Deadpool was pretty good.
It's hard to make a comedy superhero comic. The older stuff is really hit or miss because so much is really bad. There's a fine line between funny and stupid and unfortunately Deadpool dips into the stupid pool a lot.

It's why most of what I consider actual funny comics are comics that are otherwise interesting with characters I like but that a writer or artist is able to slip humorous touches into. Comics like Deadpool, even when they do manage to be funny on occasion always come off as trying too hard.

I like when comics break the fourth wall on covers, but not in the story. On that note, I miss when covers had word bubbles and weren't generic pinups.

How is dc not promoting the hell out of this book.

Deadpool fans get the hero they deserve. :3

Guess who picked up a nearly complete run of Promethea today?

This guy! :D

I felt old as shit when looking through my stack of comics and looking at some all black comic and I'm like "What the fuck is this?!"

Oh it's the Shadowman I asked to have pulled. :P STUPID BLACK ON BLACK ON BLACK COVERS! >:O

I think I read most of the Xbooks and I give zero fucks about this Cyclops vs Wolverine AvX garbage. I can't wait for this to be done with. if they weren't canceling them all I'd drop even more of them. It does seem like all people talk about though so I guess they got what they wanted.

Hey I tried to get peeps hype for dat rad Domino/Daredevil team up in Adjectiveless. I'm doing my part to avoid the Cyke nonsense!

I still think Cyke's rad now

Well Iron Man #1 was more terrible than I expected. Not only did Greg Land reveal he can't draw/trace Tony Stark's face (pro tip, its the Mandarin that is the asian character) but Gillen then quite surprisingly also reveals he has no new ideas to kick off the story with by massively retreading old ground.

Also, 2 issues to wrap up all of X-Force at this point doesnt really feel like enough :( I'm losing more books than I'm gaining, Marvel. This shouldnt be your goal.

Thanks to the recommendations from this topic, I've built up a decent Dredd collection- Complete Case Files up to Millar and Morrison being as dull as humanly possible, America, the Pit, Brothers of the Blood, Origins... Getting Tour of Duty next (plus Backlash, and Day of Chaos whenever it's collected). Any other forgotten gems in the back catalog?

Awful news about Hellblazer. I have zero interest in PG Constantine. I've been enjoying JLD, but they're completely different characters. Lame.

On Defenders #12 : god damn Fraction fucking did tie everything up. It's a fucking shame it all has to end, and I hate you all for not buying it, because shit was great.

Seriously wonderful. I just wish an audience could have held the book to a better level of art.

So anyone not reading the book, it's your fault.

Shadowman was pretty good.

In terms of craft, Valiant is making some very solid comics with their re-launch. I'm only reading Bloodshot and Shadowman (just like the 90's!), but they're incredibly well drawn. I think there's some Poser stuff being used, but it's not super distracting.

I'm incredibly salty about Ennis ditching The Shadow. He really oversold his commitment to the character in early interviews. Meaning he hinted at exploring things that weren't answered in his six issues, so it's a disappointment in that regard. :(

I'm glad to see that someone else is enjoying the new Valiant stuff. I think they've done a very good job with the relaunch. Hopefully they can maintain the quality.

I'm also very sad to see Hellblazer end. Comic book companies may think of cancellations/relaunches as great starting points for new readers. I think it will be a stopping point for this long-time reader. I have the entire run of Hellblazer as I have been buying it since the first issue. I will buy until the end of the current series but I don't think I'll be picking up the new book.

I think the problem with Iron Man is that you can only do so much with him. I can't say I've read much of the original run, but it really doesn't sound like he's got much of a rogues gallery.

It has taken me way too long to realize that most of the X-books are just one big stupid, soap opera. I've eventually narrowed it down to the Wolverine title and the occasional Deadpool because those are mostly self-contained and separate from the X-Universe of melodramatic nonsense.
Shame on me for falling for the hype, but I had no idea dudes liked soap operas so much.

Claremont's beautiful legacy.

300 is a damn good run for Hellblazer. Not a lot of titles can say that.
Are there no other plans for the character? Or a spin off. Seems like they could have success with an occasional miniseries. It's too good to just disappear.

I'm unsure of whether Iron Man really is going to be in the new GotG, but sending him into space for a bit for a few journeys of discovery as the end of Fraction's run suggested seemed like a far better and new direction than "Extremis Again". Tony getting jiggy with some alien ass could be a years worth of comics all by itself.

It's a relaunch. They are canceling the Vertigo series and starting over at #1 with a new creative team as part of the New 52.

I don't understand why DC has this policy where the character can't exist in Vertigo and DC at the same time like it used to be in the 90s. Although I do know they have been trying to scale Vertigo down to just a "creator owned" line for some time.

Archer and Armstrong is one of the dopest things this year of dope stuff has brought. Turns out Fred Van Lante is good at writing comics. WHO KNEW (i did kind of)

I love magneto's helmet. It is a sleeker and meaner looking version of his old helmet. It works for what uncanny X-men is shaping up to be.

Also, I didn't like deadpool 1. I didn't think it was very funny.

We barely recovered from the loss of Fraction's Defenders, so what better time to announce THE FEARLESS DEFENDERS, by Bunn and Sliney? (any other time) (I guess maybe Birdie will be psyched since he's the only guy here who liked Fear Itself)

Couldn't be less interested in any other pairing of characters and Bunn sucks. Marvel is SO DAMN BAD at making me care about comics with chicks. Normally stick any number of females on the cover and give a book an artist that is at minimum familiar with the concept of a breast and I'm on board, yet Marvel still manages to fuck it up.

lamestream.

TTOB alt?

Also, Iron Man was ass. Not only does Land's artwork still suck all the energy out of the story(flat, stiff, ugly character design, unimaginative panel layouts with sparse world detail, complete inability to draw action with any kind of intensity, weight, or kinetic sense of movement), but Gillen hasn't brought anything new to the table to counterbalance it. Tony Stark nightmares coming true, Iron Man tech gets in the wrong hands, wants to sleep with bimbos, frets with Pepper; I'm pretty sure Fraction did this EXACT opening story, but with more wit, verve, and a somewhat better artist in Larroca. At least Larroca could do some fun action scenes with the Iron Man outfit, Land's dry artwork and Gillen's monologue sucked all the energy out of the action scene here.

Not a very good comic.

The best part of Iron Man was how Tony shaved his goatee to be incognito. He claimed it was because he had a recognizable mustache but we know it's because Land's faces all look identical.

Amazing. Bachalo, new costumes, extremist X-Men... February can't come soon enough.

Misty Knight = will check out. Bunn's Fear Itself: Defenders mini was actually kind of great. I hope he brings back Loa.

I assume the blonde on the left is Magic and not Emma. Who is the girl in the top left corner? Jubilee? This could be an interesting concept for an X-team if they are not handled like mustache twirling villains or ultra fundamentalist mutant terrorists. Could go either way with Bendis.

Also, I loved the last page of Consequences. Gillen is SO GOOD AT X-MEN LAST PAGES.

Kinda dug the artist too! Really weird style but I liked it.
