I suppose they are banning the harmful real comments people are doing no?
Because I havent seen nearly anyone that loves that character, and I have pretty fanatic new final fantasy friends (by new I mean people who only play the 3D ones not called FFIX and Kigdom Heart games).
Please, if someone here posts something against the character, tell it, and we will see if they are banning those types of comments.

Perhaps they think we'll love the character if they try hard enough.

I actually didn't mind Lightning too much in XIII.
It was like she was a decent character stuck in a mediocre story.
Actually, that's how I felt about the entire party, save Vanille, who's just flat-out annoying.
But then, after all her "I'll make my own fate!" and "We won't bow down to a higher power!"
All of a sudden in XIII-2 she's all, "I am a servant of the goddess! Gods and predestination are awesome!"
It was like she was a decent character stuck in a mediocre story.

To bad they will never return with something more fun adventure and less "serious, main character is all sad" story.

I thought Squall was a compelling character who had more depth than others gave him credit for. On fairly recent reflections, I thought he had more depth than Cloud in FF7. I also feel that many overlook the fact that his character is 17. That's important. Haven't played FF13 yet, so I don't know a great deal about Lightning. We shall see.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your comment with regards to stuff you'd get banned on GAF for (you're not namecalling or calling her derogatory terms). They're being extra-sensitive and it's weird.
they're probably using this to justify the Lightning Returns sequel and motivate the devs.

The problem I have with Lightning (and every character since FFIX) is the voice acting.
The voice acting for me, can make or break a character. I can imagine Yuffie (FFVII) becoming a super irritant if they'd have voiced her as no doubt they'd choose to voice her like Vanille.

I dunno, maybe Lightning is just more fresh in a lot of people's minds? Lightning opened up fairly early in the story (she opened up before I stopped playing anyway lawl) and before she did she usually didn't say much of anything. Granted I didn't play to the end and didn't play XIII-2 at all but still. I could respect the "don't say anything because you have nothing nice to say" stance she took until she and Hope started their particular stuff (and then I could actually tell she felt bad for the little scrub after what just happened).
Squall complained a ton and was just angry in general to me throughout the game (I still remember his rant to Rinoa + friends during the train mission and Lightning doesn't have any emo-esque quotes that will stand up to Squall's). I know he kind of "balanced out" Zell's hyperactivity and Selfie's cheerful idiocy, but it was still pretty thick and Squall seemed to start "tolerating" everyone moreso than being friendly. I'm still trying to figure out why Rinoa exactly fell for him actually.
Don't get me wrong, I will take 8's cast any day over 13's (Snow is probably my least favorite party member in any FF yet) but as far as Lightning goes S-E could have done much worse.

"She is the face of the Japanese videogame industry" when they announced Lightning Returns lol.
They're not approving comments that are negative.
I was reading somewhere that the English translation is partly to blame for that, mainly for translating a lot of his sarcastic remarks as "Whatever." I have a feeling Neku from The World Ends With You is probably closer to how he was supposed to come off.
I think it's pretty telling that the other characters have their personality traits exaggerated when they make crossover appearances, but Squall is actually toned down.
Good thing non-official forums exist. Or that is what we'd be left with.

I really liked Lightning at first. She was bitter and she hated Final Fantasy XIII just as much as I did. Then she continued talking and I realized what an airhead she was. Snow on the other hand...well, Snow is the real protagonist. He went through the exact opposite transition for me. I hated him with a passion at first but through his actions I grew to love him. Until he changed his hairstyle in XIII-2. That game should have been aborted 4 Ever.
By the way, the strongest female lead is actually Terra.
