I wouldn't be surprised if they announced the Full Boost home release right after, but still no word on that coming any time soon. But yeah yeah, top arcade fighting game in Japan of 2011, etc. etc.

Gameplay Tutorials

For those of you who haven't played a Gundam VS game before and are new to the mechanics, here are some English tutorials by Brett to help ease your way in. :)

As a gundam fan, I am interested. Played the original gundam vs gundam alot, but haven't done much with gundam since the launch of AGE. Only been keeping up with Unicorn and collecting hcm pros.

I would be more inclined to buy it if they released this stateside but I don't see that happening. I usually don't pay above $40 with my games (with the exception of starhawk).

There is an excuse. This version doesn't have Spiegel! No sale buddy, still waiting on that Full Boost home release. I'll gladly jump in when that happens.

didn't everyone on gaf quit though?

Quite the opposite actually; about 90% of the gaf people that started at the beginning of the year are actually still playing even to this day. Combine that with how there are still NA/EU players online and well... there are still people to play in this.

Seriously, the game was totally worth it at its original price, this is a steal.

GET THIS GAME

I kinda dropped due to lack of time and extremely laggy connection :(

Everyone else is still rocking though!

Actually, I already held off long enough with the PS3 port. I was hoping a vita port would be announced but from the look of things (as in support in japan) I doubt that was going to happen.

A shame, since the Omni VS Zaft+, GvsG (especially), and Next+ all ran great on the PSP.

Huh I think I've played some form of the arcade version of this back in toronto a few years back, had no idea there was a console version. Is there any english menus? Or do you have to understand japanese to play this?

It's really easy to navigate as the main menu is in English and everything else has been translated in some form or fashion. I don't know Japanese and have at least > 500 hours on the game. :S

Yes, I shall return when Haman is given the proper buffs she deserves!

Quick, Haman just got buffed to SS tier in EXVS, so come back and play!

How do you check how many hours you have on the game?

I'm... scared to check at this point.

What the nani? Yes Ill jump on this. How does it work I haven't gotten a ps3 jp game yet. Can you play online?

Interesting, I think I'll be picking this up then :D Do I need to setup a japanese PSN account to play?

Though we already talked quite a bit about this in other threads, I'd like to empathize for people stumbling on this topic how there's absolutely no need to be a Gundam nerd for competitive players to play/like/love this game (though it obviously help).

This is a highly competitive 2 on 2 arena game, and if I'm not mistaken it's current version (same this game with rebalance and new characters, a Super version if you will) is still the most played game in Japanese arcades, way above well-known titles like SSFIVAE or TTT2. It's not (just) Gundam being popular, trust me.

I'm... scared to check at this point.

There's a small clock at the top of the main menu, but it resets every time it hits 100 hours.

No prob for online, but as most "random" players are Japanese and won't play with "red" connections, you pretty much to play with us or another western community to get an enjoyable experience with the online.

Well, there's a timer on the right of the top main menu title on the menu screen.

It's in-game time and counts to 100 hours before it resets. I've seen it flip at least 5 times. :S

Yup you can play online with your normal PSN account. Doesn't matter what region. :)

Best releases are $50? Damn Japan.

The game was basically $100 day 1. :S

I might even buy it again.

Darn you other Fundam guys and your funky time zones. I'll play if I catch you on! My disc is actually in my system right now.

What can you do offline wise is there a story? Or is it just like a fighting game

Time to repost OT pics! :D

Arcade Mode
  • Play through multiple routes in either single or multiplayer.
  • Battle Extreme Gundam against its multiple forms: Carnage (Long Range), Tachyon (Melee), and Ignith (Funnels).
  • CPU enemies will have a lower cost against their team gauge.

Trial Mission Mode
  • Play through levels with multiple missions based on various Gundam battles throughout the series' 30 year history.
  • Fight unique trials such as huge bosses and waves of enemies.
  • Receive MP from completed missions and level up your mobile suits!
  • Receive emblems to show off during online play!

Video: Trial Mode Demonstration - Crossbone Gundam X-1 Full Cloth

Basically, if you're a completionist, there's a fuck ton of stuff to do. 30-40 some odd hours for mission mode itself, probably more.

There's a mission mode. It takes the core gameplay and recreate scenes from the anime or do silly shit. It's pretty fun and can be challenging. Pretty long too.

edit > Beaten like a foreigner trying his luck in a Japanese arcade.

I still don't think we'll hear about Full Boost PS3 until TGS 2013, and then a Winter 2013 release. Bandai typically has one "big" Gundam game announced at at time, and right now it's Gundam Breaker.

But this is the old one :-/

Unfortunately, Namco doesn't care for the home console market, so a port of "Full Boost" will probably take some more time, and when it'll come out it will likely be right before a new arcade release, as always with the Gundam VS series.

They make their bread and butter in arcades, taking a percentage from every credit and proposing an optional subscription (315 yens/month) that a LOT of players pay for. They wouldn't do anything that gets in the way of the arcade version supremacy, and went as far as taking out the absolutely indispensable LAN feature out of the final game, despite showing it at TGS 2011.
