Halo live-service multiplayer game "releasing in 2026" - Rebs Gaming

If this is the one led by Max Hoberman of Certain Affinity (and also, lead developer of Halo 2 multiplayer) I think we're in good hands.

To be honest I could see it be more like what they did with infinite. Basically have it be a decoupling of Halo's multiplayer from the campaign permanently. If you want Halo multiplayer you play that game and if you want campaign Halo you buy the Halo campaigns.

It could work if done right too. You would no longer have the splitting of the player base up between games because it would just be a constantly updating multiplayer that introduces new weapons, modes, vehicles, etc over the years. Now will it be done right? I have zero faith in that.

With Halo Studios remaking the original in Unreal Engine (which I think looks absolutely fantastic), I'm getting the feeling that after Halo 4, 5 and Infinite that the series is going back to its roots.
Another looks great in screenshots and curated videos and in reality, in motion, is full of artefacts and other clear signs of UE5 troubles like most games. UE5 is bullshots the engine…

Nah, if anything I think they are just going more and more off in a tangent :/…

I feel like there is still room for a futuristic yet still somewhat grounded live service military shooter, Halo might just be that game if they don't mismanage it

Im gonna put it this way, last time halo was part of culture/worldwide phenomenon was back in 2010 with halo reach(91 meta), from that point on aka in 2026 it will be fricken 16 long years halo became irrelevant, especially for younger audience that is 90 if not 95% of fortnite audience.
Halo name means jibberish for majority of today's teens and young adults even in the gaming community, which means live-service game in that universum wont have any benefit coming from its name/ip coz thats when us- older folks cared about it, and old farts like us- we hate gaas genre with a passion on top of having no time for this(playing hundreds of hours monthly in 1 game for few years).

Its basically game for no1, depending on the budget could be microsoft's concord even in terms of a flop :P

But I thought Halo Infinite was going to last ten years as a live service game?
Probably shocked over the population went away, and too stupid to figure out why.

Loved Infinite mp the first month, then the lack of content kicked in, and then people left en masse. The fundament were great, but they screwed up by not having enough content.

Also, I speak for the online, not the dog shit campaign.

Isn't this their second "Fortnite, long term, live service" game?

God, these idiots don't have a single original idea on their head, what ever they think it makes money they just think "hey! We have a recognizable IP. Why don't we show horned it into that? It will makes tons of money!"

I hate 343/Halo Studios so much, I can't wait for the bigger fishes at MS just plug the plug on all gaming for the lack of money and kick all of them

They murder Halo, they deserve nothing

And what exactly made you think this time would be different from all the other times? What changed this year that could make a difference from before?

Yes, that's the one, Project Ekur. Reports were it's the Project Tatanka Battle Royale which was rebooted as an extraction shooter. Will still have multiple multiplayer modes.

It was the slipspace engine and the studio workflow that prevented content for the live service game. They learned their lesson. So switched to Unreal 5 engine, and more permanent employees (Certain Affinity) backed up with contractor support studios like Virtuos rather than individual contractors.

Halo Studios will oversee the multiplayer and handle the campaigns internally. Certain Affinity is doing the multiplayer.

A halo guy I follow on tweeted something that is not the CEmake will be at the TGA's. He's not a known leaker but it kinda seems like if he's putting himself out there for the first time, it could be something.

They put the final season on a timer for 10 years lol
I just miss playing Halo 2 multiplayer. I spend thousands of hours playing that online in college.
MCC is having a small resurgence and is $10 on Steam rn

I don't have a modern xbox or PC so I'm stuck waiting for Steam Machine

What other times? Infinite had solid gameplay but failed largely because of piss poor post launch support and lack of content and was plagued with technical issues because of spaghetti code engine, that should no longer be a problem for them now that they know what to avoid and have a better engine to work with

remember when Halo Shitfinite was the live service multiplayer game that was Halo for the next decade

Beyond 343's incompetence, people don't want to play Halo MP anymore. It's old, just like how nobody wants to play Quake or Unreal multiplayer anymore.

That's why the rumors are the Multiplayer reboot is an extraction shooter. Likely with Battle Royale and other modes too.
