"Buy It"

Pros:
+ Fun, daily training
+ Deep challenges to stretch all aspects of mental capacities
+ Natural use of all features of the Vita
+ Plenty of challenges offered through Near and Smart As World

Cons:
- Some challenges are very difficult even on easy
- Use of AR cards can be inconvenient

Sounds pretty good actually. There will be a trial on PSN so looks like you should definitely give it a try

'No one will confuse AC:L to AC3' .... yeah that's what's wrong with the graphics.

Not exactly a fair comparison to make either. The end of a console gen with everything being squeezed out of it against a handheld just starting to come into its own.

Anyway the takeaways for me from the IGN review are that I'm disappointed the story sounds quite rushed and the whole personas thing not being utilized, personally I thought those were the two biggest things it had going for it.

Playing Vagrant Story on Vita.. what's up with springting? Seems like it randomly enables, what's up with that? Also, is there a way to make a PS One game full screen? There doesn't seem to be an options menu like with the PSP.

Hold the touch screen to enable the options.

As for sprinting, I haven't played VS but it sounds like you may be accidentally touching the back touch pad?

Didn't even think of that tbh. I was more on the lines of a 'game designed for stronger hardware & by a team at least 10 times the size' won't be confused to it's much smaller cousin.

Like I had no idea people were actually comparing the two.

Meanwhile, if there was an iOS version, it would get 10/10 and not be compared in any way to PS3/360 AV games.

Been out and bought these to get AC with tomorrow <3

Lol. Well I would imagine the person reviewing the iOS version won't really come from 'hardcore' stock.

Then again, I had no idea they do iOS reviews :S

No NFS vita reviews yet either :/

Here's my review then.

NFS:MW is Burnout Paradise's little brother, great game but not quite on its level. Still a lot of fun though, Autolog is cool, online works well and a lot of cars to drive and upgrade. Graphics are on Uncharted-level, IQ isn't perfect but still looks impressive. Even if Paradise City was more varied and fun to explore, there's a lot of content and stuff to do in Fairhaven.

8.5/10, go out and buy it if you have even mild interest in open-world or racing games.

Wow, Parish comes off as a giant douchebucket.

He's implying Sony forced Ubisoft to include touch gimmicks. I'm assuming this is just crazy talk?

Actually from what I know about Sony's dealings with Devs they do tend to force them to include things like that. I remember when Sony announced Resistance 3 would have Move Support before they told Insomniac that they would have to include it. They also forced Nihilistic to use as much of the touch screen as possible for Resistance (the touch to throw grenades was one of the most awkward parts of that game.)

Sold.

Sony's not exactly undeserving of the PS3 vs. Vita comparisons. Especially when their tagline for Vita is "Console quality gaming on the go".

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you were quoting someone who was comparing the two.

I want to say I heard an interview with the guy behind the Vita Abe's Oddysee said that they asked Sony whether they should include that kind of stuff and they said 'absolutely not'. I think it was on the PSnation podcast.

1UP gave AC3:L a C. The reviewer actually complained that there weren't enough racial slurs...

His wider point about games glossing over unsavoury facts of history still ring true, though. I think his review is more of a negative feeling towards what he obviously feels is a very jaded formula in AC.

It's a provocative review if nothing else.

I still see myself buying ACL when it comes down a bit. :)

I only bought Super Crate Box and it reminded me of why I just don't play games on my phone. You see all there is to see in about 10 minutes, and then it just bore me to tears.

It was only 7MB but I was still glad to retake that space on my memory card. :(

Hopefully when the store opens up we'll see some games with more depth. I'd love to see VVVVVV or 10000000 on the platform.

I don't like scb too, trust me and buy aqua kitty, you will not regret it ;)

Okay so i've come up with a solution. It's my 21st birthday in 2 weeks. The solution is - you lot can buy me Smart As for my birthday.

Just talked to Tamaster on twitter and he agrees you should definitely do this.

Thanks ;)

obviously i'm joking

It sometimes seems it's harder for portable games to get good reviews. Assassin's Creed has had similar problems in the past (especially framerate ones), yet somehow Liberation is 7.2 while, for example, the first game was a boring pile of shit yet it got hyped to high heavens and got, like, a 12.9/10 from IGN.

Yeah, the thing I've noticed with the guys at IGN Playstation is that they seem to have gotten a bit jaded with the Vita and it's games lately. Initially they were super hyped/supportive of it, now we're getting lots of "this shouldn't be on the Vita" or "this isn't as good as the console version" statements. I really like those guys but lately I've been feeling a pretty negative vibe from them (on their podcast) when it comes to Vita games.

One thing that is worrying about their new review layout is the appearance of the infamous "you'll like this if you liked these games" ... really?

One more thing - is Smart AS really a retail game? I'm going to get it at some point, it looks brilliant and fun, and I love John Cleese!

If PSN had a gifting system someone probably would've bought you it lol

If only we had Wake Up Club ...

I'd totally use my Vita as my 2nd or 3rd alarm. I really do need that many... 8)
Though maybe the idea of trophies for waking up on time would get me going. Though trophy-hunting to get the "holy shit! I'm late for work and going to get fired achievement" might be dangerous.
Now to figure out how to get a game that will give me achievements for eating better and exercising.

True story, apparently LovePlus for 3DS has player encouragement things to help them exercise.

The question is though, when you get all of the trophies, do you suddenly go back to being a sleepy bum?

I know I would :(
