Don't worry Mitt. You're in good hands.

Bush lost the popular vote.

Not in 2004. If the error had been in 2000 then they could argue it was an exceptional case, but the rule failed in 2004, period. Still, 17/18 is better than many predictive models, even though this is just a bit of fun. :)

Edit: Since you edited, I'll elaborate. Bush having lost the popular vote in 2000 does not explain the 2004 result. The attempted explanation was that the party who won the last popular vote would win the next election. However, if you're going to change the terms, you need to be consistent about it. So if you want to explain 2004, then the theory fails to explain Gore's popular vote victory in 2000. It's just sloppy to try to mix the popular vote and the electoral vote. And now I have proven that I have no sense of humor when it comes to my major. :p

The incumbent winner of the popular vote was the dems. Redskins lost, dems lost.

But yea I don't take it too seriously, though if the Redskins win I'm declaring mitt's campaign dead.

Well, see my elaboration that I edited in for why the retcon doesn't make a lot of sense. ;)

Again though, 17/18 is a very strong track record for a model based on coincidence and it doesn't need any logical contortions to still be an entertaining piece of trivia.

Think the Giants win in Baseball means an Obama victory to the theory in that sport. Plus 7-Eleven!

Obama's actually won every theory so far.

Giants winning means candidate who wins that state wins election - aka Obama.
Alabama beating LSU means Democrat wins - aka Obama.

If Redskins win, Obama gets the triple!

Welp it's 21-6 with only 6 minutes left in the game so it looks like it's all over for Obama. Shame really to see our nations entire future be decided by sports superstitions, but it is what it is. Let me be the first to congratulate President Romney on the Panthers hard fought victory.

I don't really have a dog in this political fight, but the butthurt tears on GAF and elsewhere would be glorious if Obama loses. And looking at some of the polls and how he's handled Hurricane Sandy and the Libya situation it's looking like a real possibility right now.

What do you mean how he's handled hurricane sandy?

Obama has hugely positive polling on Sandy and no one cares about Libya so I have no idea why you'd say that. The only reason Obama could lose is the economy, same as it's always been.
