I guess, I just didn't want to go ahead and generalize without knowing most other dialects.

Oh, and we used to have the letter CH between the C and D in our alphabet, but it disappeared for some reason (hint: it was two letters). That makes me wonder why we still have the LL stuck in there, though.

Another thing I found amusing during primary and high school was how we'd always learn verbs using the traditional pronouns, "yo, tu, él, nosotros, vosotros, ellos", when we traditionally use "yo, vos, él, nosotros, ustedes, ellos".

When using formal language, we mostly replace "vos" for "usted", or use "vos" as in "vuestra/o"; the plural form, meanwhile, stays as "ustedes".

My hypothesis (In English for all GAF to understand):

As you know, changing arcade kits is quite expensive, unless they are modular (like CPS 1-2, or NeoGeo MVS cartridges.)
The NeoGeo MVS systems were a good investment for Latin America arcade owners, because changing games was quite cheaper (just buy a new cartridge), and the arcade board itself was also cheaper in comparison to other boards (That's why Street Fighter 3 took ages to appear on our arcades)
So, you have a lot of NeoGeo MVS'es everywhere, and their cartridges were really easy to get (also, most of Neo Geo games are translated to Spanish -really crappy translations, btw-, in comparison to other arcade games).

It isn't a lisp. IIRC that was the original accent and Latin Americans lost it (and now pronounce z, s, ce-, ci- the same). Or the Spaniards that populated Latin America were from a region in Spain that didn't have that distinction.

That said, the existence of Bigfoot makes more sense than the King's legend. Why would a logical distinction between separate letters be produced accidentally by a man with a lisp, instead of deliberate effort? Why wouldn't the lisp cover the 'S' as well?

Y no, no creo que los países quieran súbitamente abandonar términos que les han tomado décadas perfeccionar. La clave está en la lectura. Un mexicano como Carlos Fuentes se expresaba mejor que un albañil (obrero) español.

Pero entiendo tu punto, ayudaría a mejorar la comunicación, y por ende, las relaciones entre los países.

Colombia: maíz pira
Ecuador: canguil, o candil? Ya se me olvidó.
México: palomitas.
Bolivia: pipoca.
Argentina: pochoclo, o algo así.

No tiene el más mínimo sentido.

Estoy en el cuarto curso de Ingeniería Informática. Soy de los del plan antiguo, así que entre lo difícil que es la carrera de por sí y que gracias a Bolonia si suspendes una asignatura no hay clase, me paso demasiado tiempo estudiando y estoy bastante amargado :/

Precisamente quería preguntar esto al resto de españoles más adelante... ¿Qué tal estáis, teniendo en cuenta la crisis? ¿Estamos todos viviendo ya bajo un puente como más de uno se pensará leyendo la prensa internacional?

Yo espero poder irme en cuanto termine la carrera a algún país angloparlante... Si encuentro algo aquí seguro que será con peores condiciones que fuera, y la verdad es que nunca he sido muy fan de España (the grass is always greener on the other side, I guess, ¡queda mucho mejor decirlo en inglés!)
