatar is gorgeous, KuroNeeko.

She's got a heart as black as her fur. Actually, she's got some social problems as well. I saved her when she was just a kitten. I found her in a rainy gutter covered with fleas. Her eyes hadn't even opened yet. She's been having trouble adjusting to my 2-year old son and gets jealous of my wife. I love her to death, though. Thanks for the compliment;D

My name is Jesse, I'm 25 and I'm from the UK. I don't post much but I like to check GAF almost everyday. I moved to South Korea about two months ago to teach English for a year and it's the best thing I've ever done. I like that I have no idea what I want to do with my life, I'm living in the present for the first time ever and it's amazing! I might stay in Korea longer, or teach elsewhere, or go back home when my contract is up but there's no game plan.

Hey GAF :D

My name is Luke and I'm 20 (21 in 3 weeks)
I am currently on a working placement at a game development studio for my Games Software Development University course in Sheffield, I'm originally from Nottingham so I haven't really moved around much.

Nice to meet you all, Ill update with a picture once I find one i approve of :P

Hi my name is Kyrill and I am 26 years old. I am a eldery year student(which means 5th years or later) of a study called Media and Entertainment Management. I registered for GAF this May and was accepted around August I think. I like to listent to music a lot, read books, write stuff(which I don't do often enough) watch TV shows Forbrydeselen II, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, Homeland, Curb Your Enthusiasm and many more and I love to watch movies. I have like almost 700 dvd's all bought in a store somewhere. My favorite book is Kafka on the Shore(thnx GAF for the Haruki Murakami topic!!) favorite movie is American Beauty and favorite tv show The Sopranos closely followed by Six Feet Under. After I graduate which hopefully will be around next february-april I want to become a writer and thinking of joining a parttime writersschool in our capital Amsterdam. I live in a town called Rijswijk which is pretty near to The Hague. If you have any quetions let me know :) I am single but I am making progress with the lady's more and more but not fast enough but I liek it this way. The picture is me performing some of the proza I wrote 2 years ago. Everyone else was playing guitar or singing I cant do neither but I performed short proza that I wrote.

Hi, I'm Nathan. Here is a picture of me I deem acceptable, and one I do not.

I study English Literature & Creative Writing at a university in Twickenham, London. I have a girlfriend, our third anniversary is on the 4th November. I have two brothers - one of who also posts here - my mum and my dad, and a gorgeous golden retriever.

I support Manchester United, and most my posts are in the football thread. I love movies. I love music, Bob Dylan and Radiohead specifically. I love Chinese food. I love coming up with new names for penises.

Despite having quite the annoying, vulgar, immature posting style (G-Fex come back to me <3), I'd like to think I'm an okay guy. Love the GAF community. I really do. Cheers guys.

Is your second name Bell?

hey guys, the names Josh, im 21 and live in Geelong, Australia.

I love football and support the Melbourne Victory and the Mighty Manchester United.
just been working and saving money but am currently applying for the navy. been with my lovely lady since i was 14 :D

I am the one they call Wayne. I'm from London but now live in Oxford. 40 later this year (damn) and got married this year too. I've been a lurker for so many years now. I can count the number of post on both hands, but this place is great.

I have a Vu, and the rest... well, maybe, to be honest I've lost track on an important part of my family since we're settled both in Europe and in the US.

Reminds me of this picture :

The rest of us don't? That sucks!

I can't see your pic from here :(

Awesome thread, and nice way to get some more background info on people.

I'm Hidde, 26 years old, and I live in Amsterdam. I've been lurking GAF since 2004 or so and been a member for about ten months. Still lurk more then I actually post.

I work parttime at a gym, officially at the reception/bar. I just finished my degree in journalism (took me a loooong time...) Besides that I study psychology, and plan on becoming a sportspsychologist. I spend a lot of my time dancing, doing sports, enjoying Amsterdam. And once in a while I pop in Xenoblade. Been the only game, together with StarCraft 2, I bought in the last six months. Not enough time and money in the world.

I came here for gaming, stayed for the OT. As most people here, probably. I mostly lurk the Dating Age and Fitness forum, and PoliGAF. GAF is perfect for keeping up with US politics.

One of the few decent recent photo's of me. And I don't even like BBQ's...

Are you planning on traveling from Rijswijk to Amsterdam everyday, for the writers course. Or are you moving to Amsterdam? Is it at UvA or something?

Are you planning on traveling from Rijswijk to Amsterdam everyday, for the writers course. Or are you moving to Amsterdam? Is it at UvA or something?
It's only a maxium of 2 times a week on Mondays and perhaps also on Saturday. So I plan just to travel it. Its parttime so the other 3/4 days I have to find a job to work at or study for it. No its not really a university like Uva or VU its called ''Schrijvers vaksschool'' in English Writers School or something like that. I dont think its either HBO, MBO or University.

like first post I'm Dean and also 19 :o

UK, North West. Work full time as a waiter in a hotel. I mostly visit POPGAF and the OT forum, never on gaming side due to not being interested in gaming anymore. Hiiiiiiiii gaf

Howdy all, I'm Ben. 18, turning 19 next month.

I'm a freshman studying under Virginia Tech's engineering program, leaning towards electrical. Right now my friends and I are trying to decide on which apartment to buy for next year. Classes aren't that hard yet, and I'm having fun here adapting to a new home of sorts. I am excited for Thanksgiving break in 3 weeks, as I get to see my family for the first time in what seems like forever.

As for GAF, I like to stay in the music threads. I've become extremely invested in hip-hop over the last year so I'm in the GAF-hop thread a bunch as of late. I haven't legitimately gamed (read:hardcore) in about two years, but I'm steadily getting more involved with gaming side as the Wii U launch nears. It's exciting.

Here's a vaseline-smeared, instagram-filtered photo of me, taken by my lovely sister:

Hello Dominic. My name is Ryan.

This is me and my little clone. It's basically like looking at me @ 33 and me @ 4 in the same picture.

"Ben Graven" was the pen name I was using for the first ten years of my attempts at a writing career. He later became a reoccurring character in my stories and novels.

The Legend.

Hi my name is Kyrill. My favorite book is Kafka on the Shore(thnx GAF for the Haruki Murakami topic!!)

You ever read Hardboiled Wonderland? That's my favorite of his. A pretty crushing novel but I loved it all the same.

Please tell me you've played 999 and have VLR coming. You should post more. I think there are quite a few people on GAF who've struggled with social anxiety and have made a ton of progress since. Jipan and even Evilore come to mind. Try to attend a GAF meet up or something

Yep, the pains of growing up first generation Asian, lofty expectations and guilt tripping all come with the territory. Luckily for you, you can reman secure in your health related field and work on your art on the side. It's nice to have something secure to fall back on in case things don't work out

Great idea for a topic. Kind of eye opening for me, as for some reason I always view message board posts being written by white males like myself for some reason. Possibly because I read the posts in my mind with my voice. No idea. One of those weird internet oddities I never gave too much thought about.

Anyhoo, my names Joey (yup using my real name as my GAF name anyways). I live in Mississauga, Ontario. Here's a pic of me doing my CliffyB impression last winter at a Microsoft store in Toronto

Sup all! Name's Jack (shocker). I live in Chicago, 34 years old, married and am currently in video game production. I used to be a musician, working mainly on remixes for various record labels and performing live. I've gotten out of the music scene and currently just help friends looking to break into the scene. Other than that, I'm a fairly normal guy. I like tattoos, motorcycles, have been studying various martial arts since I was 9, I'm a type 1 diabetic and I love animals.

I'm Brian. 25 years old with a 8 month old son named Owen. Currently a Security Officer trying to get some experience under my belt. Want to be a Police Officer when its all said and done. I live in a suburb of Jacksonville, FL called Orange Park. I just bought a new car! 2012 Dodge Charger(its so boss, i love it). I live with my g/f in our 2 bedroom apartment. I think thats general enough.

Where does your family live? My girls family is in Antofagasta. Sounds shitty being away from your family and little bro like that. :(

I'd love to visit the country one day.

Might as well...

Name is Frank, just turned 28, and I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. I lived in the half-way house to the US (Miami, FL) for 10 years, and crossed the border into NC (Raleigh) last year. I work for one of the naughty big 4 banks, and have been very blessed in my 2 years with them. Will be doing commercial real estate analysis for the team here in North Carolina.

I actually love Finance and economic history. The games I play are mostly tycoon/business/trading sims, but I'm occassionally blown away by western RPGs, and stuff like Red Dead Redemption. My passion for videogames got ignited by MGS1, and I even did some tribute videos that are floating around the net. That's because on the inside, I want to be a movie director. I will be doing a documentary film about the Dominican Republic, its sights, and its people.

Found GAF about 8 years ago, because I was a huge Sony fanboy in gamefaqs. Neogaf showed me the err of my ways. Now I mostly post in finance related stuff, sporadic topics, and in Dating-Age (because we Dominicans have a false sense of confidence when it comes to women).

p.s. contrary to what the local science fans here may believe, I'm one of the most liberal progressive guys you'll meet.

Ok, here we go.

Hi guys, my name is Daniel, I'm 28, from the city of Vila Velha/ES - Brazil. I live in a beach, but it doesn't make my life as fun as it may sound.

Here's a cool pic of the place:

praia20da20costa.jpg

And this is the ugly me:

5587592228_4bff46861b.jpg

Don't let yourselves be fooled by my (maybe) bad man's face. I'm actually a very shy and calm person. I enjoy games, photography, books, writing, stargazing, and I'm the type of guy who let the mouth shut if I don't have anything to say (wich is rare here, and because of that people tend to think that I'm a sad person, but I'm not ¬¬). I'm a repository of useless information.

I'm here on GAF since 2007, but not as a regular poster. I decided to post more this year to practice my english skills (and to improve it), but sometimes I feel my head spinning because of the language. I've never felt home here on Gaf, I think that this forum is too big, too fast, It's too crowded, and I hate crowded places. It's not that I like to be the center of the attentions (in fact, it's the oposite), but I never felt Gaf as a warm place, like home. But since the creation of the "BrazilGAF" I started feeling more at home. I love to talk and learn about different people and cultures. So, as soon as I feel myself confortable with the fast pace from here (I'm a slooooow person), I'll start enjoying GAF even more.

Well, nice to meet you! :)

I'd love to visit the country one day.

My family lives in Calama, which is actually in the same region as Antofagasta (250-ish kilometers away). I was born here (not the mine itself, but the town next to it

)

So your gf's chilean? That's nice! Where do you live? I'm sorry if you've already replied to this, I haven't been able to read the whole thread yet :(

Also, the country's nice. It has its shortcomings, of course, but there's plenty to see and experience. You have the driest desert in the world in the north and you have beautiful forests and fjords in the south, and lovely valleys and vineyards in the central part of the country. So I hope you're able to visit Chile one day :)

I haven't played 999 yet. It didn't initially look interesting to me, but I have heard a lot of good things about it. Alas, I have no extra game-buying money right now, but I'll look into it when I do. I would definitely like something horror-esque on my 3DS (so far all I have are the Dementium games).

I'll try to post more, and I would go to a GAF meetup, but the closest city to me where there would be one is Pittsburgh, and unfortunately, that is too far as of right now.

Aww, she is lucky you found her.

The cat I used to have was like that with me. When I went off to college he had to learn to like the rest of my family. My general experience is that cats tend to pick one person they like, whereas dogs love anyone who will pay attention to them.

Hi! I'm Holly. I've actually been here since 2010 but I'm a busy mom of two beautiful boys that keep me going. I love photography and art and creating new things. I am in no way a professional at them, but I have fun just the same. It's great to meet you all! This has been a fun thread. A great idea!

Ah yeah, it's a visual novel/ adventure game, so likely pretty from what you're used to. I wouldn't let that sway you too much because the game is only $15 on Amazon and just about everyone who's tried it has been blown away by it (with a few exceptions). I think Aksys had a demo on their site, not sure if its still up though. And yeah, I hope you do post more and get out there a bit

No I haven't. But I heard great things about it. I might start buying/reading it someday! Did you even like it better than Kafka on the Shore?
I've read just about everything he's written and it's amongst my favorites, yeah. It's a dual narrative, similar to Kafka, and pretty damned surreal, so I think you'd enjoy it. I wasn't too taken by Kafka to be honest. After Windup-Bird Chronicle, it's hard to be impressed by his later works as they aren't anywhere near as ambitious. I have 1Q84 but still haven't gotten around to reading it so I'm not sure if that statement will be redacted in the future.

Thats funny. I just was disappointed with the Wind Up Bird Chronicle. After Kafka I figured I would take it as a master piece but overall it was decent but not quite as good as I expected. Yeah I got 1Q84 as well, got it for my birthday from my cousin. I have a long list of books to finish before I start with that one.

I like this thread.

Hello, I am Gavin.
I am Canadian.
I like video games like most of you.
I'm doing my best to make a career with music, right now writing music for Dudebro 2 and playing in a band. Hopefully will study music next year in school.
I joined GAF in 2008 I believe. I've also met quite a few GAFers IRL.
