Holy shit!

I've played this guy at multiple Smash tournaments in the past. He went by the handle Baro or something similar to that at that point in time. The last time I ran into him though was at Seasons Beatings last fall. I'm like 99% certain the game they were playing in that video was Marvel because that's pretty much the only fighter I saw him playing back at SB. I remember fairly well because he borrowed my PS3 controller to play it.

He's kind of annoying but most of the time the dude is fine and can actually be enjoyable to be around. I remember at one Smash tournament some of us played with him and his hacked Wii playing different games, like TMNT Smash Up. But the moment anything happens to set him off, he just becomes a wreck. I want to say it's almost exclusively to when he loses a tournament match or money match, but I remember one time years ago when he flipped his shit at a Brawl tournament. I was up against him in a match and his mom or someone called, I think about picking him up early, and he just started pleading and crying and....yeah. That was the first time I saw it happen, and admittedly he was younger back then, so at the time I just chalked it up to maybe a kid having a shitty day or what have you.

After watching this video it doesn't seem as if he's gotten much better about it, though. :-/

wait what? I honestly don't get it. I'm from europe, there's a difference?

A chasm of a difference

"Nigga" (without the -er) is used as a term of endearment in the black community.....and is understood to be synonymous with "dude" or "man", etc. It's still an obscenity, nonetheless. But depending on who you ask, it's still not an acceptable word for others to use.

"Nigger" is pejorative through and through, used to disparage black people.

Big difference in culture. "Nigger" is used offensively as a way to put down black people. "Nigga" has become a word that blacks transform in a weird way of self empowerment among themselves.

... but it's said the same way...? so i can say nigga all i want but not "nigger"... this is just stupid. I didn't mean anything offensif. I just wrote as is said in the video and as you can find in a dictionary. The word "nigga" doesn't even exist. It's like saying 'yeah' instead of 'yes'. Anyway, not getting into this too much, will get banned for no reason. I'm not racist or anything.. and i seriously don't get any of this..

this was a bit hard to watch, dude seemed out of his element and the cameraman is possibly the most stereotypical tryhard black male i've ever listened. I feel sorry for the dude, i don't think he can help it.

its not for you to "get" look at it as online etiquette, you now know not to utter it unless you mean to offend, lesson learned.

Its wierd. Also pretty much only blacks can use the word "nigga" or else you're deemed racist as well.

Did you bother to actually read the thread and see my posts there? Or did you think you had me with that link: "HA! I will show him how wrong he is!"

I mean, do you want me to start pulling links from the LoL and SCII community and their controversies and just go back and forth with you? Or maybe, just maybe.... realize that there will be a few assholes in every community that ruin it for everybody?

Who's mentioning LoL or Starcraft 2?

I'm saying this is not an isolated incident in which FGC players can come off as not nice people, and that yes people will judge an entire community when enough similar incidents happen.

You're not always going to be deemed "racist" just wrecklessly brave, depending on your history, it gives the impression you don't care and are willing to throw down with anyone who has a problem with you using the word.. i don't personally care if someone not black uses it, i just won't communicate with them, because i don't use the word.

You can't use either, so that should be easy to remember.

When I was in college and getting acquainted with my new roommates, (who were white and who listen to a lot of rap music) they asked me if it was OK to either call me "nigga" or use the word in my presence (can't remember which).

In my mind, I'm going, "Are you fucking serious?" but I just told them no.

But at least they asked, lol

what the hell does 'very ass' mean ?

that's the stupidest gaming terminology i've ever heard.

lol.

At least they didn't say "bad kid" (I despise that term as well, lol)

what is it about fighting games that attracts so many classless thugs?
You have no idea what a thug is then , these are at best tryhard black males trying to appear hardcore doing something that isn't, a "thug" wouldn't be spending any free time in a Fighting game tournament.

If you can't bear to part with it, DONT BET IT. Cash, reputation, or dignity, doesn't matter.

Still one of the best guy loses a fighting game videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJtzA8deLcI

"i play fighting games for the story"

teehee

I thought some guy was going to start crying, or was going to try to beat the crap out of me after beating him at MvC2 at Funland Arcade in Toronto way back when. Guy kept talking to himself about how cheap I was and how he was clearly better. Bwahaha.

I could only stomach a few seconds of that video though. Fighting game community rubs me the wrong way sometimes.

Yeah, I think all of us from the arcade days have these stories of people stroking out after losing to someone (why does it seem it's always Mahvel/Tekken or SF?). Some people can't seem to lose face gracefully but are masters as losing face ugly.

It is accepting and welcome, but we will jump at any opportunity to put you on blast when you lose. It's more tough love than anything. Makes your skin thicker.

I wouldn't say that. I would say people tend to be cocky moreso in the FGC and people go ham if you are cocky and losing.

It really isnt, look at the scathingly elitist response newcomers get on the major fighting game forums. It's certainly better in person, but even then it itsnt particularly welcoming. The fact that you cant see how "jumping at the opportunity to put you on blast when you lose", "tough love" and "gives you a thick skin" dont equate to being accepting and welcoming says it all really

I would feel embarrassed to belong to a scene like that.
How about belonging to an online community who has no problem with blatantly generalizing groups of people they know nothing about, have no experience with, simply in a weak attempt to try to express (shove) their alleged moral superiority onto others? All while having a world perspective that reaches no further than their computer chair?

We have pretty much every variation of race, culture, sex and faiths in this scene. If that isn't an open welcomed community, I don't know what is. Gotta roll with the punches, and when you do, we're family and we got your back. Except Honzogonzo.

There are some bad apples every now and then, but I've seen this community do more good than bad.
