ah yes, our country, a noble nation built on the backs of hardworking white males, toiling for hours in the fields as their black owners sipped on lemonade and gossiped about the county fair

this accurate picture of history brought to you by

My brother (he's 35) basically parrots everything our father says about politics (i.e. whatever Fox News and Limbaugh tell them to think), mainly because he's largely uneducated and too ignorant to think on his own. He's also never held a steady job for more than a few months and lives off my parents' largesse (they have money). These were his reactions:

R I P America !!

Costa Rica is sounding pretty good right now !

I will never forget the day the country ended the day after my birthday ! Impeach the BASTARD !

I will NEVER vote again !! Thanks alot mitt you twitt !!

This COUNTRY IS OVER !! The MARXIST got back in !!

I see alot of MORONS here in Mo voting for the two lying , stealing democrats i hope these people get what they deserve !!

Man people really think the world is over. It's ridiculous. Your day to day life isn't going to change one bit. Well whatever, if they want that ulcer they can have it.

Look at the first response. What an ass.

I'm shocked Wade Phillips is an Obama supporter!

Your family lives in Missouri?

He's welcome to come to Costa Rica, you know, with our fully free socialist healthcare system.

This got posted on mine

I quickly jumped in and pointed out that actually those people working in the rural fields were fucking black slaves.

Also, ask him where the majority of money is made in America now? and which states pay the most tax? and which ones receive the most? (answers: cities, blue, red)

Here you go:

"At this point I hope the world does end on 12-12-12. It would be best for everyone, and this country. #TheTruthHurts."

I'm hearing many Christians talk about having Peace and that God is Sovereign. I have peace in my life in Christ, and God is in control however that does not mean that I should not be in anguish over my country's turning away. That Does not mean I put on a happy face and pretend its all right. That does not mean that the Almighty Sovereign God has not decreed Judgement on my country and my children's. Achan was Judged and Israel loses an entire battle. Not for the slaughter of innocent children, Not for voting God out of their camp, not for ignoring the pleas of ones who cannot protect themselves, but for taking a mantle for his home. That means that many Israelites who did exactly what God said paid for his sin with their lives and their children's. There is only one answer for when judgement has been decreed. Its in Jonah chapter 3. I am awake.

This was just after news networks called the election for Obama:

A Facebook friend said:
I'm gonna say this and get off here till...I don't really know when.

We were a great experiment, but we threw it all away. We kept an antiquated system that nobody else in the world uses, and now it's lead to our end. We are the ONLY nation in the world where two people are in a race and the person that wins the most votes, loses. That absurdity has put us in a place where we have a man who believes himself to be emperor, fond of ruling by decree, with a completely illegitimate victory.

Very, very bad things are coming. You have millions, -millions- of people in absolute desperation who had a little hope that come tomorrow, businesses and companies would start investing and hiring again. That's gone now. People are looking at losing everything. Desperate people do incredibly stupid things. Desperate companies close up shop in countries that are unfriendly to them. Due to Obamacare, they're already dramatically cutting the hours of low-paying jobs (but, of course, the Dems are all for supporting the poor) since anyone who works 30 or more now has to get benefits. Those people hoped they'd get their hours back after the first of the year. Now? How are they going to feed themselves? Losing 10 hours a week is catastrophic. But of course, the liberals will just blame the greedy business people.

Prepare for poverty. Prepare for chaos and likely violence. Prepare for a polarization that, if we're VERY lucky, won't lead to outbreaks of sectarian violence. You think we were divided before? You haven't seen ANYTHING yet. I fully believe we're looking at complete economic collapse. With it comes societal collapse, of course, we're a capitalist nation.

Enough of you decided you wanted things to stay the way they are, so here we go.

As for me, I dunno. I'm done. I feel like God has completely abandoned us and I don't know why. Part of me still believes this is somehow His will, but I can't even -remotely- see how watching my nation and my life get completely disassembled just as it's coming back together is His will.

So I'm out of here. I don't know that any of this holds any value to me anymore. Just waiting on it all to blow up anyway. I think I'll just play my little video games, do my job (while it lasts), and just watch it all go by, because it's clear that people like me can't change a thing anyway..

then a few hours later, on realizing Obama probably won the popular vote too:

A Friend on Facebook said:
Learned my lesson. If 50% of the people in this miserable excuse for a country actually look around and say hell yeah, give me four more years of THIS, then we're just completely screwed. There's absolutely no hope for fundamental change. We'd never have a consensus enough to get any change, because even if ALL the GOP fans suddenly decided to go towards a real, viable 3rd party, we STILL wouldn't gain any ground.

I'm a changed man. I've had my 'come to Jesus' moment. I'm done. I'm officially intolerant and not interested in sharing my political views with anyone. If your FB is primarily politics of -either- flavor, I'm cutting you, because I just don't care. None of it matters, nothing is ever going to change, so why bother? If I do voice something here, don't expect it to be nice or subtle, because I just don't give two damns about trying to win you over to my way of thinking. My days of debating are -OVER-.

So if it offends you if I reveal that my opinion of your brainpower is -nil-, tough shit. Don't care. Don't wanna hear it, go put that crap on your own Facebook. I won't be reading it OR commenting on it over there. You're not going to listen to me anyway, you're not going to change your mind, you're not going to even entertain for a HEARTBEAT that you might be off in the weeds, so go play your pee-pee games in your own yard. I'm not interested, and I'm not going to be doing it over here.

"If you won't change your opinion to the same as mine you are obviously a close minded idiot. So I'm not going to even listen to what you say ever again." is the jist of that last part. love that bit.

LOL, my dad told me in absolute seriousness he was investigating moving to Australia if Obama won, as Marxism would be destroying American shortly thereafter. Thankfully he couldn't see my facepalm over the phone.

Oh :( Well I'm still here, though I live only a short drive out of Kansas City so culture is not that far!

Did your brother vote for Akin?

I grew up in the St Louis area, and went to Mizzou. And yes, my brother is a big Akin supporter, needless to say.

I think this is my favorite so far.

From my cousin via facebook: "Every college student that voted for Obama should have to give one point of their GPA to a less fortunate college student.. That's fair right?" which got 54 likes and one:

"That's right ------. Someday some of these college students may become business owners or leaders and have for work harder so that others can stay home and watch tv, and wonder where their "check is". I'm sorry for all the younger people in our country that are going to pick up someone else's tab."

I don't feel like looking them all up but some paraphrasings

-America is going to become a third world country

-So glad our country is rewarding unsuccessful hippy voters

-Obama is president and weed is legal in colorado. That means more debt and lower test scored

-A link about left wing voter fraud.

-Crying, why america?

-Hello, communism. (people are calling him out on that one)

-Obama supporters can rest easy knowing they don't have to go out and look for jobs tomorrow. Enjoy my tax money.

-I hope your parents have nice basements, another 4 years of tearing down america.

Two very conservative coworkers "called in sick" and I was going to take my mom out to lunch today but now she's not "feeling well." Salt flying around everywhere.

Holy crap some of these posts are straight up terrifying, people actually hold these opinions?

Kinda funny, because here in the UK all my friends that have made any comment on the election have ALL been positive and celebratory for Obama's win.

I'm still trying to figure out why so many of my staunchly republican friends were predicting Romney by a landslide. when was that ever a remote possibility? were Fox news pushing that?

Media brainwashing at its best. Thankfully its not like that all over the world, shit is fucking scary.

Sort of like how a cat purrs heavily before it passes (I'm told). Perhaps it's the power of positive thinking. Or lack thereof.

I took the day to stay away from conservative bitter coworkers. I was like Obama's gonna win on Monday so I told my boss I would be off Wednesday and here I am.

I hate my family......

(yes that reply had a reference to the holocaust in it.....its too depressing to expand.)

It's OK. I spoke to my (very disappointed) Mother this morning. "How could the US do this, how can you vote the way you do, Obamacare is terrible, I'll pay more taxes and lose my home, the entitled 47% did this...." You know the drill.

It went on and on. So then I reminded her that my wife is a teacher, and is in a union. And that I don't mind paying more taxes (not in the upper class, for the record). And that the 47% was in states that voted Romney.

She had to go, then. It's best to not talk with family, even when they bring it up.

The amount of people that are still having a freak-out over "The Electoral College is rigged!!! Popular vote should decide it!!!!!!" on Facebook (at least for some of my friends) is kind of mind boggling. : /

How many of these people filpping out make over $250,000 a year?

the person I quoted definitely is not. he has spent most of the last four years fighting to find work and struggling to pay health care. he now has a job.

he is however extremely religious. I do in a way admire his devotion to the republican cause even when his life situation would directly benefit from what democrats are attempting to do.

So is salt going to be America's biggest export now? Seems like all the crazy republicans are talking about leaving the country.

it's hilarious given that Obama looks to have won the popular vote, and that the last person who won without the popular vote was a republican.
