during my research i read the vita can't read PDFs nor do flash, but that might have changed... I don't quite have a vita yet to test.

It's tolerable. The slowdown only happens on spells, so if you don't use spells
and really, you shouldn't be since Ninja/Mathmatician/Geomancer... are better than spell slingers
But really, there's no excuse not to mod your system (if you want) and get the patch because the patch fixes it completely.

Didn't they realize they were making a handheld racer? This trash is the opposite of pick up and play, from the UI to the load times to the depressing campaign mode.

How does near work on wifi only nowadays? I used to get game goods from my friends, but since a month or so I've not gotten anything at all through it, even though my friends play some of the same games.
I'm on wifi only so I never get any hits through proximity. That and i'm living in a quite low populated area, so I'd guess i'd never get any hits with the 3G version anyways. (Never gotten a streetpass hit on my 3DS for example)

My main (and a lot of fan complaints, some quite madly angry) were about the lack of "racebox" (easy custom race selection), which they've had in most recent wipeout games. Game is still great though. Just takes more tapping to re-play what you want...if it isn't a speedlap :/

I don't get what you're complaining about. If you want to jump into a race, do Multiplayer Campaign. Of course, you may run into the eliminator mode there...
If anything, the campaign selection scrolling to the bottom right to where you have to scroll up/left to get where you want for the next race/campaign selection is the bad part of the the game.

Yeah interface is a bit fiddly/takes a while to get used to - especially with the dlc.

Yes, the interface is bad. Coming from HD/Fury to this is really bad. The lack of Racebox to where you can just play Zone mode is as bad as well but the game isn't awful.
The one thing that pisses me off is the Eliminator mode flipping. On HD it's R1 (or R2) depending on your set-up. Since there's no L/R2 here you have to use the right stick if you're using the traditional/"Wipeout" configuaration. WTF. They couldn't have made Eliminator reversal on Triangle? I know that's where the camera change goes but the least they could do is give custom button config and/or moving the change camera button to select like most racers do on PS3. Having thrust/flip above/below each other would be so nice since they'd be near the fire/absorb button.
