Krishna: A Journey Within TP

By: Abhishek Singh

Price:$29.99 Diamond ID:OCT120476 On Sale:December 05, 2012

A searing, human portrayal of Krishna, the god of all gods awaits you in A JOURNEY WITHIN. Journey along through his pastimes that have swayed the ages. The final confrontation between the fire of man's consuming greed to conquer all, and the supreme power of the Divine Spirit.

Blackacre sounds like it will be right up my alley:

Born out of the extremes of economic inequality and the collapse of a civilization, the dystopian world of the Image Comics series BLACKACRE, starting in December, is one where the elite live in gleaming high-rises, while outside the walls of their city, others struggle for survival and freedom.

BlackAcre is a community built on privilege and power, topics of conversation in our political climate, but writer Duffy Boudreau explained that our concerns are only a starting point. "The story is definitely inspired by current events, but those are just foundation," he said. "In the world of BlackAcre, our politics are a thing of the past. Most characters in this new world wouldn’t have the slightest idea about any of that."

Auxiliary Captain Hull doesn't know about the machinations of power in the walled community of BlackAcre, either. When he's recruited for a rescue mission, he doesn't hesitate to accept, having been raised in military service with utmost loyalty to his brothers-at-arms. But as Hull ventures into the Hinterlands outside of the walls, he will discover the treachery behind the trust placed in him.

The stripping away of society as we know it allowed Boudreau to examine how people act from a new perspective, he said. "I’ve always been fascinated with dystopian stories because they give us a look at human nature through a completely different lens — whether it’s a society taken to its extreme or a landscape where the trappings of the civilized world have fallen away. These two types of worlds coexist in BlackAcre, and Hull’s journey from one to the other is the spark that sets everything in motion."

Artist on BLACKACRE, Wendell Cavalcanti, said the series gives him the opportunity to apply his skill to genres that have always attracted him. "I love sci-fi, dystopian future, war, and spy films, with all those diabolical characters and their sordid plans. And BlackAcre is a mix of all that," he said.

I Love Trouble could be interesting too, just based off the nifty promo image.

Hello comic-books GAF

I´m looking for fantasy comics recommendations, I like stuff like Conan, Red Sonja, Kull, Artesia and Thorgal.
Any recommendations GAF?

Thanks!

It reminds me of Cold Heart Canyon in a way. Yes there's sexual content, but there's nothing titillating about it for me.
The story is bizarre and I'd rather indulge my sickness reading weird, and boundary pushing, books like this than slowing down to look at a car accident. :P
I've only seen the cover of Black Kiss, but was told there's frequent nudity and big dick. This surprised me considering this is an Image title. It sounds like something Avatar would go for since they seem to be the boundary pushing publisher.

There's so much Conan and Red Sonja stuff. Dynamite had Savage Tales a couple years ago if you can find it. It was an anthology title that had a Red Sonja story. I saw a Highlander mini from Dynamite as well.
I kinda like what IDW is doing with Dungeons and Dragons. It's not as edgy and brutal as Conan, but what is? It's still some good action fantasy fun.

Yea I don't really know anything about Dungeons and Dragons besides from playing those dungeon crawler games (and that cartoon that came on when I was a kid) but I was liking the comic enough.

Need your help GAF!
So I want to review some TPBs of series I like but the problem is...my writing skills have greatly deteriorated over time, so I don't feel like I can write a review right. Furthermore, I want to write a review but not spoil a lot about a book's story.
So simply put, what are some good comic book reviews that I can read to get a general idea of the structure on how I should go about writing my review?

Orc Stain counts as fantasy but has lots of blood and gore that may not appeal to everyone.
Do check out IDW's Dungeons and Dragons though-

It's amazing, fun and friggin' hilarious.

They have a couple different review formats depending on who is reviewing.

Tellos is a bit more light hearted, but it was a fun romp.

Going "darker" would be Full Cirkle and Slaine the Horned God.

It's too well drawn to be an Avatar book. :X

This is such an awkward interview. I can't imagine what it would be like for either the interviewer or the interviewees in this thing. I just have this image of these people staring blankly at each other, then the interviewer launching all these half-thought questions and the other two just being all "Really? We have to put up with this today? Think if we're really blunt she'll go away?"

Orc Stain & IDW's D&D are both awesome. They don't come out often but when they do, it's instant 10/10.

Just finished Uncanny X-Force Deathlok Nation, the cliffhanger was kind of ruined by Wolverine and the X-Men.

I really enjoy the characterization of Deadpool so far, Remender put alot of dry humor with him. I don't really get Fantomex, haven't read Morrison New X-Men. The Psylocke/Angel is interesting but not as much as the other characters. Wolverine hasn't developed much. Also Deathlok seems like a great addition to the team.

Onto the Dark Angel Saga.

If you like IDW D&D, then Dynamite's Pathfinder is right up your alley. Three issues out so far and I love it. All the banter, plus awesome atmosphere.

Oooh will look into that series, thanks!

Smallville was great this week, the stunt the Batmobile pulled off was brilliant. Bryan Q. Miller continues to deliver.

Also I miss Secret Six all of a sudden =(

So jealous - you get to read Remender's UXF and Morrison's NXM for the first time.

On it! Does it come out regularly unlike D&D? I could use another solid monthly release.

Comixology have an 'Adventure Time' sale on-going but I can't access it from either the app or website. No 'Adventure Time' issues appear via the search function either. I've sent technical support an email but am I the only one who can't access this sale?

You bum! Go out, get art, then send it to me! :D

haw!

I wanted to, but that's money I need to divert to getting credit card monkeys off my back. Once that is resolved I can be one step closer to ditching my wage slave job, union, benefits, and other perks that neogaf register jockeys would kill to have.

Oh, I'm sorry - that implies they'd be willing to put in the work for the achievement because no employer sees the worth in their underwater basket weaving master's degree. :P

Bagged and boarded the past few months floppies and I'm going to stick the Avengers Blurry disk in to see if it's any more entertaining on a second go, or if it's just as bad the second time around like Thor. :X

Nrama: Then since we're talking speculation, that leads to the obvious question, and we’re going to ask it outright — a Sandman/Death/the Endless New 52/DCU title seems like an obvious sales opportunity. You guys already started flirting with it a couple years back. After Gaiman’s upcoming last Sandman hurrah at Vertigo, are we going to see those characters back in the DCU? Would they work in the DCU?

Cunningham: That's a bizarrely speculative question. I don't really understand it.

You could ask that about anything. "Would a book about a mature Daffy Duck work in the DCU?" I don't know.

Haha, that's brilliant.

They're slow close to responding to questions with "are you seriously wasting our time with this?"

Bleeding Cool says they got a look at an advance copy of All-New X-Men #1... SPOILER ALERT:
the preview Marvel's been running for weeks comes at THE VERY END of the first issue; everything before deals with the present and recaps events re: Xavier and Scott (yes, again!) that lead to Beast's decision to do the time warp. They're predicting a lot of readers will be disappointed in a "that's it?" manner, and wonder why Marvel would spoil the ending and kill its impact that way.

Lowered expectations... at least it double-ships. :|

I'm looking for the name of this superhero comics, which kinda portrayed them as egoistical dickwads with their own personal problems. I remember seeing some a page or two, with a guy proposing to his girlfriend - only to have her be torn to shreds as a super hero and super villain come flying through.

Boys....or The Boys.
