Eazy E is the best rapper of all time

OP why would you do this.

Rappers are like pokemon. Once you go legendary it isn't as simply as saying which one is the best.

That's a valid point, but you have to acknowledge that he batted 2 for 2 in terms of just albums. Ready to Die and Life After death are two of the best rap albums of all time. Who knows, maybe he would have went downhill fast like many other rappers, but it's not really fair to play the "what-if?" game. Based on his work's consistency, limited as that work may be, I don't see it all that odd to put him in that top spot, or near it.

No. He went downhill on his second album. Listen to enough rap music and you eventually realize he's not even top 20. He's not even better than the rappers who inspired him.

If Orson Welles only made Citizen Kane, would he be the best?

"listen to enough rap music"? callin bullshit here man, you gotta name your top 20 list that he ain't on.

There's nothing really left to say, because you clearly have a different view of what "good rap" is from me.

I feel Biggie easily has the best style, delivery, lyrics, and tone to give me a story that I will never forget every time I listen. Beats always vary like any other rapper, but I think Ready to Die was the pinnacle of his two album discography, and Life After Death was an amazing album that gave Biggie some more creative liberties that branched some of his style off and gave him some variation.

If Orson Welles only made Citizen Kane, would he be the best?

Best what? Director, actor, writer?

haha....oh im sorry his life was cut short so he can go on to make more music. every hiphop artist agrees BIG is the GOAT!

Out of respect maybe. Dude left a huge footprint.

Giving him the auto GOAT because he's dead is like if Wu made 36 Chambers and quit music, then calling them the best group

Say Ready To Die was a great album, but saying best artist implies that there is a catalogue to warrant that, some breadth.

exactly, and not living to fall off/make weaker shit really helps that, fair point - if wu stopped at 36 & Forever i dont think many would put any group over them, that era when RZA did all the classic solo shit (Liquid Swords, Tical, Iron Man, Cuban Linx etc) was untouchable for me.

i can respect that ; )

This is another argument, but for the sake of discussion let's say 36 Chambers is universally agreed to be the best album of all time by a rap group (not solo artist). How would that not make them the best group of all time? Even if there's a group that has the second and third best rap group album of all time, they don't have the overall best.

EDIT: I think I misinterpreted the intentions of the post I quoted, but I'll leave this up anyway.

If Nas died after Illmatic, you think people would holder in higher regard like Biggy?

Like, if he just did one perfect album and that's it, that would ensure him on a "GOAT" list higher than say, Ghostface Killah who's been doing pretty damn solid rap albums consistently for the past decade or so? Is one 10/10 > several 8s and 9s?

Muthafuck Dre, Muthafuck Snoop, Muthafuck Deathrow
and yo here's come my left blow
Cuz I'm the E-A-Z-Y-E and this is the season
to let the real muthafuckin Gs in.

Youtube comments wrecked this song for me. It's all I hear now.

I think a lot of people still hold him in high regard. He still is referenced when people talk about the best rap album of all time, but to be honest, yes I think he would have more respect overall right now. I think long term though after he does die and a lot of the past is muddied by time, he will be considered one of the best.

If we've learned anything from this thread, it's that nothing will ever touch 90's hip-hop

Yeah, 90's is the best era for a lot of my favorite entertainment stuff. Best rap, best pro-wrestling, best alt-rock, great sports, and lots of other stuff.

Nas is overrated

How? He made one of the best rap albums of all time, and a lot of people still see him as a joke because of what a tremendous failure he was after that album. I think the comments on him being a great rapper are justified, it's just that he's not really a consistent rapper...or perhaps he was a one album wonder.

I don't think Nas is overrated. He has a lot of wicked songs, especially lately. I'd say Jay-Z and Kanye West are. I don't like any of their material. I can't get into them.

again people have different metrics but i think a lot comes down to consistency...im a huge wu head but after the W group efforts took a hit, 8 diagram, stuff like Wu chamber and OB4CL2 had some highlights but they're admittedly less frequent.

you can have artists who're known for quality but dont really have many albums people consider classics (Luda, Busta etc) just like you can have artists drop an absolute classic then never really do another great album again, i think

i think it's definitely possible, he still gets GOAT talk despite half his catalog not being great, because his highs are so high

Life After Death wasn't consistent, the fuck?

I mean Wu's my favorite group of all time. I think GZA's Liquid Sword's is the best rap album of all time when it comes down to it, or at least in my top two. But as you said, their quality isn't consistent, and there's groups like Jedi Mind Tricks who have several really amazing albums, but none of which really are better than Chambers. Same for Company Flow's Funcrusher Plus. It's an amazing album, but it's pretty much the only huge thing they did.

Life After Death wasn't consistent, the fuck?

I think it is. It's not as good as Ready to Die, but it's still great.
don't even reply cause i don't want to get in a yes it was, no it wasn't opinion chicken match

Jay-Z definitely is. Kanye's not that great a lyricist but he's made so many hits with consistency he earns the respect. And Illmatic is legit despite anything else Nas has done.
