While I'm not one to generally search for validation of my opinions, it is nice to see so many people getting Vitas and realizing it's an amazing piece of hardware that really should be doing better on the market. Many of us early Vita adopters have been singing it's praises since we got our hands on ours, and it really is cool to see more people finally getting some time with the console, and seeing what it's really about.
I have no doubt that it will find its place, but it's disconcerting to constantly see it dismissed in terms of content. It already has an impressive library, with more titles to come. So many people are unaware of the software in the pipeline for this thing. The pricing appears to be one of the biggest factors keeping people away, though, and I imagine that Sony is looking at the sales of these kinds of holiday deals very closely. I also have no doubt that we'll be seeing a $199 Vita by the close of 2013.
Marketing can only do so much when you have a $250-$300 price tag on your system. Once that price officially comes down, I expect it to do much better, coupled with all of the new software releasing in 2013.
Speaking of software, I just want an inFAMOUS game on the Vita. I'd even take a port of inFAMOUS 1 and 2, if not an original game, with a new character and set of powers, kind of like Assassin's Creed: Liberation. It's not tied to Cole's story, but it is in the inFAMOUS universe.
